I'm in high school. These are the types of jobs I do. And sadly, I'm competing with a lot of illegal immigrants, especially out in constructions sites and restraunts. What really pissed me off about one of my jobs (dish washer at a Japanese Hibachi Grill Restraunt... go figure) was that they tried to work me like I'm not in school. I don't mind doing these "undesirable" jobs, but when you don't pay too well and want me working every day from 17:00 to 1:00, just hire another high school student who will alternate shifts with me. Problem solved.
 
Immigrants I'm fine with so long as they go through the process and have a desire to be come American. Includes learning our language, culture, history, etc. I don't want the process of becoming American to be easy. I want people to prove that they belong here...

Illegal immigrants shouldn't be here. They should never have been employed here in the first place. If you really want to spend the rest of your life in America, APPLY. 13 months should be meaningless if you really want to become a citizen of the US.

The law definitley need to be tighter on illegals. In particular the case of Mexico, but also in other locations. They don't belong here if they're unwilling to respect our process of law.

With the state of our economy now, I'm sure that the jobs held by former illegal immigrants would be filled. That would most likely never be an issue, at least for the current status of the US economy.

Illegal immigrants are OK, if they're here for a limited time, say, for a visit for a few months. But I personally believe they should try to get a greencard if they plan to stay here and raise their children or want a chance at an opportunity. Everyone believes in the American Dream, but how many of us achieve it? Big house, beautiful car, beautiful wife, three kids who are healthy and happy....
I hate the fact that people automatically walk up to me and ask me stuff in Spanish. I don't care if I look hispanic or not, a lot of parents nowadays do not teach their children their language. (And I'm not hispanic, btw). It's rude, and I hope they feel really retarded when I say "No speako Spanish." I live in New York, and I don't even live in the city.

Actually, what we should do, as other nations have done, is to get rid of illegals, and deny welfare and other govt programs to those who refuse to take the jobs that are offerered to them.

If you are unemployed in Germany, then you will be offered jobs through the govt run job center. Once you refused three jobs in a row, your benefits are eliminated. They try to match your skill set and education to available jobs, but if that is not possible, then you will actually see Ph.D. types mowing lawn, and they do, because if they don't the govt simply abandons them.

While unemployment in Germany is very high, long term unemployment isn't.

I think that if they try to come here and stay they should get their shit right, and do it the legal way, since they're living here and working here, they should have to do all the same shit we do, it's not exactly fair when they come across and work for a week, and go back for a bit, and repeat, w/o paying taxes, w/o anything that we have to do to live here... but that's my opinion, and I can't wait to see how many people tell me how 'unfair' their lives are... go ahead

Last night NBC ran a piece about illegal immigration breaking down the industries with the highest per cent of illegal workers. The highest was dry wall out of the construction business where nearly 1 in 4 workers were illegal. Sound high? Flip the numbers around. 75% of these workers are legal. And people make excuses that these are the jobs no one wants? That argument simply fails.

The fact is, even if you were to tax illegal workers, they would still cost American taxpayers billions of dollars every year in health care and welfare costs. Much of money illegal workers make is sent back to their home countries so it never becomes recycled in our economy.

I realize English is not the official language of the US but it is the language our country was founded on and the language our laws are written in. Having said that, I simply cannot tolerate people coming here and not assimilating with our society (learning the language, etc.). If I ever move to a non-english speaking country, I will go out of my way to learn that language as well as their culture. That fact is, many illegal immigrants are not doing that and that is unacceptable.

I'm fairly certain if roles were reversed and the US ecomony was struggling, where millions of Americans were illegally entering any other country for work, those citizens would have a problem with it. Why should legal citizens of this country have to tolerate it?

Don't even get me started with the Aztlan movement. Google that and see what you find....

According to rones, that's why the rich need to pay less taxes. So they can put more money into the economy. If they can't find money to spend on cheap labor here, they can find it elsewhere. It won't make wages for bluecollar workers change either way. That guy that hands you your food at McDonalds™ is gonna make the minimum amount of money they can legally pay him no matter what.

You are forgetting a key element. These illegeals are working jobs that can not be exported over seas (such as dishwashing, picking fruit, landscaping). How would I off shore getting my lawn mowed or re-roofing a house? These minimum wage, 'dirty' jobs can't be exported. If they could, they would have already. Tyson HQ and processing plant is near where I live and they are massive employers of Hispanic immigrants, legan and illegeal. They are here because this is where the chickens are grown they sell. Do you think they would off shore their processing plant to China which would require them to ship the chickens to bird flu ground zero and then ship them right back after being processed? This is just one of many examples.

These blue collar workers, such as McDonalds workers you mentioned, are working jobs that can't be exported. What would happen is the supply curve would shift left due to a gradual shortage of labor such as shown here:

Prices of those basic services would increase some, demand would decrease some, and a new equilibrium would be formed. A key point though, is wages for those jobs would increase, and the primary users of those low wage, blue collar servicers are middle and upper class. Wages would be forced to increase to fill the demand, there is no way you can deny that. Thus, wage differences between all classes would decrease exactly like you always claim to want in our other threads.

This would do exactly what you have been asking for in all your threads in the past. This would help the legal lower class citizens of the US. The illegeals take money out of our economy in the form of government benefits they didn't pay taxes for and money shipped back to Mexico.

If you stay in America for a few years (I believe its 6- 8) then you are considered a citizen, does that make you legal? Does that automatically give you a gcard and permit you to travel and come back? NO.

And Ellemire if you still for some reason think that people can just apply for citizenship if they abide by their Visa, then you're terribly wrong. You need to have a permanent residence card (green card) or have a family member who is in the US army to attest for you to file an application.

I know people who came here legally, stayed after Visa expired, and do everything a god damn american citizen does. They work hard to feed their family, put them through college, pay all of their taxes, keep a cleaner credit history than any typical American can, all that stuff. Those are the people I am sticking up for. I am not sticking up for the idiots who think they can come here and be rich in a few months of car washing.
