Slated for release in Japan for 2009. US bound to get it sometime later.
I always liked playing Gold, as it was the last game I played before Pearl. Fond memories of the game.
The Japanese releases will be under the titles of "Heart Gold" and "Soul Silver".

I know what I'm getting!

It seems almost pointless, since almost all existing Pokemon are available via Diamond and Pearl. There's no real need to go back.

Having said that... it doesn't matter. Logic will not hold sway. I know I'll buy it. I'm an easy mark, and Nintendo knows they can perform a wallet-ectomy every time they pump these things out.

I think it's because you need a whole lot of dunderfucking to get some of them (Colosseum/Gale of Darkness for starters/most legendaries, Gen 3 for other Legendaries, and Celebi from NOWHERE). Maybe with HG/SS we'll see some Celebi events pop up after.

I'm just an older Pokemon fan. I loved it when it was 151 and I loved it when it was 251, but after that I stopped play and got far behind. So it may just be me but I can't play anything past Silver/Gold or remakes of the previous ones (i.e. Fire Red/Leaf Green.)

I'll be playing silver probably, thats the one I own and I always liked Lugia better than Ho-oh. Plus G/S was awesome due to 16 gyms and the final showdown with Ash.

Indeed, although I'm hearing from many people that they hope the Kanto area will be more than just a wall necessary to pass in order to fight Red (fuck that Ash shit, bro). I mean, hell, Viridian Forest was reduced to mere shrubs, and the whole of Safari Zone was removed. Sure, Safari Zone was justified via the story, but I always felt the only reason they did that was because of memory limits.
Man, I can't wait to see what new areas they'll put in though. I know it'll amount to a Sevii Island-esque area, but a challenge is a challenge.
Gotta prep up my Platinum mons for transfer too.

There are several that are becoming very scarce because you can only get them in the GameCube games, and doubly so with the new DSi you can't even use the Pal Park anymore in Gen 4.

The DSi is the biggest catalyst for a gen 2 revisit.

I thought this too, save Ho-Oh, Lugia, and Celebi.

Weeeeee! Gold and Silver actually *needed* remakes; those two games made me stop playing Pokemon. The grammatical errors rampant in it made me feel that it was rushed out the door in the US.

"You found BERRY!" Gimme a break :|

IMO Gold and Silver were the best in the series, despite the grammar errors, so this news makes me happy. Almost happy enough to actually pick up and play Pokemon again.

Sorry, but my faith in the pokémon franchise wasn't renewed until I picked up Diamond. To each his own though!

Nintendo just knows how to get money out of Tristam and me. XD We're easy marks like Hali.

/sigh, we really are :s

Shameless plug for the QCDN Pokéfan Network Social Group!!!

Come back to the dark side... Platinum is a great chapter of the franchise.

All right then I'll give Platinum a shot. I might get Diamond and Pearl as well while I'm at it because, as when I had older games, I bought all versions available to get as many Pokemon as possible.

Buying Diamond/Pearl is probably unnecessary (unless you just really want to buy them). The trading thread in QCDN's Pokemon group can provide you with most of the missing ones.

The problem I have with Pokemon is like it's pinpoint targeted at compulsive collectors to get them to spend ridiculous amounts to buy every version of the game. I liked the original concept but all it is now is a money cow for Nintendo and they keep grinding out the same formula of "exact same game - different pokemon" as often as they can to keep the same core buying. I'm glad I lost interest after beating the original red version and fiddling around with the N64 stadium game.

Also considering the storyline of Platinum is basically an expanded version of DP, you might actually get bored playing through the same game twice. Just get PL and be happeh.

Except that, especially recently with the ability to trade online, there's not much need to purchase every version. Or hell, it's not even that hard to find others that play in some situations. There's a large group of people at my college that play.
