Help me settle a brd disagreement

It's worth considering, so long as your BRD isn't away from camp pulling 75% of the time. (The ability to dispel is quite useless when you're nowhere near the mob that needs the dispel, after all.)

In regards to Cocoon itself, another alternative is to bring along someone capable of inflicting defense down (such as Acid Bolts or Frightful Roar). This overwrites Cocoon.

Party setup is static NIN NIN BRD, pickup DDs and healer (Has been MNK MNK WHM lately). Usually the cocoon spam happens when he's finished the next pull and has it slept in camp, and the first crawler is at, like, 25% still because our damage output has dropped to 1/5th, and puts cocoon back up almost as soon as it's dispelled. Kinda bad for getting above chain 6. <_<

Well, that would certainly be viable. Alternatively (or in addition), you could try having WHM healers sub RDM for the same purpose (and slightly speedier spells too, nice on emergency cures as well as annoyingly slow casting things like regens). If they don't mind giving up /BLM utility spells and Conserve MP (or /SMN Auto-Refresh) that is, anyway ...

I know I'm (at least) two pages late, but LMAO

EDIT: And now having read the other replies, yes, I understand that it's the "best overall piece" piece for many jobs, but I'm assuming you're referring to a solo environment, as obviously we're all in agreement about there being much better alternatives for any melee(excluding RNG) job in a party.

So uhhh . . . all these other jobs are noted for their protracted soloing sessions, eh?

As to what gear to swap in and when, STR increases the size of your glass, ATT helps keep it filled. Too much ATT, and a solo Bst just gets hate and keeps it. The same is not the case for raw STR. If your options were taking a swing, turning away for a turn, rinse and repeat, or swinging away and for the most part letting the damage variance let the mob swing back and forth between you and your pet, which would you rather do?

A fast casting setup is very handy for a pulling brd, toss on troubadour and nightingale and you're keeping double ballad up on the mage(s) while spending less time casting than you would keeping ballad 2 alone up without. It's not useful in slow parties, but when you're doing those 15k+/hr parties where you never stop moving, it's the difference between losing chains around every 40 mobs and having a party that's one long chain.

Which, as I said earlier, I don't see the "OMGZ" in it unless you are a total merit whore. Never said it wasn't good for merit parties. But to me there is a lot more to this game then parsing merits to stroke the epeen. If you have fun doing that be my guest. I just don't dig on the general elitist attitude in it all. Not singling anyone out in this thread per se, but rather just the general scene. I guess I'm just bitter my PLD never gets any love. XD

So the moral of the story... Everyone STFU and have fun with the game. :D

Not to mention that Fonz is much sexier.
Dirty Taru wins! Come baaacccck!

Grab a NIN or MNK/NIN you can trust (BLU might work, never tried it myself), put on good DD gear, and go duo Caederva Mire. It's no 15k/hr cannon, but it sure beats 5k/hr crappy parties that PLD tends to get invited to.

Hehe, true. I just wish people still gave some love to the "old school" party set ups. Cause the trees up there are some good fun PLD exp. And go down pretty quick if you do... oh what were those things called... Ummm Oh yeah skill chains and MBs!

Skillchain + MB? That's sooooo 2005~ XD

Personally, I wish I could get some people to exp on Qutrub, those things are fun on SAM when the group isn't dying horribly like usually happens. >_>

brds use an osode? lol? Sha'ir if you can otherwise a combo of Errant/Yigit is just fine. Osode is e-peen/crap for brd. You should be using Yigit to cast faster buffs on your pt so you're losing that +hp/mp anyway. Osode I guess is okay for non-xp situations, but not really.

osode is fun for solo but not much else. some brds like to solo a lot, I liekd soloing when I was bored, and used osode then.

as far as dalmatica...refresh is useful but really not enough to pass such an item to a brd instead of a rdm, unless your ls really just has everything for everyone already.

osode also looks really cool imo lol, thats really the only reason I got one.

If you want to decide who should get something based on what jobs it is most useful for, then some people just won't come to sky, unless you lie to them about how long they can expect it to take to get their items. For example, as a taru bard, I have very little use for zenith gear. My "base" MP as /whm is high enough. I strongly prefer the music skill or higher chr of other equipment to the mp of zenith. I'd only come to sky if I had the same lotting rights to osode, haidate, and genbu's shield as other jobs, even though I only want them for my occsional lolDD-Bard. Even though other people can make better use of them, if I don't have equal rights to them there's no reason for me to be in sky at all, unless it's to get attendance credit in a shell that isn't sky-only.
