Job Balancing update and details

Don't get too excited. From the way they worded it, it didn't sound like they were making your scythe stronger. Rather I suspect a nerfing of GSD or a changing of how it skill chains. So end result is you get more limited and slightly weaker. I hope they don't change it much.

"Motivating Dark Knights to return to using their Scythes" doesn't sound the same as "Nerf Great Sword" to me. Could be they'll shift Scythes around in the SC chart, or a variety of other possibilities. Thus far, every wording I've heard about this change implies an improvement of the Scythe use, rather than gimping GS.

the whole update is about enhancing jobs. i don't see anything about any job getting weakened in that entire update.

BLM? eh?

They said they don't want to weaken blm.. just give black mages an incentive to party with other types of jobs.. that could mean anything really... but the fact they said they don't want to weaken black mage puts my mind at ease .. a little.. could screw all the elvaan and galkan blm's over by making spells use more mp.. OUCH!

There's a number of things that it could mean, but I agree with what was said earlier. It doesn't appear they want to "weaken" any job. They're giving bonuses to jobs that are already out there. I wonder if they're doing that to prevent so many people from jumping ship to the new jobs, or if they made these 3 new jobs so powerful that they had to balance the old ones before the new ones "take over".....

I do want to add however, Blm has been my intended main since I created "Darthyoda", and regardless of how they change it, I will still be a Black mage. There will always be a place for my job in the game. I feel there's a place for EVERY job in the game. It's the players that create the stigmas.. ok.. now, I'll let you all debate.

This reminds me of how they 'motivated rngs to attack from a distance and stop meleeing'. They want people to stop using GS so much without making DRK too strong, thus the quick and easy solution for SE is to nerf GS in some fashion. The fact that they didn't say they were enhancing or improving scythe, but rather motivating drks to use them makes me think of a nerf for GS.

Most likely change I see is a movement of GS in the skill chain chart to be identical scythe. Thus people will be motivated to use scythe since they have higher skill and it creates the same skill chain, plus SE won't have to worry about that making DRK overpowered. End result would be a more limited drk who couldn't make light chains anymore.

I aim to please. Just to prove that point, I have shipped a crate of pickled chocobo anuses to your font door. No, this is not some crazy attempt to have it arrive on April 1st as a joke. This is the genuine article. They look like pinapple slices...Only browner.
You cheapskate. You know how addicting those things are... a mere crate will be gone in hours!

We recognize that black mage is a very powerful job. We see that a lot of players are forming parties with just black mages, and we would like to change that. We do not plan to weaken the job, but we want to create benefits for partying with other jobs. We are also considering adding new magic to the black mages’ repertoire.
Now no one is disputing that we are getting new spells. If they give us more spells thats make us appealing to the end level parties thats great, I mean why not. What is making me concerned is part that I bolded. Its the "we want to change that" that scares me. How could they make it that you wouldnt want/cant have multiple BLMs in a given party? Well theres resistance issues that they could implement or a hard cap where you can only have X amount of jobs per party. Atleast those are the ones I can think of off hand that SE could do to effectivly stop us and saddly both of those ways will also hurt how endgame events such as Sky and HNMs are handled.

Sure if you make BLMs more viable in standard party setups thats great... only if you are in a classic party setup. But later on a good portion of melees do Rampage parties in sky getting some sick numbers for XP thereby lowering the number of parties that you can make. I mean do you really think someone is going to choose a party that gets 5k an hour over one that can give him/her 8-10k?

Well let's be fair...You know those are a pricey delicacy.
Having been witness to you putting away fistfulls of pickled chocobo anuses in the past, I knew I needed more than a mere "Big Value" bag. However, I underestimated your appetite for this delicacy.

Hopefully you'll savor each scrumptious bite a little more knowing that I carved them out myself...And that no part of the chocobo went to waste.
All the bones were shipped over to the Bonecrafter's guild. The eyes were coated in glass and turned into marbles for the Taru children to play with. I'll be shipping the plushy chocobo down pillows to you when I've finished stitching them up. Remember, my CC skillz are onry at 29. ><

I've also taken the liberty of contracting the finest cooks to whip up a feat of meat for Cid. He will be unable to detect the odorless venom potion within, until it's too late.
The rest of the meat went to feed new chocobos, so as to provide you with all the pickled anuses you could ever want. However, I may need to drop some gil to expand operations to keep up with your ferocious desire for them.

That's because you're a red mage.

Company sword has the highest 1-handed base damage in the game.

They need to make vorpal blade 5-hit though :D

Actually Hrotti, and a lot of Axes have a higher base damage than a Company Sword...

Again, Company Sword goes up to 56 base dmg when in a full party. Each member in your party aside from yourself increases the base by 2 points. The only weapon with higher base dmg than a filled-out Company Sword is the relic club, Mjollnir.

I understimated the love & care you are putting into this package, and I apologize for my previous relatiation. Rest assured that you will be rewarded next time we dine... multiple times.

Oh, and don't f_ck with Cid. Have you seen that dude's face? You don't get that ugly by dying from poison. Nay, your attempts are fruitless. He's actually the #1 poisonous food chef in the world, mainly because he's the only one who has survived such meals time and time again.

I dont think improving scythe a bit would make drk "overpowered." Drk is far from the top of the power chart and a bit of an enhancement wont cause it to shoot to the top.

Moving one of the 65+ Scythe skills to a different block on the level 3 chain chart would help out, preferably to one of the light blocks. lol2skillssameblock.

I'd still use GSD over Scythe because Spinning slash is just that much stronger than either Cross Reaper or Spiral Hell at 100% tp. And for 300 tp you have Ground Strike.

SE should do something to make all two handed weapons more viable. It seems whenever given the chance, players prefer dualweilding one hand weapons instead of using a twohander. Maybe the delay could be lowered to somewhere between one single hander and dual weild II. I mean, everyone who can dualweild is pretty much doing it, except paladins, so that's the attack speed SE should be balancing great-weapons against. If you compare one great-weapon to one single-hander, things are pretty balanced, but if party trends are any indicator, not being a melee myself, great-weapons in general seem pretty outclassed when dual-weild enters the picture.

I agree, maybe they could give 2 handed weapons like Scythe and Greataxe give more TP return, I know they have already high TP return per hit, but it's still not enough compared to dual wielding 2 single handed weapons, specially stuff like joyeuse, or perhaphs not even that, even 2 regular axes "out-TP" a greataxe.

You just proved my claim. The only way they can make scythe more appealing is by giving scythe a big boost (unlikely) or nerfing GSs sc abilities/power.

Increasing scythe power would still not be a overpowering boost.

Increasing it enough that it is more appealing than GS would. It would take a massive increase in DoT or large improvement to ws dmg (as you stated yourself) combined with a movement in the sc chart so it can do light.

massive bump, but mjollnir has 57 damage, that's the highest one handed base damage in the game. company sword in a full party is 56.
