My name is Bryan and I am the new owner of Eosun.org! I plan to do alot of things to try to get this forum active again. We may not be able to get it to were it was in 2005, but I want to damn well try! If you have any questions for me, please ask. I will be happy to answer them! :D

Also, if you have any suggestions, post them here.

Good day to you.
It'll be interesting to see if we can get this semi-active again.

Wow.. okay well I suppose a welcome is in order.. as well as a good luck and thank you !

Well, hello!

I was very confused by the e-mail at first, the last time I was here, I think this was still QCDN. :)

Yea, the url was changed to eosun.org a few years ago, so you haven't been here for awhile. I hope to see you become active again. You still playing FF?

Ah the site still lives. I tried logging on a few weeks back and it kept saying the servers were busy which I thought was odd. Good to know the site is back up and running again.

It's kind of funny how I was trying to check this site like a day or two ago and I couldn't. Then today I get an email about it lol.

I had all but forgotten about this website, the slide it took after XIV came out just seemed inescapable. I don't play XI anymore but the forums were always fun either way, I wish you luck in breathing life back into it.

No more server constantly being "too busy"?

Well, you could consider restoring all the old stuff that Reeve and others blocked off in the past, like the old Flameboard posts and I think a few others that may have gotten lost in the shuffle.

I know at least a few people who might come back around just for the nostalgia of digging through old feuds, lol.

What kind of slide did the site take? Please fill me in on the history of this place if you can?

That's... complicated, lol.

The site has gone through periods of overmoderation that actually, at one point, caused people to make a competing site in retaliation, but that was back in the old days, and most of those folks ultimately came back.

The two big events that impacted readership were the server merger between Quetzalcoatl and Midgard, and the shift from a server-specific FFXI board, to a generalist FFXIV board.

The server merge diluted the importance of QCDN.org, since most of the Midgard folks had no particular interest in using the site, and having half the server not use it meant that it lost a good deal of its significance. Used to be that the site was probably the best way to keep up on what was happening on the server, but that became less the case.

The big change came when the folks in charge decided to try and grab a bigger XIV audience than they should have, to be totally frank. If they'd decided to simply pick a server, encourage all the old Quetzys who were going to give XIV a try to go there, and named the site appropriately, they'd probably have seen greater success than they did effectively trying to compete with FFXIAH and/or the official forums. Too broad an approach yielded inadequate results.

That and the fact that XIV was one of the worst MMO launches of the past decade, of course.

Well, after FFXIV came out the admins wanted to change what made this site work, they changed the name, tried to make it more of a general for all servers board, and removed the most popular board just to make the place seem friendlier. This of course just pushed people away and attracted all of pretty much no one. eosun had nothing to draw a general crowd that other bigger websites had. So members started migrating away. Sure the forums had already been losing people who quit playing, but a great deal of people who quit playing seemed to stay around as well as casual observers. After the change to Eosun, that's when things seemed to degenerate at an accelerated rate.

Note these are all my personal opinions and observations from events that happened years ago and may not be 100%.

Well the "slide" started with the game the site is based on, but I can narrow down to 3 things. 1) People just slowly started losing interest in playing the game, which meant a loss of interest in the site. 2) Then the site itself underwent s period of technical issues where it would be inaccessible for days at a time. 3) A lot of the "active posters" have simply vanished. And by active, I mean both the ones you love (Jender, Sabia, etc) and love to hate (Vang, Meeze, etc).

I recently have started playing the game (11, not 14) again after a 5 year long abscence. I have been pleasantly surprised with all the changes that were implemented and the fact that the "fun" seems to be back in the game. Maybe just spruce things up around here and get a bunch of the current crop of players to get here and start posting!

Also received the email and out of nostalgia decided to check it out. I second Raesvelg's thoughts, and wish you the best Shaggy.

Watashi mo.

When I was here last, I also remember it being QCDN, heh.
