I quit. (post of the year)

I’m not sure you understand this but I think it is important for us as a community to distinguish between real players and fake ones who take up space on the server, not playing, and making it hard on us who DO play. You have been given credit for your actions since and I know how interesting the internals of the game must have been for you. I studied programming (just not enough) and graphics and I would love to have your knowledge or be able to do what you can do. In fact, I would love to be able to create games and I’m a genius at designing them. HOWEVER, as a GAMER cheating in a multiplayer game is unforgivable. HOWEVER… the only way I could see redemption would be if you turned your gaming career around by causing more good than bad. You supplied hacks. The resulting actions of those you supplied reflect on you. Your legacy is probably still cheating as I speak so in essence YOU are still cheating. The only redemption I can think of if you used your hacking ability (like a white hat) to stop cheating, turn in names (to us if not to SE), and prevent as much hacking as possible. You can even submit code to the developers to help stop the hacks you know about instead of exploiting their weaknesses. Please forgive them if making an actual GAME was their first priority and not a security against their own customers. I mean you really don’t seem like a bad person. I just think you don’t really understand how bad your actions were. It is not just curiosity on my part. As a REAL player I want to help make FFXI a better gaming environment for myself and my friends because this is where we like to play and hang out. It’s not just a game. It’s people.

cheating didnt take the fun out of the game for me, it made it more fun. and i still played, for 4 years. yes. played. Id never make another character in this time sink if i was paid to do so.
while you consider the moment i started cheating as the moment i lol stopped playing, then your wrong. because i just took playing to another level, a level you dont like and i dont care.
i enjoyed playing that way, it made it more fun and the challenge? dont get caught. That was fun too.
i would never take it back, i would do it all over again, and im still a member of the cheating community and will continue to contribute my thoughts and ideas on other programs and hacks in support of them in the future, so you keep playing your way, and tho i quit, im still playing mine.
and being on ps2 isnt an excuse, the info to cheat on that is out there too if they want it to be.
hell its even been proven windower enhances your characters running speed, so WTG for all those windower users eh?
even the GM said it does.
but everyone response to that has been, oh well they are lying. You know it comes from an official source and its lying because they dont wanna be wrong. lol. cute.
you can state that you feel i didnt play all you want, still wont change the fact that i did. and im still givin the game hell while im not playing it.
i played how i wanted, and i enjoyed it all the way. Thanks for the memories, keep the shoes.

see no matter how much people say that, as i remember it. I played the game, it felt like i played, i had fun like i played. I played the game, if it wasnt by your standards thats fine, but i still played how i enjoyed to play.
50% of my career your way, 50% my way. And i enjoyed both ways, just i woudla quit long ago if i kept playin the boring legit way. needed to spice it up and i did.
most posts like this are to make hackers feel bad or get under their skin, when in reality, it doesnt make us feel anything bad about it at all. not saying that to be a smart ass or nothin. im stating that because its true, i read all that and didnt feel the slightest bit hurt or regretful, infact i smiled.
it doesnt matter what it takes to get an item,
no matter how you get it, it feels just as good to get it because you got it either way. i dont care what other people think about my gear, whats important to me is i got the gear I want.
i didnt have tons of pricey flashy gear, but i had the gear i wanted and i loved that.
theres no hacker thats gonna look at this and say...hes right, i should quit cause they say im not playing.
truth is, if you like it or not they are still paying for and playing the game, if by your standards or theirs theres no way the game IS not being played if your sittin there playing it.

See you are promoting cheating as a way to get an 'alternative' sense of enjoyment. That's what bothers me the most. This is fine for a single-player game. But in a multiplayer game environment your cheating affects other people. Once one person cheats your mentality is that hey we should all cheat to compete. That's why you got tired of the game and felt like it was wasting your life. I saw the video so I know what you said to the GM. This game didn't take anything from you. YOU did that when you decided to start hacking it. See, once you started that it wasn't about FFXI the game. It was about FFXI the hacking contest. You weren't addicted to the game. You were tired of it. So then you MADE YOUR OWN GAME... hacking FFXI. And that's not the game I or other REAL players like me paid for. You think that because you enjoyed it that it validates it. You paid money afterall, right? But there is no legitimate alernative way to play a game than what the game rules say. Once you go outside those rules you're no longer playing. This doesn't mean you're not logging on and fighting mobs. This means you are no longer taking part in the designed gaming experience that we all agree to when we log in everyday. Without the rules, its not a game. It's just a fun toy. And a lot of kids (KIDS mind you) break their toys trying to play with it in ways not intended. True? You're a dad so you will see this first hand if not already. After awhile they don't want to play with that broken toy anymore. Now do you think another kid wants to come over and play with a bunch of broken toys your kid doesn't even want to play with anymore? And then you're going to think of how wrong it was to break that toy you bought and spent your money on when your kids no longer want it anymore because they broke it. Future hackers, indeed. FFXI may be a toy for our enjoyment, but it is a shared toy. Do you really think its okay to break it for someone else? Are you paying my FFXI bill?

