Honestly, I don't see anything wrong with a White Mage (or anyone with Raise) -not- Raising someone randomly. Sure, it's nice when someone randomly raises you when they walk by and see you laying there dead, but it's not their job to do it, and expecting to be Raised by a complete stranger, without asking even, is just plain -stupid-. I could understand if they refused to help you, and were rude about it, /laughing as you die or something, there's a reason to flame, but people not taking care of you, a complete stranger to them, when you get in over your head is a bit much to expect.
You have no idea if other people are busy. Sure, a quick Raise may not be that bad, but you really don't know what they were doing. Although slightly off topic (not really though, still dealing with Raise and such), I have to say I hate people that beg for Raises in lowbie areas like Valkurm. Main reason being that they should have thought to set their homepoint if they knew they were going to be partying there. Like getting back a whole 50 experience from a Raise instead of Homepointing is really going to matter in a party at that level, when someone that's raised is pretty much useless for a few minutes, leaving the party unable to get exp properly, when it would be much easier to just Homepoint, get -full- HP and MP back, and be back to your party in a minute or two. The only acceptable reason for a raise in areas like that would be when someone gets aggroed when they enter the area, before they're able to set homepoint. Aside from that, I look at people begging for raises, even fellow party members, as poor players.
When it comes to soloing, and things go wrong, I think it's stupid to get upset over people that don't go out of their way to help you. If you want someone to watch your back, get a party. If you're bored while waiting, do something safer. It's no ones fault but your own that you died, and no one else's responsibility if you die and need a Raise. Sorry, but the White Mage's job is to keep their party members alive, not random strangers.
Besides, you don't know what that WHM was thinking. Maybe they've had just as many bad experiences with Raising people as you've had with WHMs not raising people. I've heard of -many- times when people have been yelled at for Raising someone. At the least, those people could just decline the raise, and thank the person anyways, but it's not always that nice. Don't be judging an entire job class just because of some bad experiences that you may not completely understand.
