How many of you are planning to play FFXIV?

I'm going to play.. But I'm not looking forward to all the end game "linkshells" recruiting 2 months before the servers go live. I just hope I manage to find a server where there aren't any giant epeens after 2 minutes of game play.

I think that's the part that disheartens me the most. It won't be a new game. It will be the same game that's played now, the same players being the same dickweeds, only this time they will blackball anyone "they" don't deem worthy of having an experience party from Day One.

Sorry, not interested. FFXI was really my first big adventure into the Final Fantasy spectrum, and although I love the single-player games, I am not enthusiastic about XIV or even XIII for that matter.

This makes me a sad panda =(

I'm gonna cross my fingers that stine trys it, gets addicted to it, and forces you to join her. =P

You overestimate her power to force me to do anything:)

I'll fucking force you then. I'll just remind you how you owe me 3 months of your life.

I'm betting if stine trys it, you'll show up eventually. Didn't you not want to play ffxi to begin with?

It wasn't that I bucked trying to play it or anything. As a matter of fact, my feelings toward FFXI were more of ambivalence than anything - I was pretty against paying to play a game, but when she did ask, I tried it out and enjoyed it. If you remember, I did only play a few days before taking a three month break, before rerolling as the Tarutaru you knew and loved.

However, after ceasing to pay the moolah, I am downright adamant (at least for myself, won't speak for Stine) that I won't be paying a monthly fee to play an MMO ever again. That goes for Star Wars The Old Republic too, even though I'd love to get in on it.

The reason I'm not so hyped for this like some people are is the same "not being a new game" feeling. I know it's new, there will be new people to meet and old friends to adventure with, but I won't get the "fresh" MMO feeling from any MMO anymore. FFXI was my first true MMO and when I've played any other MMO, I don't get the "omg this is so cool" feeling that I got from FFXI. As for the same old assholes part, I'll just continue what I do now and try my best to ignore them.

But like I said, I'm planning to trying but there is no intentions at all yet to stay. I haven't seen anything that's excited me about it and I kinda want to stay out of MMO after I'm done with FFXI anyway.

I feel the same way about never getting the fresh feeling again. FFXI was my first mmo too. Even when I went to play aion I totally compared the two. I wanted my mithra back..and I wanted a lot of my ffxi back. I think what excites me about ffxiv is that if I want, I can stick with the same type of character as before(Hoping they add new races too), and it'll be a similar feeling. Not the same, but similar.

I'll give it a whirl and see if it's fun or not. I try pretty much every mmo that comes out for at least a day or two.

FFXI was my first MMO as well, and I gotta say no other MMO has yet to grab me as well as it did (Aion almost pulled it off......almost) but after seeing what might be possible in FFXIV, I'm really looking forward to it, as well as hopefully seeing some familiar faces (you folks) in there as well. Having some good people in the game helps counter balance the dicks that may show up.

I'm definitely planning on checking it out upon release, but on a much more casual basis than how I started with FFXI

i'll be playing, and actively but i wont be spending another 5-6 years

We all say we won't be addicted, we won't be playing for years, we won't be doing whatever. You really don't know what you'll get addicted to until you're addicted. If we all had the power to decide what we're addicted to and attracted to in video games, we would have been free of FFXI much sooner then we would have hoped.

You know I'll be there Mir. But whether I abandon Aion for it, only time will tell. I plan on actually canceling XI when it's released.

Well I haven't really played FFXI since 2004 lol. With that said, I'll probably give this a try like I have every final fantasy.

I am planning to play, even though I am playing AION right now. FFXI was my first MMO and I loved it, I hope FFXIV lives up to my expectations!

oh, im not making any pretense about not getting addicted lol

that part is up to SE, if they can pull off the next gen mmo style while still keeping that magic, that "Je ne sais quoi" ffxi had. I foresee myself being hopelessly addicted =P

Depends if it runs on my computer or not. I got hooked on FFXI because I picked it up for Xbox 360 1st. I got it for my PC when my 360 RROD'd and I had to get a new graphics card to play it since my PC wasn't up to snuff. I really don't want to have to upgrade my PC (i.e. I'm too friggin cheap) to play any game. But if FFXIV runs on my computer now, then scratch everything i just said, I'll be there.
