You keep trying to make this into a melee vs mage issue, and it's just simply not. When somebody brings unexpected aggro to a camp, it affects the whole party. When somebody dies on their way to camp, it delays and inconveniences the whole party. When someone takes a long-ass time to get to camp because they have to wait for mobs to move around so they can run past them while the rest of the party waits and twiddles their thumbs, it affects the whole party. And so on.
Melees
did post in agreement. I don't know if you're just missing it or trying to ignore it, but the thread was about 50/50 melee to non-melee (with a big detour into SC stuff).
And all the melees agreed that you should fucking carry oils/prisms/tonko. Don't believe me? It's 3 in the morning and work is slow, so here's some names. Non-melee responding: Cubswoo, Eni, Repsisa, Direwolf, Tiya, Neche, Alanon. Melee who responded: Ultraseven, Ezikiel, Krono, Flaruwuru, Sneakypants, Kelsilv, me. Plus Kat and Firestreak, who both have a 75 mage but also melee jobs (50 WAR and 73 PLD, respectively).
Good for you if you're good at avoiding aggro without them. But shit happens--and I'm not talking about super high level places. I'm about the same level as you are. I don't care if you're melee or mage; you should have these on you. Forgetting them or running out is one thing--no one's perfect. But making the conscious choice to not get them because there'll be mages there, or because the party might be not worth it (and I think that was the comment that got you all the heat), or whatever reason, is just boneheaded.
