Kind of a funny observation on my fellow BLMs

Osse said:
It's very true that you need to swap appropriate gear for maximum potency. This applies to every job, not just BLM.

But the AF2 pants example is making a moutain out of a molehill. The AF2 has +13 MP and +3 Int and a bonus for the element of the day. The Errant Slops have +7 Int, the main stat a BLM is interested in, unless he's doing slow and paralyze for some reason. (Let's not bring the +1 version into it, since it's only marginally better for a whole hell of alot more gil).

Four more Int will equal between +2-3% damage, and on a non-bursted Thunder 4 thats about 20-30 damage, perhaps as much as 40 damage.

Now, the reality of the situation in end game is that you want effeciency. You are fighting HNM's and need to make your MP count, so you cast the most effective spell you can for the mob. Or, you are trying to chain mobs as fast and as *long* as you can in an xp party. If you are wise, you choice of spells will be based upon the mobs' weakness, THE DAY OF THE WEEK, and any prevaling elemental effects. Not to mention, most of the SC's you see will be either Light or Darkness, so there is a 50/50 chance that you can MB a spell appropriate for the day of the week. Although the BLM nukes do more damage as you go up in spell level, the damage:MP ratio is about the same. The only way to improve effeciency is to cast a spell consistent with the day of the week, and there is a 50% chance that you can MB it as a bonus. So the pants are more useful than you let on, assuming you actually take advantage of them. But they are not good for everything, that is true.

Or, as another BLM scarcasticly told me once: "Didn't you know, when you hit lv 75, every mob is weak to Thunder 4." And you can just nuke away to your heart's content.

Ok let's see-

There are a few factors you're forgetting that lead us towards the path of Blizzard and Thunder 4 only as far as nuking is concerned.

1. You mention MB: You want to MB your strongest nukes as long as we're talking about dmg/mp ratio.

2. As you reach your final nukes, your dmg/mp ratio increases. From 65+ the base dmg off the single target nukes increase much more rapidly than the previous 65 levels, the DMG/MP ratio in fact increases as a result, making those last 2 more efficient.

3. Blizzard 4, built in 10 elemental magic, built in 5 int bonus, nuff said.

4. Spike dmg > clear mind resting. More damage over the course of several fights.

5. Merits - thunder and blizzard potency. You'd have to be on crack to put it anywhere else. Those merits alone > AF2 legs bonus.

6. Ignoring 1-5, matching your nukes with the day of the week may SEEM more mp efficient, but they aren't as time efficient - and to a mage with the ability to hit a rest macro, Time = MP.

And by the way, you mention day of the week as a huge factor in your endgame spell choices. Have fun fighting Kirin on earthsday.

I know what you were saying, Fire. Why wear "leet" gear when gear easier to get is clearly better? I got it and I agree. I was arguing later ideas.

Just to clarify. =)

If two pieces of gear are comparable in quality, I pick the one that looks cooler. I value complete equipment sets (still working on Igqira Huaraches...). My choice in equipment kinda falls under Firestreak's complaint. It looks better than it is. My 1mil igqira lappas look better to the casual AH browser/ armchair economist than the half price errant slops (and look cooler too), but they don't do as much for my nukes. If I join endgame and fight gods, or join Dynamis and realize I'm going to need the best of the best, then I'll go crazy with multiple equipment sets. If however, all I'll really be doing is exp/merit parties, the mobs die so fast that there's really no practical difference between a good blm and a great blm. In fact, lately I struggle to find a place for myself in a world where mobs don't live long enough for my spells to pull their weight. So anyway, my excuse for being guilty of Firestreak's accusation is that I'm anal about wearing complete equipment sets. I wore complete Seers, complete Tact.Mag., complete AF and now all but complete Igqira (darn harajinite...). It's just a quirk I've carried from single player games to this one. Fortunately, none of the complete blm gear sets are bad. Noone mocks a blm in complete AF and noone's mocked my indulgence in Igqira armor. I dunno. Noone's perfect. I'm guilty, lol.

Nobody looks down on you because as far as gear is concerned BLM have a really skewed standard, being that we see the person with the most flashy looking hard to obtain gear and people want to be that guy.. There's absolutely no concern over actual stats.

Uzor said:
First of, you cringe over the -10 STR, DEX etc.? In all honesty, how often do you use those stats in an exp party? And reason I took slow as an example was because it is the enfeebling spell that is most known about what stats do.

As RDM/BLM, I have 124 MND and 117 INT, which I bet is more then you have in both stats if you refuse to use Errant Houppelande. On top of that I also have 968 HP and MP, so my HP/MP pools are perfectly balanced. And I can assure you that is impossible to achieve without changing equipment.

