HNMKISS(LS) System Discussion

I know that Daveman. What im counting on is not entirely recycling through players, but recycling through, finding the strong ones.. the determined ones, theyll survive while the others let themselves become the recycled. In this way, forming a strong core, like a giant katamari ball, the good pieces will fit and the others will fall off as we bump along. ;)

Ironically, they're the ones that will thrive under a points system...

Yup, with my new shell, we have the "cycle people in and keep the good ones" plan too, such an ideology isn't unique to a specific lotting rule, we use points and such, and I'm actually quite happy with how things are going so far.

After some time has passed, things may evolve to better suit the concerns of the shell.

It may be a little too much to expect, but Im hoping that item distribution becomes a mutual agreement after some time, instead of being strictly bound by a hierarchy.

The main thing that I am trying to avoid is 5 people at the top towering over the 25 or 30 at the bottom. People who have been there for 8 months deserve just as much chance as people who have been there for a year. 8 months, while not as long as a year, is a hella long time. Why should those 8 month people be (virtually) forever slaves to the people who have been around just a bit longer? Id say those 8 month people have more than earned their right to a chance.

Also, stop comparing this to communism. I think a better comparison would be to a lottery.

I don't think you understand how a points system works. If a points system is working properly, someone who has been in the Shell for a longer period of time don't automatically have priority on items.

A properly functioning points system rewards effort, not time served. The ones who commit to giving more, get more in return.

Communism lacks incentives. Thats why the people ultimately become unhappy and unmotivated. Person A works harder than Person B, but Person B gets treated exactly the same as Person A. Therefore, Person A decides its not worth the effort to work harder, so he slacks off too and acts just like Person B. This equates to less production and a lazy society. I really don't feel that it is fair to compare it to communism.

The incentive of this shell is, by attending and working as a team, everyone has an equal shot at obtaining something really nice, of value. Everyone who contributes to one fight has an equal shot at obtaining one item that they want. And only one person will obtain the item; the rewards aren't equal. Which, is kind of like a lottery. Everyone pays $5 for a lottery ticket, but one person wins. Maybe two or three. Not everyone can win, but the person who does benefits greatly.

Comparable to joining an established shell, starting last in points, and waiting upwards of 6 months for any decent gear, some would rather take the lottery chance than being forced to invest a good portion of a year to see any results at all.

There are some people who don't like that slave-like feeling of joining some of the more prevalent HNM camping shells. This may be an interesting alternative if it is carried out well.

And in order to put in effort, what is consumed? Time. Points are generally earned through time spent, or, effort put into making time for camps. It's pretty much the same thing. If people can't put the time in, this may be a great alternative (and they know going into it that there isn't the insurance policy that a point system-based shell holds - its a risk, much like a lottery, but for some its better than not being able to participate at all.)

Besides, playing the lottery is way more fun than standing in line :nyam:

Yeah, it is. The thought of getting a big win for virtually free is enticing to those who think it will get them a free ride. Whether it be a million dollars for a few bucks outlay or a Ridill for a few hours camping. Nearly everyone who enters a lottery though, loses.

The reality is that to make a living you have to work, to get a Ridill, you have to work too.

Catering to people wanting a free ride, will get you numbers, and it may even get someone a Riddill, but it won't get you a successful shell.

If you don't spend the time, you don't get the gear. Maybe 20 Riddills drop a year. If your Shell (which is made up by your members) can't regularly camp it, you can't have a Riddill. That's the way it is. This isn't K-Mart.

I'm curious to where your recruits will come from. High % of players that want to do endgame activities already have several ls's. Then you have the ones that pop-in-grab then leave. This may work for a short period, but people are greedy and the current way may end up failing or changing to an established system (points/tiers).

Well you just told Dracoden he might get a Ridill, but your response to my post says he wont. I'm confused =P

K-mart is the points system. The more money (points) you earn, the more you can buy (items) O_o

Isn't it Walmart now anyway? =/

If all else fails and we can't decide who should get what item, I guess we could just go the way of the gilsellers and sell the items off to the highest bidder and split the money :omg:

Read again.

You might win the lotto too.

Quitting your job in the expectation that you'll make enough money to live off future lotto winnings is foolish.

(Oh, I'm Australian, we don't have Walmart here...)

Well, my plan is this: I'll tell 2 friends and then, they'll tell 2 friends.. and bam! thats like 10 people right there! (<3 family guy)

Seriously though, thats basically how its working out right now.. I started with a couple people, they got more people, and so on. Plus, I got a few messages from random players as well. I think this will moreso cater to the 'casual' player rather than just people who plan to grab and go.

Besides, why would someone abandon a LS after getting something for free? Don't you think they'd want to stay and try again?

So now you're going to decide who gets the items that drop? What happened to everyone there being able to lot?

Your recruiting strategy is literally a pyramid scheme?

better than the item distribution being a pyramid scheme...

You're right, getting rewarded for your time is an awful idea. Luck is a much better facet for item distribution.

Give me a break, this belongs in off-topic, because this is a complete joke. I'm telling two friends to stay the hell away from this, and hopefully each of them will do the same.
