Hockey 2008

Dallas-Detroit is going to be interesting. While they still have a very low chance of advancing, I'm going to bet on them forcing a Game7

I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the roar of the crowd.

Its on like Tron. I will bank on Detroit especially if we have Johan Franzen back.

Shit! It overlaps with Pistons-Celtics! The schedule makers should be shot!

AHAHAHAHA WOOOOOO! *cough* I'm calm.

Pens vs. Red Wings

Game 1: Saturday 8 p.m. (CBC Hockey Night in Canada)
Game 2: Monday 8 p.m. (CBC Hockey Night in Canada)
Game 3: Wednesday 8 p.m. (CBC Hockey Night in Canada)
Game 4: Saturday 8 p.m. (CBC Hockey Night in Canada)

Damn I love Canada.

And Coaches Corner with Don Cherry > Every other intermission show ever.

Rat bastard >< Hockey coverage on Versus is somewhere between watching a game during an earthquake while two people scream gibberish in your ear, and having your dick smashed in a car door. FSN Pittsburgh stopped carrying games after the Eastern Semi's, which means I have no options.

Also, after hearing so much about him over the years, I just started seeing Cherry for the first time on SportsCenter now. He is amusing, but I'd probably get annoyed if I had to listen to him outside of that 3 minute window. Barry Melrose is superior.

not a Hockey fan, but I thought this was funny.

DETROIT VS PITTSBURGH

Did I understand this right? They did not play each other this past year? I understand the different league thing but wow.

This should be good, at least I hope the young guns on Pittsburgh match the seasoned players of Detroit.

My choice in game ONE: Pittsburgh, youth coming out guns a blazing

Young Guns vs the Old Guard. This is gonna be an awesome series.

Bump for justice!

Also, Go Pens!!!

Sid the Kid goin all the way!

Puck drop of game 1! GO GO GO!

And the faceoff with Yzerman and Lemieux was nice.

First peroid no goal, almost be almost only counts in hand grenades and horse shoes.

Fucking hockey, I am going to lose my voice from all the yelling I have to do watching this.

Game one Detroit. Sid the kid is going to have to try a little harder to beat Detroit's defense, welcome to the NHL.

With the offense that Pittsburgh possesses there was not much reason to not score at least 1 goal this game especially with the power plays they had. They need to get in the next game or be put in a dangerous situation falling 2 games to Detroit. Something tells me though they just got a wake up call from my team and realized "Oh shit this is a real hockey team". Go big or go home Penguins, we win cups here lol.

Yeah, even being a giant Pens guy, I'll agree that Detroit completely out-manned them tonight. In all honesty (though I was happy at the time) I thought that first goal by Lidstrom should have counted too. Still, the Pens came out solid in the first period, and then registered 7 shots on goal in the last two combined. That simply isn't gonna get it done. We're not in Philly anymore ; ;

Sidenote: When Therrian switches the lines (AKA: when he gets desperate), I think it the worst move he could make. Sure, putting Hossa, Crosby, and Malkin on one line seems like a novel idea, but then you ruin the rest of your lines. The Pens have generated 0 goals out of that switch, and the preceding line of Sykora, Staal, Malone has also generated nothing.

Dear Mr. Therrian, Keep your lines together, fucktard. They've worked for 12 of 15 games so far this postseason.

The no-goal at the start was a good call. Holmstrom and Franzen have been getting away with alot of that kind of stuff all year, and the NHL is fed up with it. They already proved that they can score without interfering with the goalie, so I don't see an issue.

And Pittsburgh needs to change up their strategy for getting the puck across center. It just isn't working.

Also, Osgood was superb.

I couldn't agree more Tim. When he does his "VOLTRON GO!" line switch it leaves the other lines lacking in offensive power and then they scramble all over not knowing whats going on. I could see it being a nice thing to do if it produced or if the other lines worked that got scrambled after the fact, but they don't.

As for the call back goal, I saw where Holmstrom's stick was on that Lidstrom shot. It looked to me that if Homer hadn't had touched Fleury's pads, it would have probably gone in anyway. But the league has had it out for Holmstrom and Franzen all year anyway so I come to expect Bettman's league to continue the biased call backs on Detroit goals. Now I'm not saying some of those weren't deserving, but lately in these playoffs it's getting absurd.

I think by far the dumbest Bettman rule is banning the Octopus twirling and throwing in Detroit, a tradition since like the 1950's. I swear that man hates Hockey and Detroit in general. I think its high time we get a new Hockey commissioner.

This is pathetic, the Penguins keep on disappointing me. Now I understand going after Franzen since he has a concussion but to do it soo blatantly after the play over and over again and give us power plays? Stupid.

Pittsburgh doesn't want the cup the way they are playing and thats for certain. To not score in 2 games in the Stanley cup finals when you have one of the most dangerous offenses in the league is absurd.

Sorry to kill your dreams kiddos, but this cup without doubt will be in Detroit. Sid the kid will not be your Jesus as seen in the Gatorade commercials.

a team with one super star player will never beat a team full of great team players. IE: crosby cant beat detroit on his own. all that detroit has to do, and has already done, is smother crosby. they have more than done this to him. crosby has done absolutely nothing so far. he will continue to do nothing. osgood is a great goalie. the very few shots he has had to stop were weak. even if pitt can get past the normal defense, osgood will stop a good majority of the rest.

detroit has too much great teamwork for them to not win the cup. hands down. cup is going to detroit without doubt.

plus, no one through the entire playoffs have even come close to shutting detroit down.

You're right on the defense part. Detroit is just far too dominant in the neutral zone. That has been and will be the key to this series. I'm gonna have to disagree about the "one superstar" thing though, because the Pens have plenty of talent on their end outside of Crosby (Malkin, Staal, Sykora, Hossa, Talbot, Malone, etc). Still, the Pens are gonna have to take both home games or else we're fucked. I thought it would be a little more even than this, but the Red Wings really turned it on when it meant something, and I'll give my kudos to that.
