Help me settle a brd disagreement

Hauby still wins out with the attack and accuracy. Osode's only real place for damage dealing is with weapon skills; if you don't have a hauby/shura togi, it's a good piece but it's not the best.

Yah I tend to tp in the Hauby and swap in Osode for WS or tanking. In all honesty though, unless I find myself whiffing an inordinate amount(or I see that the mobs I'm fighting aren't already gauging at low eva/def), I'll often just tp in the Osode as well. As I'm sure you know, optimum setup for DD/DoT isn't always the best route for a solo Bst to take. There's a real fine line between a successful, fast-killing Bst and a dead one :P

I thought agi effected the crit rate of ranged attacks, making dex pointless for rng unless they melee. I'd never heard of an attribute effecting rapid shot before.

It's one of those KillingIfrit statements that I take as a grain of salt, atleast until anyone can confirm it.

Everything I've heard on RNG forums points to AGI = everything, DEX is for melee only.

And I highly doubt there's any stat that affects Rapid Shot rate, since there isn't any stat that affects Fast Cast, or Martial Arts, or any other job trait.

Uhm, soloing doesn't have a parser running, and DoT isn't the largest concern. I have really no accuracy issues at all maining an osode along with axe merits and Beastly earring on VT catoblepas in Bibiki bay. I don't wear an Osode JUST for damage, as I mentioned before, you reap the benefits of all the stats. BST's shouldn't gear up solo like most melees do just to hit the highest numbers possible in a merit party. That being said +10 STR and DEX do improve your melee prowess significantly in a solo situation/duo and you won't see much of a difference between Hauberk and Osode so long as you have no accuracy issues.

Seeing as how Baja mentioned Shura Togi, I'm taking a wild guess he's not only referring to BST. Though I'll agree with you that for BST, raw DoT isn't a concern so much as a problem, take hate off your pet too much and you have problems with exp/hr.

This, of course, is said with the assumption that you put on a Hauby when you join a merit party.

Yes, Reauland mentioned it was a good DD piece, and I said that Hauby was better. Not just better for BST, but every DD job besides RNG(and even then kyudogi might win, no clue) has a better body piece for dealing damage.

Hauby has 5 STR/DEX, so there's only a 5 point difference between the two. The 10 accuracy and attack make a larger difference than you're giving credit for. Soloing is also a completely different story and is largely irrelevant, since you're more likely to wear evasion gear or other gear that doesn't improve your damage dealing in any way.

Yeah I'm going to say AGI only has an affect on ranged accuracy. It may also add crit+% but I really don't have the time to do all the testing. (Read: DEX Arguement @ BG)

Well . . . as far as Bst is concerned, that's simply not the case. That's what we're talking about, so soloing doesn't really become irrelevant as far as our particular derail goes :P

Bsts don't solo in evasion gear as a general rule. We have relatively low STR, nearly zero hate tools(well . . . "nearly" meaning we can merit one), and no way to draw hate in a fight other than damage. If we substitute eva gear in place of att, acc, STR, DEX, gear, *poof* there goes our hate and . . . well . . . what's the point of the evasion now? Keep in mind, I'm speaking to those times when we want hate to avoid an unnecessary pet swap. Otherwise, Bsts try to walk the razor's edge on hate between themselves and their pets.

I understand that you're saying that the Osode isn't the best piece for any DD in a party-style setting, and I agree; however, as Bsts are by and large solo/duo, crammed to the gills with Charm gear, melee gear, WS gear(and in some cases Reward gear), 4 axes and at least one staff, the Osode is an awesome catch-all inventory saver in addition to what it brings to the table in terms of overall stats.

I hate this fucking comment and I'd wish it would die.

BST doesn't have high STR, but it doesn't have low by far. 3 shy of MNK isn't "low."

I'd rather have the STR.

