Fire i mean you are just contradicting yourself in that last comment...
You didnt get better at Uncharted... Yet... You took more time, thought over a better route and so on... Sounds like your skill improved to me bud.
It's sort of hard to say one way or another, when games are diced up into battles, you get to one, play through, get to the next one... if you die, you keep trying on that same one. Now some sections you breeze through, others you got to replay til you win.
It's kind of like... you are playing a game where there's a trap door... you run out and fall in the trap. You reload, run back and move around the trap door. I think most of us will agree, that person didn't get any better. That second trap door is still going to get him, and he'll just reload and get past that one. It's determination, not skill, and it doesn't say anything bad about him. It's how I get past parts that make me stuck. I take advantage of the fact that the experience will reload itself similarly... and find a way.
And with enemy AI, which will lead to them coming in in different ways often. We can all agree, that leads to someone with enough time to sink in the ability to beat anything. Often the enemies can come in swarms, always trying to flank you, never stopping. But sometimes you'll reload after a few deaths, and the exact same bad guys will come at you head on, one at a time, giving you a moment to rest.
Yes, I get better at a game, but there's a lot else going on as well that would allow me to get past with the exact same skill.
And I guess the point being I don't really care to use achievements to prove I can do anything, while I don't mind doing one that sounds fun for the sake of doing it. I guess I'd say... I'm not really close to any people who'd even give a shit in the first place.
Now I'll say this, if you wanna use achievements to prove skill, it takes VERY SPECIFIC CIRCUMSTANCES.
1. The game has to be hard. Like Ninja Gaiden 2, Pixeljunk Eden, Super Stardust HD. As in, not everyone will be able to beat the medium levels, let alone touch the hards.
2. The game must have JUST come out, Within the first week or so.
You can judge someone's skill level within that week, whatever they're pulling off before the game has been picked apart and documented, and they're overall spread of accomplishments in a set amount of time.
But that can only prove you're good, it can't show someone sucks. That same person might have a lot of work or school that week, or just not really enjoy playing that game and not want to push themselves.
For me, when I beat Pixeljunk Eden's main game, I wanted to keep playing. So I did a few trophies. The trophies made sense in that they were beating the same levels but in a more full sense, so I went for it. To me that added to the game. That's it though. If they were offline, and no one could see them, it would have meant the exact same. I never finished the trophies cause they got frusterating and it turned into not being fun, and it doesn't bother me that someone might look at my trophies and think I'm unable.
When you start to worry others care, I think it becomes bad for you. Not trying to be a dick at all or insulting, just sort of know how that goes. Do things for the pure fun of it, life is really too short to dedicate a chunk of it to something you might regret later. I can say I don't regret playing FFXI, but I regret spending hundreds of hours in FFXI doing shit I didn't find fun so I could get some equipment to impress other people. Those are hours I could have been out meeting people and just living life, instead I was worried if some people on the internet would think poorly of me cause I had a moldavite earring instead of that +7 fucker from AV. I think it's the same thing here.
As for PS3/360 version. I usually go for the PS3 simply cause my 360 disc drive is a lot louder, and I'm more fearful of disc scratches and hardware failure on my 360 side. I'm more used to the PS3 controller since I've been playing on the same setup since PS2. Achievements might sway me 360 if those things weren't more important to me. Don't get me wrong, I'm not too afraid to buy 360 games cause scratches and RROD, I just care about that a lil more than achievements is all.
And to be fair, I had to send in my PS3 cause it kept freezing on GTA4, and I had to send in my Wii cause it had a bad disc drive, and my 360 has never given me any trouble.
