how about this very common scenario?

9:30pm (absolute bedtime 11:30)
situation: LFG

you get an invite right away and the party is just sitting around;
possibly looking for a 6th member or someone forgot the signet
or everyone is sleeping and waiting for the leader to do something.

by the time this sleepy party wakes up and assigns jobs:
tank , pull, skillchains.......

it could very-well be 10:30 at this point.
I guess that only leaves ONE hour to party.

I agree with the tiny kernal of sanity in your post, Teng.

rephrased: "please don't join a party and leave within 10min
or 1/2 hour"

not to put words in your mouth but I think this is what you
were looking for.

I disagree with this too. If it's 9:30 and I know that Im going to bed at 11:30 and I am not in a group yet, I will go /anon and craft or farm or log off.

Vang soon as you get over Lv60 you will stop posting stuff like this because you will almost always be in a PT that lasts at least 2 hours ^^

The higher your level, obviously, the longer it takes for the entire process.
Finding (or forming) a group, deciding on the lvling spot, and then hoping no-one dies on the way down when someone inevitably aggro's.

All this just to START to try to get some xp. And as anyone past 50 knows,
the glory days of 4 digits tnl are GONE! So if you are pre say.... lvl 40, 2 hrs is more than enough time to make it worthwhile.

But if I had spent 2-3 hrs. just getting a party going, only to have someone leave after the 3rd or 4th mob, I'd be pretty pissed too. But there are always exceptions. i.e. emergency, injury, family etc. I never have a problem when someone has to deal with lifes little suprises, or when they let us know ahead of time how long they can play.

Hmm maybe its just me but my PT's never take longer then 30 mins to organize the perfect setup for what we're doing.

/em prints out this ENTIRE post and leaves it "laying around" for the wife to read.

I have been guilty of PTing for less than 2 hours -_-
My bedtime is 11pm and almost everyday I start to PT around 8pm, which takes a while. I dont really want to PT, but my whm static partner wants to. I ALWAYS get replacement thogh.

LOL...as IF that will help :P Unless they are hooked like you they could never possibly get that you might need to stay for 10 hours so that everyone can get papyrus.

As long as you let people know what your time limitations are when you join the group,
Don't tell them after you join, tell them before. After you are in the party, it is much harder to kick someone without feeling bad.

I'm sorry, I should have phrased it better... I meant that you should tell the person before you accept the party invite, not after. I understand that distinction, and I do always let people know if I think I'm gonna be leaving within two hours.

That being said... why the fuck should it make any difference to you if I put up my lfg flag, providing you're aware of my time limitations when/if you msg me? If you don't like it, don't party with me. To expect that everyone who has their lfg flag up is going to follow all your rules or never party is pathetic... but good luck with your little crusade.

Nice to have all these rules about how long you should expect to party if you accept an invite...how about when you take an invite and the party disbands within 2 fights? Lately in the Crawler's nest I can tell you I've had more parties disband within 2 hours than not..most within the first hour. Yet i've come from farming rented a chocobo for 1000 gil to join this party for 180 xp??? (True story by the way) Don't get me wrong...I don't lfg if I don't have long to play...but by the same token...it should go both ways.

In the party I mentioned above I SPECIFICALLY asked if the party was going to be disbanding anytime soon. We fight two mobs...third pull..puller gets a nasty link..I cast escape and figure we're heading back in. Nope....One member has to "take care" of his girlfriend...he'll be back in a "couple of minutes"...lucky girl  Then a few minutes later he says he's not coming back...then someone else is going to go and poof the party is disbanded before i can type "wtf?"

In my opinion people should be considerate of other peoples' time, gil, expectations...but do I expect it? Not anymore

Dont put up your lfg flag.

That is all.

I take my flag down if I'm running low on time.
I don't party unless I can party for at least an hour (generally it's two though).

And this is why I've been level 43 for the past 3 months. (hopefully will change mid December....)

I also hate getting leadership. Party goes good. Two people leave. Other people are like "I've got to leave in 30, but there's two people seeking. Invite them." Umm.. No. I will not invite those people. Well, let me requalify that. I will inform them my party wants them for about 30 minutes and let them choose from there. However, I generally don't like inviting people for those short amount of times becaue they might have been able to get a longer party.

But this has been an issue for a long time. The time to party issue.

On a side note. Everytime I log into my blm, I have to hide in /anon. I keep getting party invites in pair (two people ask me) and I have to turn them down as I don't like joining just to quit shortly after. But anyways, is there a shortage of blms on the server right now (in that range)?