Frankly, it's the best body piece available to BST in the game, as it stands.
It's the best OVERALL piece of body gear available to BST at 75, which can benefit from every stat it has in one way or another to greater or lesser effect
It's the best OVERALL piece for most jobs that can equip it, while being the 2nd or 3rd best for just about every situation. Every other job can make the same claim to every stat being useful (except maybe CHR) STR/DEX - melee, VIT/AGI - defense, INT/MND - elemental/holy magic damage reduction.
Actually, I'm saying that Hauby is better DoT overall, most especially against anything considered VT+ to IT++, but if your axe merits and tp gear already have you on or near the acc floor against the Ts a Bst tends to fight, wouldn't they get more benefit from Osode than Hauby?
I think you would get more from swapping out the acc in another slot for something with damage instead of giving up 10 attack for 5 STR/DEX if you're at that point.

I haven't experimented much with my Osode. Without a doubt Osode is best overall in that you can full time it on BST and not be doing yourself a grave disadvantage ever in a normal solo or duo setup. And as Reau says we have a shit ton of gear on us.

But

Undoubtedly the best piece for charming and kiting on BST.
TP build Hauby is still best unless you are full of axe merits and hitting acc floor, even then I would still say Hauby may have a slight advantage.
Rampage I would go for Osode on most mobs that we exp on with some merits and it seems like you are almost always get high tp return, this is still questionable though.

BST has middle of the range strength really, compared to WAR we are low yes, but we are a little bit lower than most other melee jobs I have noticed. With my gear for rampage I nearly double my base strength without any abjs, which kind of scares me.

As stouter already said, the same could be said of just about any job that could equip it. It's the best all-around body piece, but in most situations there is something a little better. It's a useful body piece for just about every job.

Oh lawdy lawdy where to begin.

First I think I'll start with saying... I'll have what Vil is having. Hehe, pretty ideal bard set up there.

On the whole priority issue. My stance (especially in this day and age, with Osodes everywhere) is if you put in the time for it, and can use it. Its yours, doesn't matter who uses it more or better. Blah blah waaah. People always forgetting this is a game for fun.

On the Errant/Dalm/Osode angle. I'd probably end up using them all. I have Osode and Errant, and hopefully a Dalm one day. I tend to use errant on longer fights, or ones I'm paranoid and don't want to be the one to fubar up a spike flail. And Osode for everything else. No doubt the best pulling in merit party Body. As for Manteel, I think I might be the vast minority, or rather maybe the only one lol, who isn't too throughly impressed with it. Unless you are a hardcore merit junkie, I just don't see the huge draw in it. I don't see how people dismiss the Dalm so easily for Bard. If I ever snag one, I can't see me using much else in most situation.

Skill vs Chr. Skill hands down Destroys CHR. I'm still a little heavy on CHR because I don't have some of those fancy things Vil listed, hehe, and Meast makes me a sad Panda how easily he can toss some songs out there.

For the BST debate. Give all the Osodes to BSTs. One day they will rise to their way overdued glory. XD But on a serious note, I don't see how many are acting like the Hauby will double your damage or something on BST. It helps sure on evasive mobs, but other then that it doesn't put out godly damage or anything over an Osode. And then again who cares. You are soloing. (Or you should be damnit!) Do whatever you have fun doing.

Manteel is useful because it allows you to spend less time debuffing and buffing your melees/mages. If you're pulling hate off your tanks with buffs&elegy, you have more problems to worry about than whether to use Errant as a body piece or not.

Meh, Debuffs cast fast enough without it, and like I said I don't see the second or two it would save you on Ballad or longer buff songs to merit all the praise it recieves. Just my opinion, never said it was a bad piece I just don't see that "OMGZ" in it most people do. Its a nice piece and all, but give me a Dalm anyday. Or maybe even That Marduk Body.

Never said I was pulling hate. Said I was paranoid. Why I tend to wear it on those things with the hurty tails.

You split hairs over 20mp/minute (lol, fulltime refresh) and you can't appreciate the value of faster casting?

Yep, my preference my good man. That refresh with open head slot for roundlet far trumps the saving a second or two on a song.
