Is raising prices of items that bad !?

Since you're curious, My main craft is Woodworking and it's at 69 at the moment. Now, i'm sure there's going to be the part about calling me a crafting noob and how my craft is "so much easier and cheaper" than your own. When the reality is that I'm crafting slowly, partially due to money and partially due to the availablilty of materials. I've been leveling woodworking since I started this game, because I wanted to be a rng in the worst way when I first started.

I'm not assuming this is your only source of income, but this is the only one you're complaining about; anything else is irelevant. As I said before, if you don't like the profit/risk potential of this synth, just do another. You still have YET to answer why because you're doing a voluntary synth, one which you're just now admitting isn't the only thing you do for money, gives you the right to inflate the price to consumers by 1200%. You obviously don't like how much money you make off an NQ, so make something else with a better profit/risk ratio like everyone who understands how to make money does.

Finally, as for you wanting to bring this up the next time i over price something at the AH. Have fun waiting. I never overprice anything, I always undercut a little to help my stuff sell faster.

First you lecture me about things but you can't even talk.
Exuses are like assholes everyone has em no one wants to hear them.

Second the reason people raise prices is because prices crash becuas idiots like you continiously undercut.

Third you must have a selective memory and selective hearing problem because I have clearly stated I am makeing these to shoot for HQ's for myself and my friends and people who are smart enough to understand things should be sold for what they cost to make!

Fourth Despite giveing examples of other things it's irrelivant. You say I'm whineing and complaining, yet the only one I hear complaing is you about how "greedy" I am for not wanting to loose gobs of money on NQ synths, and how I'm sticking it to the consumer. If your lvl 68 and you can't afford 130 K there is something wrong with you!

In the end I don't need to justify myself to you. Disagree with me all you want your still wrong. I made this thread to find out why people like to see crafters loose soo much money. I found my answer it's because people like you have their head up their ass and can't tell what is up or down, and try to lecture me on how I should run my buisness. No matter how much you dislike it you can't stop me.

Listen everyone, if he is artificalliy inflating the price, it will drop, and drop hard. People tried to do this with the warwolf belt. The price was at like 100-200K, and then next thing you know, there are like 20 belts on the AH. I watched the price fall, and got one for 20 k.

The same will happen here IF there isn't demand for it. If there is demand for it at 100 K, then he's not artificially jacking the price.

And just as I predicted, you write off everything just because I'm not 100 in some craft. Obviously I couldn't possibly have done synths at a loss at all, let alone lose money trying to HQ something, so I couldn't possibly know what you're talking about. No one understands the pain and suffering of losing money like you do!

Now that the sarcasm is out of the way, I'd like to thank you for proving my point of you not having the guts to eat a NQ when you're going for an HQ. The majority of the time when people are just trying to crank out HQ's, they sell the NQ's for less just to get rid of them, because flooding the market means prices decrease. If you were good at crafting/business, you'd be able to make enough money from other synths to pay for some NQ loses. You say you're making the HQ's for people who are smart enough to understand your position, but somehow I doubt that you would have given an HQ to me if I had agreed with your price gouging.

I'm sorry for not wanting to blow all my money to powerlevel my craft to 100 when I can't even do it because of a lack of materials. There's not much I really want that I can't make now at 69, so there's no reason for me to shoot to 100 as fast as I can.

Edit: Actually, there is something I want. I want to sign my own Dark and Light staves, but I'm going to eat the 700k or so loss for those 2 synths, and that's assuming no breaks and without whining about it.

My undercutting very rarely actually effects the prices on an item. When I list an item worth 100k, and put it up for 99,500; that's never going to tank the price to 50k. I'm undercutting to sell a little faster, not change the price. I'm still never overpricing items, which is solely based on greed.

And now you've turned to the classic "you disagree with me so you're not smart enough to understand" tactic for failing at arguing. I know you want NQ's to sell for a lot, I understand why; but they don't so deal with it. You say I've got my head up my ass, when in reality I don't try to gouge the buyer. I don't like to see crafters lose money, but at the same time, it's a necessity. If you want to craft with zero loss and zero risk, go play WoW where crafting is a total joke.

