Honor

Because no matter what they say, if you are honorable in RL, youre going to be honorable online.. you cant divorce honor from your Self simply because your words are typeface instead of sound .
Anyway I guess the point is, i'm wondering if anyone out there values honor anymore.. or if everyone is of the opinion that you can never trust anyone, and that behaving with honor is something you can take or leave as the situation suits you.

Ok my posting here on this topic is just becoming simply flaming but I am here with a good point. My problem with this entire post is right here in this paragraph.

From what you are writing you seem to be saying the world is different now vs. from whatever or whenever point you seem to be comparing to. You seem to be saying that people are worse now days in terms of honor than they were in say, "before you were born"?. I honestly have no clue to when your reffering to, and how you would be able to compare people from a later time to now.

When exactly are you talking about that people had more honor? Is that form the story books you read detailing how all the honorable men in Japan and such fought in wars? Or was that how the Amercians fought honorably in the civil wars?

To me we are the same bunch of people that we were before, there just is alot more of us now.

Another thing I have a problem with you implying is that you seem to think that we can trust the majority of people in our life. I guess to you "trust" can mean levels of trust, if that is what you mean then yes, I can trust most people on a certain "level". But you can trust even the most dispecable of people to a certain point. Trusting someone fully to the point of honoring them is very different though, and you don't find many people like that in RL or online.

And lastly its your whole "stance" on what honor means to you. Its kind of insulting actually the way someone uses the word "honor" like you do. To you "Honor" seems to be the way someone simply behaves, like saying "Cool dude you gave that money back ta him instead of stealing it, You honorable  " Honor to me is much more, to me your either honorable or You are NOT. To me you don't use the word "Honor" to sound cool or use in a punchline, or even use as a way to make someone behave the way you think they should. To me if you are honorable you live by principles which dictate what is right and wrong to you, you don't live life moment by moment, day by day. Its like being religious but not necassarily requiring a religion.

Honor to me is WHO you are, not simply what you do. And your not gonna have people change who they are by flaming then on a board.

No.. where would you get the idea that when I condemn targetting civilians in war that I would be in favor of torturing prisoners...

2nd, I was talking about the Nazis... you do know that germany had an army right?

1: The idea comes from you left winged speaking people that think our camps are so terrible and so destructive. When in fact ours are much less horrid than the enemies and always have been. In Iraq they torture and decapitate us. We put panties on their heads and make them walk around naked basically just humiliate them and "Oh noes you guys are fkin cruel go go lawsuite"... Mind you the civilians they capture are innocent workers mainly and the ones we capture and treat that way are criminals or of links to them. I don't think you condem the actions of torture but you trying to put the bame of all things eil camp wise on the U.S. Army would be a grand mistake. You simply seem out to just critize the people who have gave you the safety and freedom you have today.

2: I know Germany had an army. I also spoke of the Nazis. What's your point?

wow soapbox much? I was referring to Auschwitz. Not eh.. whatever that prison was called.abugharab.

and just so you have it clear, im not in favor of torturing prisoners... and I dont have any wings. so stop attributing thoughts to me that I dont have simply because its convenient to your argument to try to do so.

AKA "Cat got your tongue".

i agree. i dont think this person will change but there is the possiblity of awareness though this flame. this throws a few perspectives out there for people to see. people also know they are not alone.

for the bold, i used almost that exact line in a paper last spring semester.

I wasnt comparing this generation to generations past.., I was asking a general question about the amount that people in this day and age value the concept of honor.

If you cant trust the people in your life.. why do you associate with them?

heh. So youre saying you believe in honor as a set of principles that you cannot take or leave as the situation suits you, but that are immutable regardless of circumstances... which Is WHAT I ASKED IN THE FIRST PLACE. Yet you disagree with me about what honor is.. when you define it the exact same way. If I could find the emoticon with the smiley face hitting itself with a hammer I would use it. I guess the only problem with each other is we define honorable actions differently. You seem to believe (in a quite hindu manner) that being true to your own nature is honorable, despite what that entails. I believe theres standards of decency and goodness that define honorable deeds.

When you use anymore in that sentence it looks to me like you seem to think people had more honor before as compared to now. When is it your reffering to? Anymore??? When did we ever? Please explain. Sorry I had to bold that out for you but you seem to be having trouble understanding what you are writing.

Oh ok, so what your saying is if I can't trust somebody then I shouldn't associate with them???? Ok so I guess everybody you associate with in RL and online you'd give them your credit card, you'd give them your home phone, you'd give them the keys to your house.

Just what the are you implying now????? I guess the only people I should associate with are the ones I consider truely honorable and would trust my life with huh?

must be an english major.. quibbling over turns of phrase rather than actual points. You can misunderstand anything if you try hard enough.

And just as an aside.. if a friend asked me for money or my credit card or whatnot it must mean they really need it, and I help friends. You on the other hand cannot have my CC. see the difference? Also.. paranoid much?

You write ALOT better than I do Orchid. Its your reading comprehension that has problems.

hehehe. You need to live a little young one.

Or yours.

Thanks all the same but I think I prefer my reality with my possibly naieve faith in truth and honesty and honor and friendship than your embittered cynicism.

What does that make you now? A sexist also?
