If you dont have AT LEAST 2 hours...

Hmm maybe its just me but my PT's never take longer then 30 mins to organize the perfect setup for what we're doing.

I think I just may have had some bad luck T.T

Maybe, it could be just because Im BLM and Im usually one of the final people that get asked to join a PT? I dont know...

But at the same time the times Ive helped build a PT it never seemed to take that long (however I wont attempt to build a PT if when I do a /sea all inv... etc etc there isn't sufficient jobs/ppl).

I fall into the "Tell them your limit and let them decide if they want you" camp. Sometimes parties aren't going to mind because they're on the verge of breaking up anyway and just want a replacement to nudge someone over a leveling hump. Every situation is different, so communication is important.

I'm like Veresko in that I only go for xp on the weekends. Sunday's are wide open, and I can level for a few hours without interruption if I want. Every other day is for farming and questing and helping other people.

Vang: Obviously anything I say to clarify my original position will be seen as "backing down", so I guess there's no point in trying, though I've never changed my mind and I still think what you said was dumb, no matter how many other people agree with you... as for trying to intimidate you with the word fuck... I had no idea that word was so scary to you. If I had, I'm sure I would have been more careful with using it.

alanon: I didn't take it as a personal attack.. how could I? I just think it's ridiculous to expect everyone with a flag up to have AT LEAST two hours to party. Maybe in much higher levels that's how it is - I don't know, cause I'm not level 60 (as pointed out so eloquently by GhostinmyShell) but for "lower" levels, I think that expectation is silly and unrealistic.

For the dunes, 30 min pt is a lot!
Eh...

Seriously post about 45ish~ party formation becomes extremely strict.

You need:
tank
healer
refresh<----------------------THIS IS THE KEY
damagex3

See that refresher? thats why party formation after this time takes 30mins to an hour AFTER the first person is invited. There are only 2 jobs that can do this, RDM and BRD and those are rarely seeking. And if they are the healer is missing, or no tanks available...

If your party takes an hour to form and you only had 2 hours to play your down to an hour already... Sucks but true. Before the refresh comes into play you can get away with a lot more combinations and forming is a lot faster and easier.

Theres a lot of pressure on a leader as he frantically looks for more people. He/she knows that the current members (especially the hard to find refresher, since they KNOW they can get another party) will bail if it takes too long to find others. Whats awful frustrating as a leader is someone announcing 2 kills into a site that they are tired and need to leave. WTF couldnt you have told me this before? Its always the one guy you need too >:( If the person came in saying they have x amount of time and the party knows this thats fine.

Also people who leave when someone is <1000 tnl (post kazhm) are assholes. Sorry you really really are. Unless someone is bleeding on the floor you can stay awake for five more kills you bastard.

Because of that attitude, I'm always saying that I'm leaving one hour prior to when I *really* have to leave. So if I *have* to leave at 11:00pm, I say I can only party up to 10:00pm. That gives me enough slack for those "but I'm about to level" pleas of endless despair.

If you want to complain to me that I'm not giving it my all by devoting all *my* free time to *your* exp. gain, then fuck off.

So people who don't have a full two hours (from the time they get into the group, I'm assuming) aren't allowed to level? That's fucking ridiculous. As long as you let people know what your time limitations are when you join the group, then it's their problem, not yours.

This is just my opinion but I feel it's rude to join the party and THEN say you don't have a full 2 hours or more. You should tell the person who sends you the tel that you are on a time limit, and then it is their decision if they want to mess with trying to replace you or not. By the time the party is put together with 6 people, then you decide where to go to fight, then get to camp, yada yada you could only have about an hour left and then you have to leave only to start the whole process over again. That isn't right either.

I would never join a party if I didn't have a minimum of 2 hours to play. It's not only wasting your time but more importantly the other party members.
I agree Kat but some people have some tight time restrictions, I personaly do not but I around 2 O'-clock have to start watching the clock and waiting for the call from my fiance on when she will be home, sometimes it take 3 hours or more and it's not 5 or later till she is home, but everyone is unieqe and I don't think people should be excluded just cuz they have an hour and half and not 2 hours to roll XP, but thats just my take especially when they find replacements

Thats actually a very smart idea i usually say '20 min warning' when i really have a bit more. An hour might be too much :shock:

I always give atleast an hour warning (and 1/2 hour, and 15 min) if I know I have to log - and I try to find a replacement, but if I can't...that should be ample time for a leader to figure things out. If they choose to ignore it, you can't be held responsible.

We're still talking about *my* free time. What I do between 10:00pm and 11:00pm is my business. If I prefer chatting with my best friend, or playing some Katamari Damachi over perpetuating a party, it's my choice. I'm already busting my ass off to get into FFXI prior to 7:00pm so I could have a good, solid 3 hours of gaming ahead of me, with an extra one if I feel like it. I often don't.