Apparently this is the only acceptable excuse to disband  according to some guys on this site anyway:

That one I'll allow ^^

Here's the problem: There are four other people in the party besides you and the leader and just because you told the leader, does not mean that the other four are aware. Before you say it, yes it is the leader's fault as much as it is yours. If I am aware of your time limitations, dont worry, I wont invite you (nothing personal).

Seriously think about what Vang wrote. I dont understand why you think this is a personal attack. What Vang says is absolutely true. I can put "but if" and "what if" to any argument, but the root of the problem is still the same.

Essentially this is the EXACT same issue, just from a slightly different perspective.

Also, you can't predict any emergencies that occur anyways. That's probably why they're tolerated more.

I have to go shopping.
I have to read.
I have to study.

Not really time sensitive. (except the shopping which may close on you, but then, shouldn't you have done that before?)

I consider anything with a warning is good too. If I've got to leave in two hours, once an hour and a half is up, I let my party know before hand too that "just to let you know, I've got to head out in 30 minutes"

And when i'm levelling now, I try to put in th emessage... <Experience Party> (or something like that)
<Please Invite Me>
</logout> Insert time.

That way people can search and know when I'm going to be leaving.... at least that's what I'm hoping they'll figure out.

Bullshit. It isn't not the leader's fault as much as the player's fault--it is all the leader's fault. If you've decided to build a party, it's your responsibility as party leader to make sure that either the other party members are ok with the new member's time to play or that you have a replacement lined up. Being party leader means more than just dragging a bunch of strangers together for XP--you need to pay attention to obvious things like job balance, level gap, etc., but also find replacements, often give pointers to people, boot people who need booting, and in general communicate this stuff to the rest of the party. If you (not you specifically, Alanon, general "you") aren't up to it, maybe you should just put your flag up and let someone else run the party.

Damnit! Give me something I can disagree with here!!!

Seriously, I can't disagree with anything Anesly said. It IS the leaders fault. However, when we get through the "feeling out" period, just start to get rolling and then someone says "Ok, time to go!", following it with "but I told the leader during invite!" is not going to relieve the Grrrr factor any less. Is it fair and am I right in how I feel? Probably not, but that is just how I feel and Im willing to bet it is how the majority of people in that situation would feel.

I know that I will get flamed for saying this, but I think that it's just courtesy. 2 hours is a generally accepted time by most I think. Sure, it's different at lower levels where the pool of available players are 5 feet away, and yes it's fine if everyone gets together saying "hey, we all have an hour. Let's have a quick xp session!" My time is just as valuable to me as your time is to you, and disbanding 30 min into a party when the prep time takes twice as long is just....wrong.

And since Anesly brought up leaders, let me say one thing to leaders "Dont lie to me!"

I hate it when Im in San crafting and I get an invite (w/o flag up), I agree telling the leader that my HP is jeuno and to let me know when the party is together and I will warp there. Then 2 min later:
"Come to Jeuno"
"Is everyone there?"
"yup"

--warp to jeuno---
--accept invite ---
--see that I am the 3rd member and we wait another 30 min while the Rdm finishes AF, the Nin leaves his party in CN where he's leveling sub, and we are just waiting on the Sam's Thf friend to log on.....

AMEN!!! I love that...to also include "yes we have a whm"...join group...hmmm no whm in the party list...oh yeah...he'll be here soon...1/2 hour later..still waiting

Hehe, that sound like many of my dates in High School. Which by the way, going home with "Blue Sword" (FFXI equivalent to "Blue Balls) sucks... If someone is close to leveling, PLEASE stay the extra pull or two that it takes for them to level.

I ALWAYS end up staying longer than I'd originally planned...i get into trouble sometimes when i stay for one person to level which has gotten someone else close to leveling...and by then my husband is complaining about his uhhh "Blue Sword" lmao

Dont get all lippy with me cocksucker, you came in here trying to bash my opinion and were shutdown when many came in and agreed.
After watching it all unfold you want to backpeddle on your comments and "rephrase" yourself and then immediately go back to using big bad "swear" words at me.

I was civil after your first post even though i wanted to jump all over it, i knew some other board members would agree. Plus the fact that some of your LS members seem cool I didnt want to get into it. But now, you come back in just trying to stir shit up with me, fuck you scrub, you lose.

"I'm sorry, I should of phrased it better"

What a wimp

Nice try at getting the members all fired up at me again, unfortunately you failed.
