Kind of a funny observation on my fellow BLMs

Firestreak said:
Activated AF2 pants are a little better than Mahatma but they will not boost your Stone 4 to hit more than Thunder 4. I don't know where you're getting that from, but it's not nearly that big of a difference. At the most it'll bring a blizzard 4 past thunder 4 but I'd have to test that to even be sure of that.

I didn't say anything about Stone IV. You'll notice I said the same as you, it makes bliz IV better than thunder IV. Down to maybe Fire/Aero, the damage boost is good enough to make it worth it to cast a weaker spell that matches the day over a stronger one that doesn't. Of course that's considering I have just a few merits in potency. For a fully merited blm the idea of casting anything besides Blizzard or Thunder is just silly, unless they're aiming for some odd MB or fighting a monster that is resistant to one or both of said spells.

I agree with this argument, but as a WHM & SMN (with two sets of gear for each and [literally] a staff for every day of the week) leveling NIN. . . This is a tremendous burden on my inventory. If you just want to play 1 or 2 jobs and be the best you can possibly be at those jobs, you're absolutely right. You're going to have all kinds of different gear for all kinds of situations, but if you're more interested in leveling all kinds of jobs, this is nearly impossible. I mean, I understand some people "retire jobs" so they sell off all their gear, invest in a new job and just play that for a while, but not me. I can't give up the two jobs I already love, and I don't want to stop leveling either. So with the (ridiculous, but ever expanding) limitations on our inventory I can -sympathize- with (as Fire said) those who are "only gimping themselves." I still agree that in an ideal world where everyone wants to be the best they can be at the job they are playing, you are right. I also believe that gear doesn't make you great. I have done plenty of things ass-naked on White Mage just to see if I could. I challenge the odds to see if I can keep up. I don't expect to succeed, but typically I do. I'd probably try to tank Byakko ass-naked on Ninja just to see if I could (expecting full-well to die, but w/e just experience.)

As much as I agree and sympathize, I think that your way of thinking typically breeds gilbuying. Our particular community (as I have no other experience with any other) seems to pride itself on 1337 gear so much that people who want to "feel cool" (even though they're just some nerd playing a video game) go out of their way (including breaking Terms of Service) to do so. If someone sucks at their job, they will suck. If they're good at their job, I'm sure you'll be fine. Gear makes good players have an easier time playing good, and bad players look cool while they play poorly. That's all.

Sorry for the rant.

there is only one set of gear that is the best for every situation.

birthday suit. awww yeah. /welcome motion.

almost most end-gear is situational, but good for that single situation. Which is also why you use it.

But yeah, I get annoyed at those stuff to. I never use my AF body on RDM unless that single enfeeble is critical to land, so I prefer errant's body over it. In exp parties that is.
errant <no thanks> uglyist set of armor in game. I use my chasuble (which i do use for mb) if anything, only reason i have errant body is though 1/1000 times i have to heal (I ever get af+1 body bye bye errant body). errant has no mp af does, though enf dont resist 99 % of time it does help in that 99.9% time that it would resist. In long run id say no to errant body. Now crimson mail is a diffent story it got 10 int/mnd and 40 mp/hp which alot more helpful. Only errant gear i see using once you got some endgame gear is the legs during large hnms and exp with /blm (if i get nash seawells even though will be gone).

That's exactly what Fire talked about, people not wanting to use gear because its ugly. Whiel errant might be ugly, it DOES increase the effectivness of your enfeebles, like making Slow stronger. This is something Chausuble just simply doesn't do. So while I throw out stronger slows 99.5% of the time in exp parties, you throw out weaker ones 99.6% of the time? Although that is wrong too, as I highly doubt we have identical gear. I can't remember the last time I got resisted in a exp party...

10 MND is A LOT, and is not worth throwing away to to hit 0.1% more, especially considering the low MP cost of enfeebles... I have 134 MND and 321 enfeebling in my MND enfeebing gear as RDM/BLM, and I'd have even more as RDM/WHM. 10 MND is just too good to throw away because of bad looks.

