BLU > RDM
'nuff said. Hell, WHM > RDM as well. I'm sure DNC > RDM in terms of melee as well, seeing as DNC most likely won't have any natural MP, and thus isn't a battle mage. They're more along the lines of COR melee-wise, but more dependant on TP.
I'll say A- or B+ skill.
RDM isn't a battle mage. Its a friggin' mage. There's nothing battle about them. BLU is a battle mage.

The difference is, SE kinda F*cked up on making a melee/mage hybrid out of RDM, then got it right on BLU, decided RDM was fine where it was, which I would say it arguably is, and left it at that. Higher melee skill is nothing but a perk for us, especially since we don't use it for much.
QFT, but lets not go too far, lol. Nothing below a B skill, and nothing higher than a B+ lol.

If by battle mage you mean pussy with a sword, yeah. RDM melee damage is pathetic, considering yourself a "battle mage" is just retarded when your melee is as laughable as it is. You don't kill shit, you just outlast it.

would agree with this they should have gave rdm 269 sword and vorpal blade, but won't now because we are considered over powered as is.

bah blu or whm can't touch rdm in ballista yes it might take us longer to kill a mob, but i'd like to see blu kill half as many mobs as rdm (that not including mobs we have to nuke bind nuke) RDM>BLU just we miss alot more

With different melee gear rdm can actually get TP with sword, i 'm guessing like 4x slower than a thf though. But lol savage blade.
It's a bit better with dagger because evisceration is ok, but w/o sneak attack or dancing edge/shark bite dagger is meh. I wouldn't go as far as saying whm>rdm though ... Sure Hexastrike is cool but club is like a dagger with a slower delay than a sword.
But for sure PUP > rdm, and with whm or BLM puppet you are a melee mage.

They are a hybrid of black and white magic, not melee and magic, because their melee is shit. Hell, by your "definition" my WHM is a battle mage, even a better one than RDM, because I actually have B+ skill with it and I get the best WS for it. Just because you have the ability to melee doesn't mean you're automatically good at it.

I was talking WHM > RDM and BLU > RDM in terms of weapok skill, not in terms of what we can kill and solo.
BLU can solo exp faster then RDM. RDM can solo harder things then BLU.
As for Ballista, a BLU can actually kill a RDM rather easy.
