its official, rng was nerfed.

The other melees will enjoy their jobs more and the "damage whore" RNGs (i.e. those that play the job because it can stack big numbers instead of just liking the feel of it) will enjoy them less.

So our downfall will give them joy? Well if that's the case then by all means, we need to be nerfed again, the melee need self-esteem!

errrr i do play BLM, im level 65 infact, close to 66

i can stun after WS and still cast level 3 magic or lvl 2 -GA and still make the MB :o!

Lol actually i was doing Burst for the MB and then followed with a Stun burst :P
I didnt know that stun could be bursted until then.

It's not your downfall :P

You seem to imply that RNGs have some god given right to outdamage everyone else. That's simply SE making a mistake with the game balance.

They are just correcting it. If you think about it for a second, it's much more reasonable for every DD to be similar to each other than for one of them to be significantly better. A leader should be able to select whatever DDs fit his party better, not pick whatever RNG is available first and then trying to figure out how to complete the party.

yeah, after stun, I'd still have to wait to cast Fire III if the thf had to ready SATA.

I usually start casting after the Right when the Thf uses TA.

lol I dunno about you but I usually save stun for after the burst to avoid getting raped -.- but back on topic:
how bout them rangers

That isn't really a factor because of the giant hate Transfer from SATA.

than lets make all arrows purchaseable from a NPC for 1 gil a piece, its not "fiar" that RNG's have to spend the money on there arrows, SE must have fucked up with teh game balancing there too huh? they PAY for there damage

shure you pay for your scythe but you can always sell it back, when you shoot 50 gil at a mob it NEVER comes back EVER damn SE balance the game more, make all melee weapons throwable so you have to buy them to throw at people!!!!

So you have to take a week to re-learn the job in a skillup pt. Its not the end of the world.

Yeah, but they have to learn where they will be positioning themselves so they can do the optimal damage to and how does our inflating economy reflect this? Less damaage = More arrows = MORE GIL NEEDED!

And you think about the party positioning... I suppose you can always group the rng with the mages now... I guess the mages can always be between the party and the ranger. Then the ranger will be the back and get smacked around in case there's aggro.

Or the ranger will have to be far but away from the mages forming some sort of triangle because the ranger is now getting useless Mage Ballads instead of the hunter's prelude or whatever from the bard running around.

From the sounds of it... you can pay loads of money buffing up your ranger and buying all those arrows to do or... play a melee (ie: DRK, THF, WAR etc) and do the same amount of damage for free.

If I could ever get connected, I could at least see first hand. I'm viewing how it looks based on the post.. :(

So use Blizzard III instead of Blizzaga III :-)
What's a couple hundred points on a 900 point MB?

theres a pride issue on how much damage a blm can do :D

That's a somewhat valid point, but in today's Vanadiel of gil buying, rampant inflation and generally chaotic economy you can't really expect money to balance jobs.

And in any case, costs are not necesarilly fair. Take a peacock charm (how much is that now ? 10-20-30M gil ?) and that means probably more arrows than you will ever shoot. Now put a DRG with a peacock charm and a RNG without one (but with lots of arrows) looking for group. Who will get picked up first ?

So no, money doesn't cut it.

look guys. heres the thing that pisses me off the most.
any of you that havent spent the last 2 years playing ranger might not understand this, but fellow rangers will.

put all the new party dynamcis aside, all the hnm/god crap, and take a solo ranger, and also keep in mind that alone we still have 0 defense and spend gil.

take a solo war, mnk, drg Whatever.
in party or out they will deal their same damage. a well geared war, mnk, even drg will dish out some great numbers. they will hit a mob, solo, based on their combat skill + weapons damage + .5str / mob vit & def

now go back to our new solo ranger. they can no longer deal damage Alone with that same basic equation.
Now, Solo, with No backup support, we do not get to use our Full potential.

No other job in the game has ever been hit like that. So that in One circumstance and One only, is a ranger allowed to fufill his "full potential", just in a party. Or more Specifically, in a group with a Tank that can hold the mob off.

comon guys, thats totally fucked up. -_-
If you all thought the balance was bad before, its shot to shit right now.

Perhaps, but any such correction so far into the game's life (what, it just NOW dawned on them that RNG do crazy damage? I have stuffed animals that are quicker than that) is bound to make people unhappy. Not just those affected directly, either, but the people who have gotten used to the way the system works and have found ways to work with it. I suppose SE doesn't want to set the precedent of just buffing people more and more, but it would be interesting to see how people would react to SE making the other DD do more instead of nerfing job X.

To Palum: So you cant just take the crappy lvl 1 arrows and learn the positioning(sp?). Just calculate the damage ratio and there you go. And now rangers have to run around a bit more.

I do aggree that it sux, but like Rommie said, its pretty late. They should have done this earlier like when the job was introduced to tool around with this. Depending on how far back RNGs have to go makes this an issue. If they have to stand a few "feet" away, its not all that bad. If they have to stand near/behind the mages, it'll be horrible. Mainly for places that have small camps where everyone has to be practicly on top of eachother so as not to get accidental aggro/AoE from other parties mobs. So there will be a feeling out process for the next few weeks.

I do think that RNG needed to be "tweeked" somehow, cause everyone thought that it was not being fair to other melees for balance sake. Cause I think most can aggree that it was unbalanced.

you do realize that a stack of Beetle Quivers is 40-50k... and those are lvl 18(maybe 17?) arrows. I haven't priced anything like scorpian arrows yet. And silver bullets are crazy expensive.

Rng was out of control and any rng that isn't lying to theirself knows it. A nerf was needed. I'm not saying they went about it in the best way, but they needed to do something about it. I guess I'm gonna call this thier 1st attempt. More than likely enuff people will bitch and complain about it to where they'll change it back, or make it just o less damge but not matter where you stand.

edit: To everyone that is bitching, I say get over it, it's just a game, if you don't like the game, stop playing.

Oh no, we have to stand in a different place when we pt now, let's all slash our wrists and bleed on the corpse that was FFXI. God, just play the game for a month and you'll get used to it. This shit happens to at least one job in every update.

Seriously, you cry-babies might actually have to learn of the word Restraint.

I agee 100%. I heard about the nerf right after I got my Rng to 24 so I stopped playing rng. Now, I'm gonna take the job up again and learn how to play the new way. What a novel idea.

Ranger

Job Type: Advanced
Description:
The Ranger is the master of ranged combat  . No other class is as good with a bow or a gun as the Ranger. The ranger is also a master of the wild, and as such can track his enemies and forage the land.

In order to be able to switch to this job, you need to be at least level 30 and have completed the Ranger Flag Quest.

I agree with all in the above its not nerfed it's the way a ranger playes