Do you think melees would NOT equip Kirin Osode if it was ugly because of looks? Would you refuse to equip your AF if it was ugly? This is not Top Model, and an exp party is not a cat walk.

Also, while errant have no MP, MP is 100% useless when you're sitting at 50% MP. If this game was all about MP, I'd wear my Zenith set 100% of the time..

are you serious--- wont use errant body over a chasuble???? lol.. INT+10? MND+10? 1 more -Enmity? HMP+5 ? and thats a waste?

but yet, you'll use this, which has just a few more defense, and alittle more hp and mp.. you must be kidding lol

even if errant is ugly to macro in or to even use at times-- its surely better than looking inadequate.

Ok I'd like to clarify a few things, cause I don't quite think what I find amusing is getting through.

1. I'm not saying everyone needs multiple sets. Not saying everyone needs to make room for every gear swap possible.

2. Not saying people need the most expensive gear. Far from it.

3, Not saying people need to dedicate huge chunks of their lives to devote to endgame to get the best gear.

I'm saying this...

Why in the hell are people pouring millions of gil in their character, throwing months of their life away getting gil to buy or gear directly, to SUCK?

For any job that you play, there is a perfectly good easy to obtain set of gear.

Even the poor BLMs get like... AF head, hands, errant legs, and you can get a NQ weskit I'm sure without buying gil.

There is a fairly low effort 75 suit.

And it blows away all those people who put twice the gil and 100 times the time in it because they are using the situational gear you're supposed to swap around with that as their only gear set and they're using the stuff you're supposed to swap in as their regular armor.

To me it just doesn't make any sense. I'm not telling everyone they suck I just don't understand what they're smoking. If you don't have the room for gear swap, why go out there and get AF2 pants? I'm sure you earned it, and you deserve it but all you're accomplishing is..

1) You do less damage because you aren't using Mahatma pants.
2) A BLM who would gear swap it doesn't get it.

I reiterate, the reason I am targeting BLM specifically, is besides myself, I don't notice any other BLM who have AF2 legs and carry around their errants.
For other jobs, it appears as if there are just a few people who do this. For BLMs, it's only a few people who DON'T do that.

decidence said:
I thought this is a topic about BLM's.

Any job would experience the same things. Discussion brought that out into the open, where it is the concensus that situational sets, if one has the luxury of inventory space, are a great thing to carry and have ready to equip via macro.

lol i never sit just dont need to, and i do wear zenith about 70% of the time. im sitting at little under 925mp as rdm (w/o dalmatica and crown) I wont go much more then that, because I would surpass my hp (thinking of using crimson legs but dont think want loss 4mnd and 23mp just to help = out my mp and hp). would they use kirin odose if it was ugly? i'd say that proven with people using was. turben. Also you say you have 321 enf 134 mnd. Only way I can see you having that much is that you using clubs instead of staff and you have be using crimson mask or enf earring and mas. cas. bracers (which dont work in alot of places). i also have 9 ma atk in gear to so lossing alittle int not hurting me to much. (af2 boots, molv earring, zenith gloves.) Anouther thing you using slow as a example considering most party now days are cannons (not saying pld are bad) but nins normaly the ones casting slow because it a quicker cast. Though that not much of a arguement because a person should be equiped for any situation. (even though a better example would have been gravity) If I remeber you are elven though, so I can see why you picked a mind spell:spiteful:

Space is a very big issue. I just did an inventory count:

- 48 pieces of weapons/armor for ninja for end game situations, and I am after a few more that won't replace current pieces.
- 18 stacks of tools/toolbags food and meds that are frequently needed, there's another 12 slots of elemental ninja tools and toolbags on mule.
- 35 pieces of rare/ex or non-AH deliverable weapons/armor for jobs other than nin, or used at lower level caps for nin.
- 37 pieces of furniture to allow me to swap between two moghancements and cap out at 80 storage.
- 44 random ex things such as Bst/Kindred seals, linkshells, limbus chips and AF upgrade items, unlit lantern, etc.