If Yoshindor is wrong, the price will drop back to normal because his asking price was more than anyone thought was fair. If the prices remain at the new level he set, then Yoshindor isn't a bad guy, but just a good businessman. Whether he's justified or not will all depend on whether he's successful or not, like pretty much everything else in life. As to whether he'll be successful or not, the odds are in his favor. People tend to be willing, if not eager, to blow much more gil than something is worth on everything they need. Buy it now, complain about the price later. That seems to be the FFXI motto. It has two benefits. First, it ensures the price remains at the high price one wasn't willing to pay. Second, those high prices allow us to later complain about "inflation" - a pasttime second only to EXP parties in popularity amongst FFXI gamers.

It seems to me that most things in the game never sell for what they cost to make. Its just a fact. Ive lvl'd Goldsmithing into the 50's now and you just have to accept a loss in most cases if you dont go out and farm your own raw materials. If it was as easy as "gee ill go buy the rm from the ah, synth an item, put it back up and make money" then everyone would be doing it. Sorry, yosh but I cant agree with tryin to jack the prices up. Your certainly not the only one though, and a certain amount of corruption is inevitable. If it works for you, then more power to ya. Im not judging. Just saying i wouldnt do it.

Although I dont like expensive items I cant really blame Yosh here. He's wasting money putting stuff on AH which costs a bit because if no one bought it it just be returning to his mog box.
It's the ppl who are actually buying it who are agreeing with the price jack. Why is everyone ranting on yosh rasing prices to his choice, if you dont like it dont buy it. There are several Smithers that can create the same thing at a certain point no?
There have been several times when im trying to craft, and when needing material, some costing 5-6k, some ppl may have the price 5-10k over that. I say screw it, i'm not gonna waste so much money when I can just wait a day or two till i can get it at a cheaper price. Well thats what I think anyway.

If people pay the price he is asking, then thats what the item is worth.
Plain and simple.

plz dont raise sirens hair. :(

and on a side note, this thread is hilarious since yoshindor was the one bitching about people raising prices before in the flameboard. hahaha. oh well.. if you cant beat them, join them i guess eh yosh?

honestly i wish the prices of nq would go up maybe then the prices on hq would go down. Also near dead classes like leathermakeing would rise from the grave because it would be profitable agian. the amount of money you spend to get meterials to the amout of money you make is insane. Only certain items come out ahead ie- sneak pots. This is not greed it is wanting to make money doing something they work hard to skill up, just to reach the top to find out that there is no money in it because people rise the price in materials.:rtfm:

if there was more profits in craft everyone would benifit in the in. The person who craft would make more money. The person who farm materials for people would make more money. The person who currently has armor and want to sell it back to ah make more money. so riseing prices is reasonable just try keep the hq in a range that is resonable to. look at the wind staff compare to it hq. it jumps from 14k <major loss for crafter> to 4.5 mil <major gain for crafter> I would like to see the nq staffs go to about 700k -1 mil and the hq come down to about 2-2.5 mil that aresonable price considering there lvl 75cap woodworking and the wind bead runs ruffly 600-700k

I say raise them. If people are still buying and the supply is still low, then you are certainly not raising them above market value. I find it humorous how some people in this thread chide Yosh for raising the price, then turn around and in the SAME POST, chide others about dropping prices on farmed crafting materials. I love the attitude of "don't you dare raise the price of the finished goods, and don't you dare complain about the price of crafting materials!"

Seriously, if you peeps what crafted goods to sell for less, try getting the prices on the materials to come down. I mean everything too, all the way down to the crystals. If you are going to continue to raise the price of crystals and other goods, don't complain about the price off finished goods.

I had a friend the other day, patting himself on the back about farming a boatload of beehive chips, and offloading them for 15k/stack. An hour latter, this same guy was bitching in LS chat about the cost of silent oils! "All crafters are bloodsuckers!! BLAHBLAHBLAH" I could only smile....

It also cracks me up when I read these threads where people feel sorry for the Xbox newbs because of the economy. Are you kidding me? Hell a level 1 character in windy is probably going to have 1/2 a mil before they hit the dunes! That and most low level armor is still NPC bought, so it has remained the same! 4k for wind crystals, 50k for silk, 5k for rabbit hides? Helll I used to not sell my wind crystals till the weekend so that I could get the prime rate of 1400 a stack! Rabbit hides, I'd just npc, because it wasn't worth putting it up for 200 a stack. These newbs are gonna have it good.

