Ok minor rant here, and trust me I dont go off often.

I was scanning certain levels of people seeing if a party opportunity was there maybe at lower levels and saw a lv 31 ninja in party with the following seek comment.

31 Ninja please invite me, I have a PL

Now I know its nice to be playered and get things done faster but honestly would you party with this situation? Are we all so bad now that we cant even get an invite without throwing a temptation out like that?

Tanks are in such short numbers most nights I'm sure a Ninja would be snapped up fast anyway, reason this bothers me a little is one PL makes up for not needing a mage, you can throw any strange set up together as long as you have a babysitter watching over you. I'm sure this makes it harder on mages that level seeking a party, I guess some dont want a balanced party with some challenge anymore.

Sorry to rant about whats probably a quite accepted thing on FFXI I just wondered if anyone else finds this annoying too.

I agree also. Although i do think it is FAR worse at lower levels where people are still learning how to play. At level 30 you should have a grasp on the game mechanics. I could be wrong though, look at some of the people on quetz.

I tended to avoid people who have "I have a PL" in their search comment.
Past tense because either I don't make my parties much anymore, or when I do those people seem to be oddly absent. I do agree, though, that setting up a bait like that makes you look like you're not confident in your own abilities, in my eyes.

in b4 shitstorm

anyway: my opinion is that using a PL to get invited is pathetic, whereas, in the same boat, denying a PL for no reason other than personal arrogance is as pathetic as the former.

I give the guy points for marketing himself in his search comment. If it gives him an edge over any other tanks seeking, more power(leveling) to him. I'm not a big fan of the PL movement, but I can't fault him for this.

Is it person arrogance to want to do your job well and gain skills in it? Tanks are told "Dont Voke off the PL" Blm's are given free reign to nuke heavy, every melee weapon skills whenever they feel like it. Theres no co-ordination or thinking in a PL'd party just a mass of people doing things they wont be doing next time they dont have the added help.

People learn bad habits being PL'd would you trust this peron to know their job well enough later on when they dont have access to a PL?

I know I'm probably making a mountain out of a molehill since it happens so much these days anyway.

I hate that sometimes. If I'm powerleveling someone, I kind of want to powerlevel them, and maybe one other person. They shouldn't advertise that they have one. If people really want them, they'll invite. It's not like they're getting shitty exp soloing.

Personally I disagree with PLing in general for any job below level 20ish. I've seen what happens when a person gets PLed all the way through valkurm.

I partied with such a rdm, he was 18, and he cast protect on us every 5 minutes...

In the middle of party, after spamming protect, he sat down and rested. >_>;

Basically, unless the job is something very similar to one you've already leveled, IE your a 75 war and now leveling monk, I considering PLing very bad idea until you're out of the dunes, by then you've gotten the hang of your job.

I gotta agree with some of the posts here. I won't mind a PL in the lower levels just so I don't have to deal with the people in dunes or I just tend to solo. But usually when someone has to advertise, "Hay guyz! I got PL! Invite plz lololol" I tend to avoid them since they might be lacking in common sense and I'd prefer not to waste my time to find out.

want to feel useless in a party?

Be a whm and get invited to a part with not one but TWO PLs

want to feel useless in a party?

Be a whm or pld and get invited to a part with not one but TWO PLs

btw, i think powerleveling is the reason many plds don't know to build hate by cure-bombing those who pull hate from them :p

Haha... I had something similiar happen to me on my first character. It was a dunes party around 16-17 if I remember correctly...I believe we had a total of 3 PL's at one point while I was on my BLM. It was definitly interesting lol.

I think a PL is very situational. First off, you don't ever need two, period. Secoond, I've never liked parties where there's a mage in party perfectly capable of curing them but there's a level 75 whm or rdm standing there curing instead. The party dynamics get totally blown because chances are the PL (unless they care about people actually learning their jobs, and they usually don't) will end up "tanking," and no one is going to learn their hate control, mp management, etc. at lower levels. On the other side of the coin, and this I've found to be the case the longer the game has gone on, is that you'll have 20 melee/tanks seeking and no mage jobs, or no feasible healer jobs available. I've seen that happen for days on end sometimes where you're lucky if one mage flags up your level range when you happen to be seeking as well. Personally, I see nothing wrong with not wanting to wait hours and hours or days on end for one mage to show up your range so you can exp. Sure you can solo, but soloing doesn't exactly help you learn party dynamics either.

Bottom line, it's basically like anything else in the game. If you are excessive about using a PL or you flat out won't party without a one present, then yeah, your skills are probably lacking and you're not doing yourself or anyone else a favor. But if you use one on the odd occasion when it's that or no healing at all, then I don't see anything wrong with it.

PLing is the new/old thing! I feel sorry for this new breed of WHMs with no capped Healing Magic or knowledge of WHMing.

downsize your sig.

NIN tank + dual boxed PL {No thanks}

On the other hand, I would love to watch that in action. From the outside.

That "new breed" has been in waves for years now. lol Sad but true. Well that and most mages coming up within the last year or so never partied in places like Labrynth of Onzozo or Den of Rancor so they're a bit stingy or slow on the silena/paralyna/stona. Those places were like boot camp; they made you good... but the expansions made a lot of the newer mages spoon-fed. :nono:

I love PLs. They get me through the shitty levels faster.

lol, was this person named Collet?

Was in a pt last night with her, and it was in her seacom. I don't like PL'ers, feel it breeds a bunch of retards, because they were watched over for all their leveling. And when thats taken away from them they don't know what to do.

Some people though, like me, have been playing a long time, and its just a little boost to exp, can have 6 DD jobs and just burn through exp. I know how it works without a PL, so it's fine. When you get 4-5 levels in one pt, you kinda don't wanna go without a PL next time. Not supporting them, but its why you see them in every pt now.
