DISCLAIMER: These are my opinions, please feel free to disagree with them. ^^

P.S. This all refers to a party setting, not a solo setting. :-P

Galka WAR/MNK (lvl 24+ WAR/NIN if not tanking)
Mithra THF/WAR (lvl 24+ THF/NIN)
Mithra MNK/WAR (lvl 30-59 MNK/THF, lvl 60+ MNK/SAM)
Tarutaru BLM/WHM
Tarutaru WHM/BLM
Tarutaru RDM/WHM (lvl 32+ RDM/BLM)
Galka PLD/WAR
Mithra DRK/WAR (lvl 30+ DRK/THF)
Mithra SAM/WAR
Mithra RNG/WAR (lvl 24+ RNG/NIN)
Mithra DRG/WAR (lvl 60+ DRG/SAM)
Mithra NIN/WAR (lvl 30+ NIN/THF if not tanking)
Tarutaru SMN/WHM
Tarutaru BRD/WHM
Hume BST/WHM

There are two that I'm iffy about. I'm not sure if SAM/WAR all the way would work well, or if SAM/NIN or SAM/THF would work better once SA and Ichi are available. The other that I'm iffy about is PLD/WAR. Basically, I think if you don't have a lot of money to spend, Elvaan is the best choice, but if you do (which I plan to ^^), then I tend to think a Galka PLD/WAR with two Astral Rings would outperform an Elvaan PLD/WAR with any combination of equipment.

Time will tell, however (when my second character reaches 30 and gets PLD)^^.

You should add a "no idea what you are talking about" option to the poll. Hehe ...
Well, I really don't know all that much about FFXI. I have a hume blm, and I plan to sub thf when the time comes, in fact I think I am going to change to thf as main and let blm be sub. But who knows, at the pace I am progressing till will take months.

I'd have to strongly disagree with Galka PLD/WAR. I know a level 55 Galka PLD/WAR with rings and only has around 50-60 MP, its not worth it.

Other than that, I'd have to agree with everything else.

Galka pld's are good and can easily hold the hate! Um.. with astral rings they are +50 MP.. so um.. your 50-60 number is way off.

via stat calculator: galka lvl 55 pld/war would have BASE 91 MP, +50 MP for astral rings and that's (141 MP) pretty respectable.

Now toss in some other options.. like RSE gloves (not much def loss there) and you get another +32 MP bringing you up to 173 MP. That's pretty decent in my book.

In fact, I'm contemplating going PLD soon as galka. PLD isn't a healer, he is a master tanker. They hold hate however they can. Be it from dealing damage, provoke, or cure II/III's on themselves, they hold aggro and they do it well. I don't think a galka if played correctly and geared properly would have any problems being a KICK butt pally.

Now on to the other things.. I don't necessarily agree with your taru bard suggestion. :) Taru's don't get very good mind, but that doesn't matter all that much.. it's their HP I worry about. Bards do draw hate when you get up in levels, especially when you have to hold a linker in sleep, or linkers in sleep. When a sleeper wakes up, which they have to do in order to sleep them again because recasting will just wake them up, you will take a hit or two from the mob. If you are using horde lullaby to sleep many targets, as in BCNM40 giddeous fight, you will get rocked very hard from 8 targets at once and each time they wake up, you will take mega amounts of damage because you need to let them all wake up before you sleep them again.

That is a very particular case I'm talking about, in general I think any race can be good in any job provided the player knows the jobs purpose and handles that task with precision and uses food/equipment to ensure he/she is doing the best they can.

Just another note.. I think it's safe to say that Bard is the least stat sensitive job in the game and any race can perform it with great results and it's great fun! :)

Yes, I agree on the BCNM thing. I watched a video from a BRD's perspective and he got rocked nearly the entire fight. For BCNM, I would prefer a Hume, but otherwise it's all about the Taru baby! ^^

Well, they're probably Phalanx Rings. :) Any Galka PLD at that level who knows what he's doing will have two Astral Rings and the RSE gloves. At level 62 (?) the Serket Ring (twice as good as an Astral Ring) becomes available; it is rare however, so only one can be equipped. Later, at 68 or so, another ring that has identical stats to the Serket Ring can be equipped. Once these are equipped, I believe the RSE gloves can finally be tossed (well, sold/unequipped, etc.; you know what I meant :P). :)

Stat calculators are a wonderful thing. :)

I know I've spent hours at work on them just pondering my options... then I got all crazy with the bard thing.

MAN! your list show no Elvaan's at all!

I know elvaan may not be the best suitable race for most jobs, but my Level 49 DRK Elvaan completely rocks the house! Plus I have a decent amount of MP (158) without any gear that would give additional MP.

