Yah Mistaya, I'm a jerk for putting my real life friends on a higher priority than the strangers I join in parties in a computer game. It so happens that I can only contact my best friend in between the time I leave FFXI and go to bed. And 5 minutes is not an awful lot of time to be chatting.

Ok. I was nice. Even though EVERYTHING YOU SAID has just i dunno made you sound like a complete asshat i was nice. I agreed with you. I listened to you. But this is it im done go to hell.

If your real life friend is more important than your ffxi for the night THEN GO HANG OUT WITH THEM OK. If they are far away or in another country or some bullcrap then go talk to them on the phone or do whatever it is you two do together. You obviously have no respect whatsoever for anyone else playing this game. Its a single player game with the inconvienience of having other people to 'deal with' to you. You fake being nice by giving a warning but then you come on the boards and admit the only reason you do so is to not look like an ass in game well sir you have surely, SURELY made yourself look like an ass on these boards.

But its ok because its just a game.

Again i repeat, giving a warning is nice, but you sure sound like an ASSHOLE in your posts. I dont know why you took personal offense at anything i said i guess you just want to argue or maybe feel guilty.

MY free time is just as valuable to me as YOURS is to YOU. If you ruin 5 other peoples free time because YOURs is more important then YOU ARE AN ASSHOLE. A selfish one to boot. All we are talking about is 15 lousy minutes to finish up someone with less than 1ktnl.

That brought a tear to my eye, VERY well put Mistaya

I love the assholes that leave without warning with the "I have a real life issues or I have a life I cant play all day" bullshit. Like the 5 others in their party are complete losers with no RL friends or problems of their own.

No Lion unlike your dumbass they just KNOW HOW TO MANAGE their time better. Stop being such a selfish jackass or dont play at all.

Funny... I don't see where I actually ruin their time. I'm actually playing for streaks of 3 hours, with one hour left for anything that might come up. The way I'm understanding your posts, that one extra hour that I keep in reserve is not left to my own discretion, and should be consecrated without any hesitation to furthering the exp. gain of the party I join. I usually start feeling tired at 10:00pm, but I sometimes end up playing up to 11:00pm because I enjoy certain parties. And that ends up eating in my sleeping time, thus ending up groggy at work the next morning. But if I had fun, then it's worth it.

If someone is less than 500 tnl, and we're chaining pretty well for 120-150 xp a kill, then I don't see any problems with staying around. THAT IS WHY I HAVE A 1-HOUR RESERVE INSTEAD OF A 15 MINUTES ONE! But if we're in an overcamped location, gaining between 60-100 xp a kill, and you'd want me to stay until we get through a chain of 800tnl-1400tnl-2000tnl, then you have to be kidding me.

Saying there's a 1000tnl-staying rule is poking yourself in both eyes. You're probably thinking that the rule applies in most party situations. Most of your party situations most likely, maybe also post-50. But in that 20-45 range I'm hanging in right now, that's pure absurdity.

And the reason I'm being so assy about this is that, in essence, whenever someone complains about being close to a level, all I hear is "You're playing this game in my service, not for your own benefit." I hear selfish demands. I'm RARELY asked what my tnl is when someone else is about to leave. VERY RARE INDEED!!! I usually *DO* ask others what their tnl is when I'm about to leave. Either that or I leave at the same time someone else does. Yes, I am using the fake pretence that I can only play another 10-15 minutes when I have a full hour still available, but I like making someone's day by "overstaying".

Call it deceptive, call it being an asshole. But I *VERY MUCH COULD UP AND LEAVE WITHOUT GIVING A DAMN ABOUT IT*!!!!! WHY IS IT YOUR BUSINESS IF I'M GOING STRAIGHT TO BED OR NOT!!!!!!!

Thats actually a very smart idea i usually say '20 min warning' when i really have a bit more. An hour might be too much

Okay, my sincerest apologies. I didn't explain that one hour bit well enough.

The hour I'm talking about is an hour where I can either play some more FFXI, or go about chatting with friends online. It swings one way or the other. It's not an hour that is FFXI dedicated time that I take away from other players. I think that's where we both got confused. I really thought you were telling me that since I had another hour potentially available, it should be absolutely spent in FFXI, or else I'm "cheating" a group from one extra hour of partying they never really had. Thus where all my angst stems about wanting my own hour for myself.

I don't work on a clockwork schedule. Heck, look at the time at which I'm posting now! I finished playing FFXI at 10:30pm, but ended up chatting with a friend I haven't seen on or offline in a long while. I'm gonna suffer tomorrow from lack of sleep, but all in all, I really appreciated my evening.

I got blinded by anger, and twisted what you said thinking the bold part was meant as a threath to my usage of my free time. I'm really sorry about that.

Yup, cant argue with OP on this.

If you don;t have the time for some serious xp sessions post-50 then you shouldn't be looking for group. It is a pretty simple concept. I wouldn never goto an amusement park just to spend 10 minutes and buy a hotdog, just as I would never log on and put flag up to join a group for anything less than 2 hours.

Admitedly, there are some cercumstances where this doesn't apply, which I wont name, but it cant be that hard to determine how much play time you have for the night.

