That's ridiculous. I didn't even know what sex was until like 6th grade. (I also didn't know what "masturbate" meant until Soph year in high school. True story.)

The problem is kids know too much nowadays. I hate to blame movies and television, but its everywhere. Parents need to start taking some fucking responsibility.

Kids SHOULD learn early, believe it or not early education usually leads to better decision making. Seeing sex as like a 'forbidden fruit' makes young teens want it more.

Obviously the current method of not teaching anyone a fuckin thing about it in most schools isn't working too well, huh?

by the way, my 15 year old cousin just recently delivered a baby boy.

lmao...

Use condoms. Or slap your kids. I vote for both

Also, I dont think its ONLY the lack of teaching in school (however, I thought sex ed was required in 6th grade? It was for me) but also what kids are learning at home and etc. Not once from my parents or anyone else in my parents age have I heard stories of kids getting pregnant like this.

But this is a completely different era...

the outrageous part is that the nurses operating said things, ie: the ones that give the stuff to kids,
are not required to tell the parents, or in some cases are bound by law to keep the childs activity a secret

it is a completely confidential transaction. if i was a parent, i would be very interested if my 11-12 year old daughter was taking birth control, and i would be outraged if there were school officials that knew about this but would not tell me.

Kids follow the examples they are given.

Let TV be your babysitter, and you will get a child that does what it sees on TV. TV is all about sex. Commercials are all about sex. Music is all about sex. Why do people wonder why 15 year olds are having kids when all they have been shown their whole life is people having sex?

Kids need a stay at home parent. They had this for a long time until women decided they were tired of sitting at home with the kids by default. Now that people have seen that it's ok for women to work, they need to realize that it's ok for one of the parents to stay at home and not work.

Can't afford it? Don't have kids. Got pregnant on accident? Get an abortion. Don't want to get an abortion? Fine, be a fuck up and raise a little fuck up who will do the same thing you did and fuck up.

All the girls had a preliminary sexual education before the boys when I was in grade five, which would be around the age of 11, then we had the co-ed whole Sex Ed she-bang in grade 12. When I graduated from elementary school in 1999, none of the girls were pregnant or with babies.

Kind of sad that in less than ten years, we have 12 year olds becoming parents.

As for the television thing (too lazy to quote, I'm sorry), as a child of the 80's, television and movies were a big part of my childhood, maybe not to the extent of today's kids, but I had really responsible parents. Hell, I knew about sex and where babies came from before I entered Kindergarten, because I lived on a horse breeding farm, and my mom made us watch "Where Did I Come From?" all the time. Maybe that's the best way to get the message out to little kids. Having them watch an animal give birth, then you'll never want to have unprotected sex ever.

I like the results of making contraceptives available to sexually-active youth much more than the alternatives.

Pissed that your kid wouldn't tell you? Maybe you should work on your relationship instead of getting pissed that school officials are taking an interest.

Give kids the knowledge about sex and the contraceptives and they are probably more likely not to actually engage in it.

Parents need to communicate with their kids about it, schools need to make thorough programs about it, and hope that their kids will use their better judgement when it comes down to it.

Imagine if you only taught kids how to swim theoretically but not actually show them how.
Putting a fence around a pool and hoping the kids dont try to swim in it is asking for something to happen like a drowning.
Show them how to actually swim and maybe they won't drown.

They do not need a stay at home parent. They need a parent or two who gives a shit. Both my parents worked full time jobs. My mom always cooked dinner for us at the end of the day, and both my parents wanted to know who we were going out with, how long we would be gone, and what we would be doing. They spent time with us at home and because they cared, they made sure we were educated and responsible. None of us got knocked up at 12, none of us were promiscuous, none of us became boozers or druggies.

Parents simply need to pay attention and stop being so caught up in their own personal advancement and goals that they let their kids be totally independent. It isn't about the necessity of someone being a "stay at home parent" at all, it's about understanding that parenting consists of more than screwing and giving birth. That and people need to start realizing that their kids, who they think are "too young" to be hearing about sex or learning about how to protect themselves and contraception are either already having sex or know people who have.

Well, I also think that the public school system is completely broken and sending your kids there is one of the worst things you can do. If you want your kids to really learn something, teach them at home. Of course, that makes parenting a fulltime job. Or pay a babysiter. The good ones cost a lot. You'd have to have a fulltime job to pay them in most cases, so skip the middle man and raise them yourself.

My mom worked full time, sometimes as many as 3 jobs at once while I was growing up. My father worked sometimes, but usually, he'd just go out back and lay in the tall grass and smoke crack till he passed out. I still turned out ok, but I could have done a lot better at life in my earlier years if I had been under the watchful eyes of a parent who cared. The only parent I really had was forced to work all the time because she cared, the other used the TV as a babysiter.

I guess the point to all this is that a responsible stay at home parent can only make things better for their children.

We need less people. We need parents that aren't fucking stupid. We need to beat the fucking children. (I don't mean for dropped a ball in PE or anything, I mean flunking school or something.)

Tough love. Spoiled kids are horrible, I fucking hate spoiled children.

My single dad raised 3 girls so no, you don't need a stay at home parent.

If kids see contraceptives as being told they can have sex, their parents didn't raise them properly.

That movie is fucked. I watched it tripping on LSD.

Scary shit.

it is freaky... a little too realistic because I grew up with kids like them ><

they should make that movie a requirement for sex ed. lol the "what can go wrong, will go wrong" scenario

Knowing that it wasn't confidential sexually active kids would be far less likely to report that they were sexually active in fear on consequences from their parents.

I am honestly quite concerned about how children are growing up today and look forward to spending part of my tiime volunteering and working with children who may be at risk for teenage pregnancy. It's an issue, but it is concealed by the fact that others are waiting until much later to have children, so the numbers don't really show the average age of mothers in the US to be shockingly low. Talking to younger girls, you'd be surprised at the number that actually WANT to have children, and that really concerns me.

Trust me, if you know about sex, you most likely know about contraceptives. If you're going to blame televisions for teaching children about sex, in those same shows that talk about it, you have to recognize that you also hear talk about condoms and other forms of birth control as well as themes about contracting STDs. How many 11, 12, or 13 year olds are going to go out to the pharmacy/clinic to actually get them? They're probably scared for their parents to find out and embarassed as well. Quite honestly, at that age, I'd rather schools and parents glorify abstinence and chastity. I'm sure parents can decline that those services be provided to their child. That's what I remember from my HS wellness center. Mentally, I don't think middle schoolers are ready for any sort of sexual relationship, but I'm not opposed to them learning the "science" of it all.

The poor little kids just want to grow up too fast...

Damn straight, if I had a kid and they were that age and had sex they would have my foot introduced to their ass. It's disgusting that children that age are even thinking about sex let alone taking part in it.
