If you could clone a lost pet, would you?

The clone isn't even perfectly identical, not to mention all clones can fall prey to the same disease due to natural selection not weeding out such weaknesses (Happened several times with cloned plants I believe). Better off with new pet. Always wanted one but never could get one.

50k? Are you serious? 50k for an - excuse me all animal lovers - inferior doppelganger?

I don't think pets should be bought and sold at all. If you want a pet, go to the pound.

Cloning... it has it's merits, but this isn't one of them. This is for excentric old rich assholes who can't get anything but an animal to love them.

Perhaps this is a way of gathering money to do some more research and possibly learn how to clone healthy human organs, in which case, I say let the rich fuckers pay all they want for it.

I must say, if given the chance I'd jump at this to get my old dog back. There are just those bonds that you make with a pet that a new one can never have. I hope we perfect this stuff fast and they open it to the public.

What do you people think on pet cloning? The whole 6th day kinda thing is cool. Repet!

I didn't read any of the other responses.

All I will say is that I would not clone a pet I have had previously. It may LOOK like your old pet, but the personality and temperament may be completely different. If you're going to have an animal that looks the same and acts different, just buy a new friggin animal of the same breed and color lol. No one pet will ever be the same. Nor should anyone expect this out of a clone.

There are SO many pets in shelters that need homes, instead of wasting money cloning, go give a shelter animal a happy home.

IMO very very very little about a person, and most likely about an animal is determined by their simple dna and genetics other than physical attributes...who you are is the product of everything in your entire life. every good bad and seemingly insignificant incident event in your life has moulded you into who you are. they could clone hitler and i guarantee you he wouldn't turn out to be the same person.

If you cloned gizmo he'd just be another new puppy. he'd be just like buddy. It's kind of unfair to buddy the way you're clinging on to gizmo, he's not the same dog, but i think you'll learn to love him just as much as you loved gizmo. you'll like him more when he's out of his puppy phases like teething and pooping inside :D

I would not clone anything, especially after seeing the movie pet cemetery ^^

Maybe consider taxidermy if my man died...well if he died happy

I'd clone Sandra Bullock, so that i could date three of her at the same time.

That would be awesome.

My friends think I'm crazy to think she's hot because there is so much younger hottness in hollywood.

but younger hottness != experience.

when are people ever going to learn? /sigh

If I was going to pick someone from hollywood to clone so I could date (read:fuck) 3 of them at the same time, I think I'd have to go with Alyson Hanigan.

If it was the same pet, with the same quirks, and the same behavior, and the same memories.......

Maybe.

If not.

No.

Why would I want a $50,000 pet that was not my old pet? You could get one much cheaper and would not only act differntly but also look differntly.

Would it freak me out if it was the same pet in every way?

No. Maybe for a little while, but I'd be gratefull after. Too bad they can't do that.

Well I would. Poor old Doogle as a kid I was so mean to that gentle giant. I wish I could see him again I would act so differently towards him. He would never hurt a fly he was a huge cocker spaniel (not fat really big). about the same size as a German Shepard. I was so horrid to him and he would never hurt me, I remember trying to ride him like a horse. I get upset thinking about how i was to him. But I never treat my current dog like that never even think about it. Just wish I could see him again and treat him better. I was a selfish little kid back then....

How has this topic gone this long without a mention of Seymour from Futurama? I always cry when I think about poor Seymour. :(

Worst part of it is that depending on the method used, your cloned pet would be subject to premature aging.

If people would stop thinking of pets as commodities - more people would recognize the value of animal shelters.

I dare every one of you. Go to the pound once or twice a week. Play with the animals. It's so hard to go there and then not get attached to the animals. It pains me that so many are put down because Americans are consumer whores.

I'm gonna have to agree here. Many people really don't realize how hot that chick really is. I didn't believe either until I saw this.

Oh god Rappa why did you have to mention Seymour. ;_; The last 5 minutes of that episode were probably the most heartbreaking thing I've ever seen.

When I was in 4th grade my parents got me a baby parrot from their friend. It was only a couple weeks old and we had to hand feed it. I ended up naming the parrot "Turkey" for what reason, I cannot remember but it was fitting at the time. The shitty part was that I had to get rid of him when I had to move to Guam and the family did not want to put Turkey through months of being quarintined. /sigh I want another parrot now lol, but anyways I would clone that pet. :)