So, even though I am in the same LS as you, i would have to strongly disagree with a lot of your list. Also, as a note, my roomate is a Mithra Level 50 PLD/WAR, and his magic abilities, along with his tanking abilities are incredible. I believe the race/job combos are a vastly changing and undefinable list. IT WOULD BE TOO BIG TO PUT ON BOARD..........hehe

:P I've been in parties with Galka WHMs who were awesome; race is a lot less important than subjob and equipment. This was just for fun anyway. ^^

P.S. It would be a lot harder to say the best equipment for each job at each level, so I picked subjob and race. :P

I also have to disagree with Galka's being the ultimate PLD. Then again, this whole which race is the best for what job has been beaten to death lol. Any race would be great depending on your equipment and play tactics. My opinion is ideally, Humes make better overall PLD's. Humes base stat balance makes them ideal due to the fact you can boost certain stats without having to worry about lacking in another area, ie. MP pool / HP pool. To become an effective PLD, MP is crucial to hold hate. Galka's simply dont have enough MP to hold hate 100% of the time. Pre Refresh Galka's and even some cure happy Elvaan will have a hard time at hate management. Taru's make great PLD's in the sense that they could hold hate easily and have the highest HP potential (add cures into the picture) of all races, BUT their Base HP and VIT/STR or lack there of really hurts them. Also, there are times that their cures will be interrupted which messes up the whole HP equation. I can go into greater detail but won't since this is only my opinion. I am a Hume PLD and I have had NO problems with holding hate. I've even held hate from Benedictions many times WITHOUT using Invincible.. lol. I am just basing my opinion on my experiences since many a time, I've had "who holds hate better" contests with a Galka PLD friend of mine and I always beat him 30 seconds into the battle LOL. (Weapon skills party.. not XP)

Alright, I think people are misunderstanding me. So here goes. ^^

There are seven factors that influence which people are invited and which ones are passed over:

Rank
Job Combo
Subjob Level
Equipment
Race
Use of Food
Ability to Play Job

In my opinion, here is their order of importance:

Ability to Play Job
Equipment
Job Combo
Subjob Level
Use of Food
Race
Rank

Let me explain why I think race is not all that important, using PLD as an example.

PLDs need VIT and MP most of all, followed by HP and AGI, then followed by MND, STR, and DEX. CHR doesn't matter unless that Provoke rumor is true, and INT certainly doesn't matter.

Galka: enormous VIT, crappy MP, enormous HP, average AGI, average MND, great STR, and average DEX
Elvaan: great VIT, decent MP, great HP, crappy AGI, enormous MND, enormous STR, crappy DEX
Mithra: average VIT, average MP, average HP, enormous AGI, average MND, average STR, and enormous DEX
Hume: average VIT, average MP, average HP, average AGI, average MND, average STR, and average DEX
Tarutaru: crappy VIT, enormous MP, crappy HP, great AGI, average MND, crappy STR, and great DEX

The Galka obviously only has one downfall: MP. Overcome this, and you have a great PLD. The Elvaan really has no downfalls. Just beef up VIT and MP equally and you are set. The Mithra and Hume could use some VIT, but are more than adequate in the MP department. The Tarutaru is sorely lacking in VIT and HP, but has perhaps even too much MP. Thus, some +VIT rings and Shield Earrings could certainly make an adequate tank.

There. Any race can play any job. :P

Yeah, I agree with a lot of those (though I see a curious lack of THF/SAM at lvl 60+ :P). But like you say, I also agree that any race can play any job equally well. It's just a matter of adjusting for different things. For instance, Faluzure happens to be a kickass BLM/WHM, dispite being an Elvaan (who have pretty crappy INT and MP). All it takes is the ability to play the job right, along with the right equipment and food to make up for any inherent weaknesses.

Faluzure... yeah he is a great BLM. He showed me the power of Tornado back in the day when I did Genkai 1. He was in my LS for a little bit (JP LS "FireBlade") but I haven't seen him online that much. My brother (Ccjsn) is a Level 60 Elvaan Full AF/RSE WHM and is one of the best WHM's I know. Heck, I even have a Galka friend "Dancingtank" who is an AWESOME WHM. You guys are all correct!!! Anyone race can play a job, it just takes great player ability/skill to play it correctly^^.

Galka have "decent Mind", not average. They are tied for 2nd with MND.

:)

But yes, these topics have been so beaten to death.. I've partied with so many odd combinations and I've been the topic of "wierd combinations" many times as well.. but ya know what? Almost every one of those wierd combinations proved they were good at their job.

The only one that sticks in my mind was a galka smn I partied with in qufim and I remember him being kinda slow to get carbuncle in the fight. But now having smn at 11, and have partied once as smn, I realize some of the challenges he faced.. "knowing when the battle will start" and timing your summon to match that. It was a long time ago, so I don't recall exactly how well the puller was notifying us of the pull.. It was my first generation to qufim, so it was back aways..

I've partied with many taru drk's.. a taru pld, taru drg.. taru rng.. they all did well. I've been a whm and smn in party as galka and I think I did very well.. Also, there are plenty of comments about my main job as bard too.