lol i certainly didnt pay to hack the game, i had fun playing even if it involved hacks. you REAL players benefit from hacking everyday, so what does that make you any better? just cause you dont know you are does not mean your not. Youll benefit from hackers many times in FFXI, 2nd hand hacking is just as bad is it not? one of those king claims is gonna be botted, and one of those pieces of gear is gonna come to you.
and i say, enjoy.
but my point has been stated to you, you attempted your point. No need for me to continue with you.
carry on.

Bruh, I AM on a PC and if I wanted to cheat I could probably figure out exactly how to do so. And you can bring up windower all you want but its not going to get you anywhere with me. I only used windower a couple times well over a year or two ago before I bought my laptop. And you can verify how clean I am if you want. Crosscheck my IP to your hearts content.

Most people didn't know about any increased speed and I know if I did I would not have even used it those couple times. Never did I have an unfair advantage or even used windower during competition. Hell, I don't even use it now and I don't have the use of my laptop. SE should allow it to be windowed just like other games. Because instead of an unfair advantage we are actually put at an unfair disadvantage to a lot of players who can access the net outside of the game without using anything. The difference is trying to compete with NON-cheaters, not trying to compete with other cheaters by cheating.

So the whole windower argument means nothing to me. Now, if you can show players that it does give them an advantage then THEY SHOULD STOP USING IT. You think I’m going to make an exception for them? Hell no. It’s not about you. It’s about people using unfair advantages to succeed where otherwise they might not. The difference is that they’re not hackers and do not have your expertise to think that that windower could be giving them a boost. All they know is that it’s supposed to let them access the internet while still in the game. Maybe the FFXI secret hacker community should do something to help instead of exploiting the game to their own benefit.

Actually, my buddies are people like Aldiel and Tisbolo who are against hackers and cheaters. And my end-game shell, before I took a break from FFXI, was BoL which I greatly enjoyed even though I missed my turn to get my item because of my own absences. We played by the rules and weren't always successful. BUT THAT IS THE GAME. Sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose. But if you have to cheat winning is impossible. Where is the victory in claiming against someone using only their timing and you're using AI?

And if real players know they're benefiting from cheaters then that spoils the victory for them too. But how many people know? And you wont even give us all the names you know because you want to protect them. But if us REAL players are getting benefitted and you think its helping us then why not reveal the "heroes"? I don't think they want to be revealed because they know that it's wrong and that real players would not support it. But if you don't give us the opportunity you can't expect us to accept any blame in it. I mean seriously... how are we to know if we can't see it? We might think you're just that good. And a lot of people don't even know who actually got the voke. We just see it red or purple. But its not success just because its red. How you play the game matters. It might not matter to you, and again that's what SINGLE PLAYER games are for, but it does to others who SHARE in the same gaming experience.

The fact is, for all those who cannot tell, that you still defending hacking, advertising it, and promoting it. I'm here to speak to the real players and those that want respect in the Quetz community. Don't cheat. It's that simple. How are we going to stop RMT from wrecking the game if we do it ourselves through cheating or play just as dirty as them? Then they wouldn't even be able to kick off RMT because they'd have no way to separate RMT cheating from your cheating to keep up with them. And to be fair they would have to kick both and lose a lot of money in the process. THAT's why they don't enforce like you want them to. They're hands are being tied when players validate the tactics of RMT by repeating them. You hate the devil but you wanna do what he does? Doesn't work that way. You have become the very element of the game that we hate; a non-player.

