Is Sam/Drg a good combo?

Weak, can you do it at all?

I don't know, i haven't tried. Can you do it? Is your sam even 70 yet?

I've used it before.. considering you get:
- SAM10/DRG5: Ancient Circle (hate producing; minimal if not against dragons)
- SAM20/DRG10: Jump and Attack Bonus (free attack plus constant ATK+)
- SAM50/DRG25: Dragon Killer (good for certain BCNMs, missions, etc)
- SAM60/DRG30: Accuracy Bonus (good overall, since it's constant ACC+)
- SAM70/DRG35: High Jump (another free attack plus enmity-reducing; my advice - good for after a WS/SC if you pull hate)
An early Attack Bonus plus a "free" attack every 1.5 minutes at level 20 seemed to help me gain TP quite well, which is a bonus for SAM. At level 70, you can perform 3 Jump attacks in 3 minutes, if timed correctly / on average - considering you might wish to save High Jump for WS/SC. Coupled with Meditate and Store TP by that time, TP gain will be quite fast - which is a key element for most SAM.

Most people would argue that once you get to SAM30, to switch over to WAR. I personally say don't because you'd end up losing the constant Attack Bonus (and free attack) and end up gaining a enmity-producing ATK+/DEF- ability plus Defense Bonus (which Berserk negates anyway). Considering how much TP you may end up having when you skillchain, it's a good chance you could get hit after using Berserk > WS. Due to the DEF-, you can get hurt decently. You end up getting these abilities/traits for /WAR:
- SAM10/WAR5: Provoke (only good if back-up tanking, personally; SAM are more DD type and not well-fit to back-up tank until later levels)
- SAM20/WAR10: Defense Bonus (constant DEF+; only good if back-up tanking again)
- SAM30/WAR15: Berserk and Resist Virus (25% ATK+/DEF-; good for WS damage only; produces enmity and increases chance of being attacked after WS/SC; Resist Virus only good at later levels and/or when solo'ing)
- SAM50/WAR25: Double Attack and Defender (10% chance to hit twice - considering average G.Katana delay is 435 means roughly 8 attacks per minute, approx. 9 average if Double Attack kicks in; Defender only useful if back-up tanking - though negates Berserk)
- SAM60/WAR30: Attack Bonus (constant ATK+)
- SAM70/WAR35: Warcry and Resist Virus II (ATK+ ability that produces about as much enmity as Provoke; Resist Virus II only good when fighting Plague/Disease/etc inflicting enemies and/or when solo'ing)

You really stretch a lot of things here, like saying sams can't tank lower levels. Anything with voke can tank in dunes, and do it well. I tanked on mnk in the jungles, no reason a sam can't. Adding dragon killer and resist virus is a joke. He is looking at Xp situations, not soloing or doing some mission where you fight dragons. And let's face it, in a 10 min fight, 2 intimidates isn't going to be the final straw that wins for you.

I've seen a WAR/DRG in action in a merits party and it was pretty good, although MP sponges do go hard on mages. I know Staraflur goes DRK/DRG sometimes and has parsed pretty well against gimps :P

Not sure, I don't exp with other weapons, so I've never tested it.

well i'll put it this way, i did it in a merit party, i had to change subs from doing too much dmg with self scing...

self sc with a 450gk isnt that hard tbh, just about timeing ad getting that extra swing in before your first ws animation lands. easyier with haste or march, but not nessicary.

/rng, /drg, sorobo are just easy ways to do it, but the effect is about the same.

but back to the OP, /drg is fine 20-49 in all honestly. People may choose either or, they have about the same effectivness imho. zerk with such low attack base isnt going to be that resounding.

basically comes down to

+25% atk (which, at lvl 30-50, base atk probably wont be over 200-250)
and higher STR base
voke

Vs.

1 jump attack
+10 attack stat
+5% haste @30

Both do-able, choose which you like.

If your party wants you /war for first provoke for SATA, you should sub war. I figure you know better, but should be mentioned just for anyone else out there.

Easy answer: No.

More thought out answer. No way.

I don't think you realize how fast TP can accumulate with Hundred Fists when you double attack and kick.

Thats with ur 2hr though. SAMs can do stuff like this consistantly.

Yeah, but I didn't say I could do it every 5 minutes. Just that I can do a self level 2 to level 3 skillchain that would outdamage any one chain a Samurai could produce.

Hell, possibly a Level 1 to Level 3 if I started myself off with 100%

Raging > Asuran > Raging > Dragon Kick goaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal. I patent this move "Skeleton Fucker."

Ofcourse, me personally doing it is highly luck based. But any one with Raja's is pretty much guaranteed to pull that chain off.

And Eleibfrid made a Self Light SC too, so DRG can do it as well.

Drk can....nvm >.>

DRK doesn't need to self-skillchain when you've got soul eater kraken club jumps.

You're right about that...but I think it'd be easier for a drk to do a level 2 self SC with abs TP than find a k club ;(

/ja "Third Eye" <me>

That should just about cover it, right? Especially once that's a 30 second ability, and with the new level 25 Job Ability coming out it will be cut down to a 15 second ability. Plus, the parrying bonus two handed weapons get (at least, I've noticed a difference) will help. Shit, on my Sam I've had some sick parrying skill-ups and such when I get hate. Plus, if you use an equip macro for any gear that will give you evasion boost until the tank regains the hate. And, so long as you don't touch your weapons than your TP will remain as well. Then again, that may not matter since the route that they seem to be going with SAM is making it into an alternate DD or Tank job with relative ease. I mean, basically one skill can change everything with SAM with the upcoming update. It's exciting to know the job will have so much to it. I just gotta level my subjob so I can pick up leveling Samurai again. >.>;; Anyhow, I just wanted to dispel that or offer an alternative so that the conclusion is well thought out and any current or would-be Samurai's will have a better insight to combinations and job aspects to make us that much better.

Touche. And I'd like to see Skeleton Fucker in action. That would make me lol @ skeles.