So with 80 safe, 80 storage, 60 inventory, and 40 mog locker that's 260 slots I have to work with, and 182 are already taken. 78 slots to work with. Sounds like a lot of space, but I often have half of that used up for various crafting items and crystals, so bringing in gear for another job puts me close to capacity.

Well... why is it that people go to great lengths to get gear that's worse than much more easily obtained gear, and then wear the worse gear 24/7?

Case and point.

BLM AF2 legs. Yeah I got em. Let us examine the stats.

Def 30: MP+13 INT+3 Enmity-2
Elemental magic affected by day.

And then there's Mahatma Slops:
Def:39 STR-6 DEX-6 VIT-6 AGI-6 INT+8 MND+8 CHR+8 Enmity-4

Now, except for this... "Elemental magic affected by day." stat, the Mahatma pants are clearly better. 8 int -4 enmity vs 3 int -2 enmity and 13 mp. It's no comparison.

Yes, on the right day of the week Sorceror's Tonban are better!

But what about when you're casting Thunder 4 on Earthday???

Why do BLM wear their AF2 heads to fight exp mobs? Are you afraid of resist???

Why do you people wear Dalmatica? Why do you guys nuke with Sorceror's Coat on??? Why AF2 hands when you aren't even skillchaining? It's a manaburn!!!

In short, why are all my fellow BLMs on crack? Is it more important to show off gear to make people jealous of you than it is to use the easier to get gear that actually is worth equipping in 95% of the situations you're in?

Sure swap in AF2 head for Kirin or some high resist mobs. Swap in AF2 legs for nuking on the right day with the right nuke. Swap in hands for MB. Swap in body for... uhhh (I guess the only time I use body is for things like Limbus or Dynamis where I run around a lot).

But if you're not going to bother swapping gear around, you're WAY better off with Zenith/Yigit/Genie hands, you're way better off with Mahatma pants, AF-freaking-1 hat and a weskit. That gear is to swap in for the right occasion, it's not for wearing all day and night just to show everyone you got it.

Very well said, I prefer my Mahatma Slops over my Sorcerer's Tonban. And seriously. . . stop wearing Igqira gloves. What the hell is wrong with you? Even AF1 is better than that shit. I saw a BLM wearing Zenith Slacks yesterday and almost puked.

well zenith slacks is fine if you're using it for base mp for casts and buffs like stoneskin and blink and like the such.. but for nuking.. ugh lol

I'm so confused by this... Unless you can't stick your enfeebs WTH would use Chasuble? Yes Errant is ugly, but a Chasuble makes you look like a damn hippie.

Crimson legs? What for? The only reason a RDM uses crimson is to get to the MH or AH faster or for running around like a chicken while kiting angry Dynamis/Limbo critters.

I know Uzor is psychotic like me and is toting around like 4 sets or more for RDM. And it boils down to this...

Wear w/e you want when you're in town or traveling around, but when it's time to XP, HNM, etc., it boils down to maxing out the stats that you need for the situation. Simple enough concept.

I can think of one good use for those and other -hp +mp gear on blm and thats for the LE ring, +10 MAB yes please.

I can think of a few reasons many blms have such sucky gear, at least from my experience.

First that most exp. partys don't much care, I've turned down so many invites on blm it's a joke. I don't know if any of you ever met this one blm (wont name names), the CHR blm as I liked to call him, stacked CHR gear and nuked for the worst damage I've ever seen, still got parties.

Second there's a lot of blms that have gone sort of semi-retired, with blm you don't need much gear to still do decent damage on HNMs and stuff so a lot just sell what they can and run around in rare/ex and cheap stuff well working on other jobs. sure they get outdamaged a ton by good blms but they are still more usefull in some fights then your other random meles.

To be the best at any job you should have multiple sets of armor so you're ready for each situation. my drg has tp gain (gets changed alot depending on mobs) weaponskill and defense gear (I'm a taru and I don't want to die too much) sets, my blm has different sets of gear for most of my spells as well as a mp recovery set for resting. I'm pretty sure most other jobs are like this.
