I know how to live and play now

why do you really feel it is important to "come out of the closet" in a game? Who really gives a shit? Shady

I think your missing the point a bit Shady. This wasn't a 'coming out of the closet' speech. A persons sexuality is as knowing and common as if a person is female or male (I know in the games with all the mithra/manthra its hard to tell sometimes) but you get what I'm saying... right? If Sphene is comfortable, as well as anyone else, with it.. then they shouldn't hide it.

I think this is more of a 'this is me, take it or leave it' speech.

Just to play devils advocate- Should people that are uncomfortable w/ her sexuality hide it?

*edit- i dont care about anyones sexual orientation, so that is not an attack on anyone.

No, I dont think anyone should hide how they feel. Guess its just all in the way you say it.

If you're uncomfortable with a persons sexuality is one thing. To make the other person uncomfortable and to attack them without a care of their feelings is another. It's a pretty solid line and it really is sad to say that it's crossed sometimes. Just be more respectful to their feelings and what they stand for; there's no need to step on someones toes if they aren't stepping on yours.

I'm not directing that at anyone, that's all rhetorically speaking. Situational speaking, not individual. I dunno if I'm making sense, allergies are beating me down like my italian family with a bat. >.<;;

I'm not disagreeing with you here - but Sphene, when you wave that rainbow colored flag around on the server and parade how comfortable you are with your sexuality - you're making yourself a target, and a fairly big target at that. And there's no point to it other than to seek appraisal from other people like you did on this thread. When you mess up in parties or piss someone off or even if you don't do anything wrong, you can't just deny responsibility for huggles, being fabulous or whatever other terminology you might espouse.

I have remained silent long enough

Ok Shady, how about you do this before you judge, and before
you think you know thing one about me.
why don’t you go back to the first page, pull your head out of
your ass and re-read my entire post. My post is NOT
a "coming out announcement" and believe it or not, there was
a message within that post, a suggestion on how to live and play
obviously you missed it. Again, I say, go read the post. Since the
part within the post about my sexual orientation obviously bothers you
hold up your hand and cover that paragraph up then re-read the post.
If that still does not help to illuminate the message within the original post, then
I ask you kindly to not revisit this thread and refrain from posting any further
Foolishness.

Not a coming out announcement? Then WTF is this...

"First, let me get this out in the open now.
I am almost 26 years old... I am a woman, and I am bi-sexual.
(*Puts up a sign on her front lawn*)
I have met a wonderful woman with the game. (*waves* Hi Aerdrie!)"

Right. As I was saying when you write stuff like this, you're announcing to all of the Internet (and I'm assuming you've written similar stuff in game) "Hey, I like chicks, but don't hold that against me." Why shouldn't we pick on you? You've just painted a red target sign all over your character for us to poke fun at. And the only person that takes it seriously is you! So spare us this holier than thou rant, it's quite childish. And if you can't take being called names then don't announce that you're a switch hitter! Yeesh.

First of all of all things...Sphene~!!!!!! *pounce and uber-huggles* lol
ok now thats out of my system ;p you knows i luvs you~ XD

Sphene is one of the most uber-paladins i ever met ^.^ She can tank anything in my opinion lol
She is very very bold, honest and sometimes brutally honest (thats the great part of her!!) She will speak her mind, and like it or not she will make herself be heard. I really admire that about her.
I feel I am very much lucky to actually have met her and done stuff with her.
She is a rare find in my opinion and if you have interacted with her in-game...you wont forget her. Her presence is that strong.

Sexuality should have nothing to do with this game, and if people say if they are heterosexual, homosexual, or bi...it REALLY shouldnt matter to you if you are in a party with such a person as long as they are doing their job!
If you think it does then maybe you should just play some regular console games where a character's sexuality is rendered "normal" and maybe you would feel secure and safe in that world >.>

This was a post that she now knows how to play the game!!! Just like any other game you play on the PS2 or Xbox etc. To have fun!!
This had nothing to do with her sexuality, rather it was a post on her actually having fun in the game.

I had a problem with not having fun in the game for a while also. In the beginning I enjoyed the game but as the levels got higher and higher...well it wasnt so much fun for me for a while. Maybe we all go through that. This game forces you to interact with people you dont know in real life most of the time. Some people can be good, kind-hearted and then there some that can be real pricks. And that gave me alot of stress. Maybe you dont feel it or perhaps you dont really care.

To each his own right?

If I'm not mistaken, to hold a place of discussion is to give each and every person participating respect, is it not?
Or even in this game. Give respect and you get some back. She will give you respect should you give her respect. To call someone gay, homo, bi and make fun of them for that is not giving them any respect at all.

Its derogatory. You would be crossing the line.

Anyways...
Sphene, I'm glad you are having fun in the game again and I hope to see more of you again ^.^ I wish you best of luck with Aerdrir (did i spell right?) and I hope we can do more stuff again ^.^

Amen, to that.
This is something we should all be aware of because its so easy to lose awareness of how we treat others in the game depending on various situations.

Some situations don't have to deal with sexual orientation of others.
It could be a disagreement in a Ballista or Brenner, an EXP party, a mission, an LS discussion, a personal discussion, etc.

Sometimes people are willing to jump the gun ever so quickly without being respectful, and in the end they complain when someone lashes out back at them.

What happens when you corner a animal that you mistreated?
Do you think it will treat you nicely by you being an a-hole to it?
Or do you think it'll retaliate and attack back?
Prepare to be scarred.

Umm...not sure what else to say for now. :-D
Umm..wazzzzzzap Sphene!!

but if you're in my level 70 party and wearing seer's slacks...buh bye.
bu bu but THEY GIVE ME INT!!
seriously sabs, i wouldn't boot a 70 blm for wearing seers slacks. only other pants that are good at that lvl is druid slops, and the 5 elemental magic on exp mobs isn't that big of a deal for blm unless the mob is strong to the spell. but come on dhamle and firaga3? or aeroga 3? i'd wear seer's slacks over druid for it. let alone druid slops over the xmas time shot up to well over 1mil (which is nuts).

please note shady, that the subject matter of this post has nothing with sphene's sexual orientation. This particular statement was well into her post, and was more added in as an afterthought, to explain the situation she was in. also, who in their right mind should just sit there and be called names? Last i checked, name-calling was something we did in elementary school, and the dumbshits did in highschool.

I can only hope I have the pleasure and honour of meeting/partying with you in game, Sphene ^.^ Bravo.

Shady, this isn't the place for that, nor is there any place for that. People are different, shall I insult you in game for having character model 2A?(Dunno if you do, but you get my drift.)

<3

Most of the things you listed were reasons I ended my FFXI career, so many months ago. Knowing that there are like-minded folks who don't take the game so seriously is really an up-lifting feelin'. Hopefully the social climate of Vana D'iel will lighten up a bit, gradually.

If I do come back to Quetzy, I'll be sure to send you a friendly note~
