An 11-year-old girl who gave birth on her wedding day while still dressed in a white gown and a tiara says she is excited to "have a new toy".

Kordeza Zhelyazkova from Bulgaria gave birth to 2.4kg baby girl Violeta last week but left the hospital with her newborn after only an overnight stay to finish the wedding ceremony, the News of the World reports.

The schoolgirl said she and 19-year-old husband Jeliazko Dimitrov met in the playground of her school in the industrial town of Sliven after he saved her from bullies.

Kordeza said the pair began a sexual relationship even though she did not know what a condom was and fell pregnant within a week of them meeting.

"I'm not going to play with toys anymore — I have a new toy now," she was quoted by the paper as saying.

"She is so beautiful, I love her ... Violeta is the child and I must grow up.

"I am not going back to school — I am a mother now."

Kordeza said she did not realise she was pregnant until her grandmother pointed out her weight gain.

"I just thought I'd eaten too many burgers," she said.

But Mr Dimitrov could be jailed for up to six years for having sex with a girl under 14.

"I'm scared ... I want to look after my wife and child ... instead I may be going to prison," he said.

"I made a mistake but I am not going to apologise for that because now I have beautiful Violeta."

Kordez said she was not planning on having any more children.

Is this messed up? Absolutely, but I will say one thing in the defense of this poor girl.

Notice in the header of this article, the reporter chose to highlight the fact that she refers to her baby as a 'new toy.' In the article, however, I think it's clear her sentiment is anything but.

The translation may be butchered, but I think she's meaning that she won't be playing with toys anymore because this 'new toy' is now the most important thing in her life.

Unlike that kid in the UK (anyone remember him from a few months back?) who got his picture taken holding his child while playing a PS2, this girl at least recognizes the level of responsibility she now has. If nothing else, at least her attitude is in the right place.

This little girl has more commitment to being a parent than some twenty-somethings I know. I really hope things go as well for her as possible.

thats because shes ELEVEN, theres a reason why we have laws against 19 year olds having sex with 11 year olds. an 11 year old doesn't have the maturity/wisdom to make an informed decision when it comes to sex. at 11 its likely she didn't even know what sex was before meeting this sick fuck.

This is Bulgaria, not the US. They definitely have laws regarding this, but in rural areas, I highly doubt this is too far off the norm.

I guess i listen to loveline(that radio show with dr. drew) to much, you hear calls about this kind of stuff all the time and the two reaccuring themes that come up nearly every time are

A: when an 11 year old (or minor in general) has sex with an adult it basically FUCKS their emotional development and leaves them with serious emotional problems later in life. and
B: the 11 year old AT THE TIME sees nothing wrong with it, and doesn't even realize what kind of child molesting sick fuck they are getting attached to.

yes theres a very good chance this girl will be a good mother and raise this child right and give her a great childhood. but statistics dont lie, theres just as good a chance that this girl is emotionally fucked for the rest of her life and is going to be fighting sexual addiction/depression/ all kinds of fucked up emotional issues situations like this breed.

the hundreds of thousands of households that are in utter chaos with abusive, emotionally unstable parents, a HUGE percentage of these can be traced back to sexual or emotional abuse in the parents childhood. these kinds of things take years of therapy for people to get threw and most of them you couldn't get to go to a therapist kicking and screaming, and this story is happening in a country that i assume(forgive me if im wrong) doesn't have near the kind of mental health care like we have.

sorry for the rant but this is just a hotbutton issue for me, i was incredibly blessed to have a very stable childhood and a GREAT family, but i have close friends who's home lives were utter SHIT because of crazy emotionally fucked up familys and situations like this.

Well, did some digging (most of this is unconfirmed, but the bottom two are from news sites, a FOX affiliate and the Economic Times respectively):

The father says that he was fearful and really scared when he found out Kordeza was pregnant. He says they didn’t plan to have sex or a baby although he fell in love with Kordeza the moment he laid eyes on her.
He rescued the eleven year old from bullies who were bothering her at school. After which Kordeza arranged to meet the 19 year old young man and asked him out on their first date. The father of the 19 year old says he thought the girl was 15 and didn’t tell him she was 11.

Look, I'm just sayin' it's not unheard of. I'm not condoning what they did (THEY; the guy did not rape her, as Thelona is accusing), not by a long shot. It's just not unheard of.

And I'm sorry, three years between age 11 and age 14 does not make one wise by a stretch. I was arguably more stupid at age 14 than I was at age 11, at least at age 11 I was still quite obedient to my parents.

I'll give the guy credit that she doesn't look 11 but he really should have found out before they decided to have sex. I couldn't imagine having sex much less giving birth at 11! I know that it's a different culture and all but a lot of teenagers think that they are so in love and turn out that they aren't later. Heck I know that there are teenagers in our culture that have sex that early. Most don't realize the emotional and physical changes that with it until it's too late. I really wish the best for the family and hope that the girl and the baby grow up well.