And what's sad is that you seem to have a problem with me discouraging cheating when you should be doing the same. Nobody is suggesting that you didn't enjoy cheating. But eventually you got tired of that toy too and all the rest of us are left in a world in which you had a hand in creating. To build a better world we need to go back to the fundamentals and core values of the game; team work and cooperation. That's the only way to take the game back from those who log in but don't really "play" it. If not, you will see the result of "sin" in the game. Imagine a world in which 50% of the Paladins without the core value of self-sacrifice, cheating if they could, to have Utsusemi. Imagine a cheat that could make one shadow last through an infinite amount of hits. It would break the game. How convenient would that be? No xp loss, infinite chains, I don't know how much xp/hr... But what would be the point of playing? This is the fate of FFXI if you continue cheating.

Wow....

Ladies and gentlemen.... this is why FFXI sucks. Just as bad as a gilseller. I hope the next generation of players learn something from this. You gets NO RESPECT if you cheat. That's why the other cheaters in the game don't want you to know who they are.

peace

Stop saying legit players benefit from hacking every day.

Legit players don't need or want hacks, and do just fine.
We get pissed at people who HAVE to cheat to claim.

Legit players that knowingly associate with hackers, and "benefit", are just as full of shit.

Before you spew the same tired bullshit, grow up. You've been selfish for four years. Now piss off.

you do know that aldiel is my friend too right?
and that he used to do assault runs weekley with me where my wife would POS hack the entire run and we would get done in about 30seconds to 1 mintute, and he KNEW we were hacking because he would just zone into the assault zone and stand at the entrance and wait with me.
I used to be the one who would POS hack until the first banning, and even then he knew.
I mean 2nd hand hacking and not knowing is one thing,
and 2nd hand hacking for benefit when you know is another. Ask how he got so many points so fast, ask anyone in Antares who he did assault with all the time.
Just me and my wife will be the answer.
like i said, even your best friends do the things you hate.

nah ive always given and rarley recieved in this game, in the end thats one of the reasons i outed OH/Antares for their selfishness.
and if you dont think you have never benefitted or will benefit from a hacker, its been stated before that it would just be ignorant to think so.
as you have most certainly already have and will again.
its an inconvenient truth that you really cant do anything about. you dont have to be the hacker to benefit.

Nobody benefits from hacking. You are ignorant to think that hacking benefits the game or anyone in it. You are the one that is warped for thinking hacking brings any benefit to this game or the people that play it.

All things being relative, the level of benefit any given individual will see will be more or less the same:
1. In a world completely without hacks
2. In a world where everyone hacks

Problem is, we don't have all hackers or zero hackers. We have some. Most of them stick together. The people that know they are "benefitting" from a hacker in their shell are almost as guilty.

Hacking is just unnecessary. A hacking shell is cheating to get claims. It's an unfair advantage over competing shells that are not hacking. If you played fairly, sure you wouldn't get as many claims, but you also would not be a cheating, selfish asshole ruining the experience for those that play by the rules.

Every person makes a choice. You decided to be a cheating, selfish asshole ruining the experience for those that play by the rules.

He meant you've benefitted item/armor/quest/missions wise prolly.. and if you don't think a hacker hasn't helped you obtain an item, finish a quest, or do a mission or BCNM with you at some point in the game well that's just plain naive thinking. I don't think it's a good think..it's just how things are..and it's doubtful that all hackers know other hackers and that all hackers in a LS are known to hack by the LS.. there's a good bet that most leaders of a LS don't know if one or two of their members hack.. ;\

this is exactly what ive been saying, i mean i couldnt have worded it any better for the ignorant to understand. It was cleared up pages ago and other people have defined it the same as i have. dont read so hard into something that was simply stated, this is exactly what i have been saying.

Actually, I can sorta see what Sneaky is saying here. What I mean is, Everything that is meant to be done in this game is very doable without hacking. And while someone may get something like help, or an item due to hacking, it didn't truely help them, because they didn't actually do anything. It made them lazy/worse players. It deffinately saved them time, but by doing so, probably made what they got with that time worth less to them too. So while there is benefit that can be held in hand, even that is diminished by all that was lost to get it there.

well i guess that could be true for most people, but i was actually a great player, began hacking and stayed just as good. knew my jobs and never had a problem, i dont feel ive lost any playing experience in hacking at all as i played my best with or without the use of hacks

Nobody gives 2 shits about how good you used to be if you had to hack