In short, free time <> FFXI time in my case.

What if everyone just had juices? (expensive but would that be possible to replace the refresher if necessary?)

Palum it works to an extent, but the 'refresher' also comes packaged with dispel, something no juice can do.

In one instance i formed a party and we killed rabbits on terrigan with just juices. (no dispel needed) it was harsh... would rather never do it again. Juices dont stack and you need several materials plus crystals to make them so theres so much downtime synthing and then when you run out your screwed :(

Basically no refresh/dispeller limits you to things that dont buff and most things that dont buff(defensive) do a lot of damage(offensive) which causes the healer to burn more mana... Its a viscious circle.
~~~
Flaru you seem like you treat your parties nicely by giving them the hour warning but you sure sound like a jerk when you put it that way.
This is my opinon. I personally always keep track of the time on which i have to leave everyday. so i usually find a party when i have atleast 5 hours left. But sometimes in the middle of the party i have to leave cuz of RL stuff. Things can happen unexpectedly thats life. So i dont know why people would have to complain about it. the only thing i hate is when they join your party and when they think it's dumb they just leave without warning then you have to wait longer to start getting xp and could sometimes lead up to the party breaking -_-
:evil: :evil: :evil: STUPID NONSTACKING JUICES! ARGH! !#@$@#$!$!#@$!$
The thing with juices--they don't stack, so you either need a lot of free inventory space, or fewer inventory slots but ingredients, a cook, and downtime for synthing.
*wanders off mumbling something about things that don't stack*
Yah Mistaya, I'm a jerk for putting my real life friends on a higher priority than the strangers I join in parties in a computer game. It so happens that I can only contact my best friend in between the time I leave FFXI and go to bed. And 5 minutes is not an awful lot of time to be chatting.
There is NOTHING worse than someone comming into a party and in 15 mins, after they level mind you, saying Oh I gotta go.
As much as I think that Vang can be a bit abrasive...I will agree that you should be able to party for more than 1 hour...its takes time to get into a groove and then finally raking in xp, someone says I gotta go and jets...that sucks...no one likes it when it happens to them, so why do it to someone else?
I agree with this. Stupid nonstacking juices, I hope this is one of the foods that ends up being stackable. But I am a 45 level cook so I carry four stacks of pineapples and two stacks of water crystals whenever I got level. So if it doesn't break on me, that'd be 24 juices. I generally make them when I'm waiting for the party to set up... what pisses me off is when they disband before levelling and I'm stuck with half my inventory as juices!
You CAN work around not having a RDM in the 40s and the 50s, it is doable in a more cannon party setup. We had a ninja, THF, 3 rangers and me the WHM. We had to be getting 5-6kish exp an hour, I was eating Hobgoblin choclate, had Dark Staff, and ahd seers tunic. That added +16 MP a tick in adition to my 5-6ish clear minds. RDMs are not necessary just very nice, especialy with the MP hogs that are BLMs and with melees who could not hit the broadside of a crab once it uses its buff thingy...
Trust me, it wasn't your ability to work around not having refresh that made that party still work. 8) Any party with 3 rngs is going to get insane exp regardless of what else is in the party. Throw in a nin and it simply becomes insane. I remember seeing tales of nin + 4 rng + 1 blm who just went through everything. The main thing that makes refresh needed is when you have a pld tank or several blms.
Hey Chanin 5s damn near full MP? Works for me. Chain sixes are a royal bitch to get though... there where not enough mobs where we were camping.
Ok. I was nice. Even though EVERYTHING YOU SAID has just i dunno made you sound like a complete asshat i was nice. I agreed with you. I listened to you. But this is it im done go to hell.
If your real life friend is more important than your ffxi for the night THEN GO HANG OUT WITH THEM OK. If they are far away or in another country or some bullcrap then go talk to them on the phone or do whatever it is you two do together. You obviously have no respect whatsoever for anyone else playing this game. Its a single player game with the inconvienience of having other people to 'deal with' to you. You fake being nice by giving a warning but then you come on the boards and admit the only reason you do so is to not look like an ass in game well sir you have surely, SURELY made yourself look like an ass on these boards.
But its ok because its just a game.
Again i repeat, giving a warning is nice, but you sure sound like an ASSHOLE in your posts. I dont know why you took personal offense at anything i said i guess you just want to argue or maybe feel guilty.
MY free time is just as valuable to me as YOURS is to YOU. If you ruin 5 other peoples free time because YOURs is more important then YOU ARE AN ASSHOLE. A selfish one to boot. All we are talking about is 15 lousy minutes to finish up someone with less than 1ktnl.