I agree with you on this. Though like point out with a hq3 on sneak oils they atmaticly get 12. So they are making a killing. it the armor makers that are lossing so much money. top that people have no choice but to buy sneak oils

I know coming from a person that actually uses this piece of equipment. I would be willing to spend up to 200k for it. esp considering the costs of making it. If I were him I would keep raising the price till people stop buying it.

On a side note. Who the hell wants to lose 100kish a synth on an item that is virutally used for 2 lvls (until O-Hat) for a small amt of melee. This is one of those items that I would see having an at cost price anyways. 68-70 this is one of or dare I say the BEST item for some melee to wear on thier head. This cant be compared to Am. Mantle. The HQ is pretty rare. Cant get past the 2nd HQ tier on it. People are going to be willing to pay alot more then 20k for this piece.

Lets add up the cost of what 1 of things cost to make by curent AH prices.

Ingredients: Copper Ingot, Steel Sheet, Darksteel Chain, Darksteel Sheet, Sheep Leather

Copper Ingot = 10-12 K: A stack or I could spend 10 mins makeing a stack and save a few K, This does not include the travel time to go to a guild or a store to get the ore, nor does it include the price of the crystals

Steel Sheet = 8-11 K: Same for the ignots alsoadding the price of fire crystals to sheet the thing an additionl 5-6 K if I get the ingot

Darksteel Chain = 80-90 K: It takes 2 darksteel ingots to make this and no one makes and seels them really because they sell so slow and would be a loos to brek even

Darksteel Sheet = 40-45 K: could go an make it crom an ingot but it's the same price, or I could make the ingot but again this add another 5-6 K of crystaks to my orice

Sheep Leather 8-11 K: could go make or save time and buy it

Now lets add all this up.
10-12 K
8-11 K
80-90 K
40-45 K
8-11 K
Equals
146-169 K is what it ccosts me per Celata

Am I still Goudgeing? I'm still loosing money just not 120 K + like I was
12k a stack for copper ingots, and you only need 1. That means 1k each.

Darksteel ore is 30k? Two of them, 8k for iron ore and a few crystals, and you have 68k per chain, and you are sitting on the 31 tier, so you can HQ these more than you fail.

Again, Darksteel ore is 30k plus 3k in materials/crystals to make a sheet. There is no HQ on these, so I'll give you 40k as a fair price.

If you are paying more than 3k a pop for sheep leather and are looking for a supplier I'm sure a few hundred people would jump. These sell for 30k per stack tops.

That puts your cost at around 110k cost per celata. Assuming you don't make one at a time, you can cram all your travel time together, you can make 9 at once for less than 1M and less than an hour's work. That's 170k profit for an hour of crafting, without even HQ'ing. You're on the 11 tier for celeta, so chances are you'll HQ one if you craft at a good time and make 9. Don't quote misleading numbers to make people think you're losing your shirt here.

Back on the subject of "is it right?" If you can sell them for that price, and make a profit, go for it. If your profits become so huge on the synth, eventually someone will notice, and move in on your territory. They'll undercut, you'll undercut, and trying to drive each other away will take away from the profits of both of you. If you can go without this happening, it means you've jacked the price up a fair amount, and it's not worth someone else's time to fight with your for this sale.

Here's the kicker though. By making a NQ synth break even at artisan level smithing, you're just welcoming competition. People are gonna start leveling on the synth, and this will flood the market. You won't be able to sustain the price once people that can skill at that level realize what the price is.

I'm not against trying to recover money crafting, if you can skill up on an item that will get you profit, do it. But Stouter just tooled you. If you are making a synth for money....and are the only one doing you have to be pretty much asking to get competition by posting it for the public.

:butcher: wonders how many celata will be on ah by friday

Why do so many people think the economy can be 'stabilized'? It's going where it's going, and we can't stop it. We'd need 85%+ of the players on this server dedicated to the cause, and willing to lose some money over it. That won't happen.

It's not greed or selfishness, it's common sense and human nature.

If you're gonna bitch about a price-jacking crafter, check the price of the mats first. Sometimes they have a damn good reason for jacking the price, since so many raw mats are being raised as well.

OP has all the reason in the world to do what he's doing.