PS: As RDM I have spent over 3 hours before waiting for a replacement for myself to show up on the search for RDM. I wouldn't expect that out of everyone, but I just can't imagine every single WHM has emergencies at the frequency they seem to. If so, forget being a WHM, my personal life couldn't take the grief they tell me they go through.

That is all.

o hes a good one, PPL HAVE LIVES UNLIKE YOU!!!! .... sumone needs a life and im lookn at you vang

All I have to say is that I find it funny as hell for ANYONE playing FFXI to call anyone else a loser or to say "Unlike you, I have a life"

yeah, okkkkkkkk

You have spent literally HUNDREDS OF HOURS in this game, how cn you justify YOUR "life" to another person? you are just as addicted as they are.

Hmm that means that u should stop seeking two hrs before u are suppose to or.... i dont get it.Most of the times ppl lose level and then seek for party and as soon as they get their level they leave without getting a replacement.

My honest opinion about this topic when it comes down to it, is that if you take the game this seriously, you need to find yourself a static of people who take the game just as seriously. DONT FUCKING EXPECT everyone who plays this game to be as down into it as you are, even if they are higher level players. As hard to believe as it is, some people play this game just to fuck around in, don't really think you need to do any of the shit that you guys are mentioning here.

If you guys are that ignorant as to think that everyone should play this game as fucking seriously as you do then you've got your head pretty far up your ass.

Threads like this make me laugh ^^

Panda...I don't know you and I'd hate to start off on the wrong foot, but when you need 20,000 or more exp to level up, 2 horus isn't that much time....even the best of PTs are only gonna get about 5k exp an hour...This game is a time sink, it's not WoW. XD
I love flamming that game! FFXI requires some real dedication, if you just like fucking around...pick up BST.

We are speaking of considering the other five people in the group. You are out for yourself. Who has their head up their ass?

People like this make me cry >.<

No, you got it all wrong. I like pick up PTs...I like meeting new people, most of my friend list is people I've partied with before...I don't expect everyone to take the game seriously, but I do expect them to have some concideration...Every character you see in game has a real person behind them, who's also paying to play, I don't want my time wasted, they don't wanna waste their time. And we're not talking dunes/qufim/jungle here, I'm thinking of levels 45+ where you really need to buckle down with a PT for a few hours...once you pass a certain point, exping for 40mins won't cut it.

Strange... Panda says there will always be players who won't be serious about the game.

Next thing you know, people immediately associate Panda with that crowd, without ANY KIND OF PROOF that he would be joining and leaving PTs on a whim.

He stated a hard cold fact. FFXI is a game, and people will take it as seriously or as lightly as they want.

Well concidering Panda is getting agitated by what we're saying, and then defending people who don't take the game "seriously" it's easy to group him/her with them...

Or maybe he's like me and, in spite of having the upmost respect for other players when he joins a PT, he can't help but cringe whenever someone sets a blanket standard that everyone should follow, or go die somewhere deep in Behemoth's Dominion.

and the reason i say that, let me clarify myself, is because i get just as frustrated as you guys do. I take this game pretty seriously myself, and when I log on, I'm on for at least four hours at a time if I'm going to level. I dont seek for a party or get one together unless I know I have time to dedicate to teh game. I just think that its unfair to think that every single person who plays this game should be just as dedicated to it as you are - or that ffxi should be the most important thing in a persons life if they're playing. shit comes up, shit happens, and you just need to learn how to deal with it. when people leave a pt quickly it pisses me off just as much as it does you guys, i just dont think that its right to assume that every person who plays this game is as serious about it as I am. for me when it comes down to it, its a game, and you just have to learn to deal with some shit that comes along with MMO's, and this is one of those things.

for example:
i was in a pt last night and we were going great, and the blm and rdm left after 30 mins, for whatever reason. it fucking SUCKS. three of our static members were MIA that night but had previously said it was ok to lvl without them because we were all pretty far from lvling.

I simply suggested getting a static together of people who are just as dedicated to the game as you are and have enough time to dedicate to the game as you do. Getting a random party is always a risk - there are always going to be downs associated with them - one of them is someone having to leave, another one is having someone who really sucks (like jarak, he is a shitty paladin). Having a static party reduces those risks, if not completely eliminates them. And if you've got enough time to dedicate to this game as you say you do, and if you're as serious about the game as you say you are, then you should have no problem getting together a decent static party to help you reach your goals. Its just like lending people gil - dont count on random players to be everything you want them to be. Its just common sense to me.

Mud slinging and talking shit abotu someone having to leave a party because of something IRL is just childish, IMO. We all have real lives to deal with.

I never said that....I don't think that a "Be like us or die" mindset is in place. I'm just saying once you reach a certain point in the game, you're required to PT for longer amounts of time, and therefore, out of respect for your fellow players (be they hardcore or casual) you should be abel to dedicate a decent chunk of time to exp, and not say "fuck it, I pay for the game, i'll do what I want!"
Newsflash! It's not about a single person, I think a lot of people miss the fact that you play with other real people, if you wanna be in complete controll go play a standard RPG.