Oh, and btw. You don't have to change your /equip macroes all the damn time. The only time I have to change my equip macroes are when I obtain a new piece of gear. And that does NOT take long time, because I only have t o change 1 macro. Let me explain to you;

macro table 2

ctrl + 1: convert gear
insert all covnert gear here

ctrl + 2: elemental gear
insert all elemental gear here (general nuking gear)

ctrl + 3: enfeebling gear
insert all enfeebling gear here (combine with INT/MND macro)

ctrl + 4: magic burst gear
insert all magic busting gear here. Mainly +INT instead of +elemental

ctrl + 5: INT gear
insert INT gear (some replaces +enfeebling)

ctrl + 6: MND gear
insert MND gear (some replaces +enfeebling)

ctrl + 7: dark gear
insert dark gear (mainly +dark magic)

ctrl + 8: melee gear
insert melee gear

Now, that is my main equip macroes, all filled with different pieces. This makes it a lot easier, as my spell macroes only inserts the correct elemental staff, and occasionally other gear that might be usefull for that spell. Easy enough, and makes it a lot easier. As an example, I insert +haste/fast cast gear for Haste and Refresh casting, as it shortens the recast timer, thus giving me more time to do other things.

And quite honestly, I have no idea why you refuse to equip Errant Houpelande, as Chausuble serves no purpose what-so-ever other then when casting drain/aspir, and perhaps while randomly nuking.

so you telling me that you are holding 321 enf while still holding 117int 124mnd I dought that actally i know that. me on the other hand without food and /whm is holding 935 hp 820mp 82int 73mnd and 308 enf (no int or mnd merits and 5 enf merits) and 9mak bonus on gravity macro (granite im still missing some key item tamas [almost there 8-1 home streach]) no hq rings just reg diamond and saphhire and reg rainbow instead of prism and soon have zenith crown)
for silince im 925hp 800mp 87mnd 75int and 312 enf. leaving me about 12-13 spots open in my inventory and minamal change need to armor where ever I go.

And with Errant's you'd have 92 MND, 83 INT, which is still better if your enfeebles stick. Just a question, why 9 MAB on Gravity?

So when I hear people with 2 or 3 jobs saying how bad they have it on gear, I think they must be somewhat disorganized or carrying with them stuff that should be muled cause they won't need easy access to it.
We don't all have gear overlaps, due to jobs at different levels or different functions. I keep all my ninja gear handy that I use at 75, enmity, evasion, ninjutsu, DD, everything, and I use everything I have that isn't muled at least once every week. I have a 58 thf, and I need to clear space to bring things in because I have a whopping 5 items that overlap from my ninja.

Here's a easy solution to all you "I don't have the inv room"

For 1 little dollar a month you get 80 extra inv spots for that job your not curently playing /shock

The mog locker rocks two. My characters blink more then utsusmi because I want to get all I can from my jobs. I have about 4 body pieces per job and understand if/when they all should be used.

As far as rdm body vs errant well I switch depending on the party set up. Yes I don't change gear on rdm as much as I should but its being played by off eye and I haven't rewrote macros on that pc yet.

If you got mp sinking mnk/wars that are to stuporn to sub nin or to lazy to lvl nin ill wear af body for that lil extra mp and ill enfeeble with blind on nin and para on rdm I don't do more then that unless its a it pull mamool or something. Mobs die to fast at 75 to worry about sticking a longer slow/para/blind instead of having that extra mp to dump into healing.

Now depending on how the party is rolling and my convert timers doing ill adjust acordingly. some people just don't take the game as serious, but they arnt getting 1228 jins on xp mobs either <3 ^^

The thing that pisses me off most is blms wear igqura gloves instead of af mitts.

I've been merriting elemental magic and just finished my 4th before a manaburn party. Without weskit elemental torque hq staffs or mahatma pannts they still had issues keeping up with my nukes and I wast getting hate cause I had tons of -enmity on.

Imo if your not gonna swap at least make sure your gear is best all rounded gear

Aka
mahatma/errant pants > blm af2 pants
O hat > walburn tonbon

Ps

All my gear /equip macros are pre wrote and seperated on there own macro page by slot so I can change on the fly. I 8 macros on ninja for what kind of gear setup, and 8-9 or something on blm.

Had 4 on whm I believe

Oh yeah blms that wear demon helms 24/7 bug me also lol. I was one, but I found mahatma hat to bennitfit me a lot more when my nukes were hitting full capacity getting that -enmity helps. Blm af hat is a better alternitive then demon helm.

My thoughts may change after fully merrited int -enmity and +mp till the that shits sold

its not a matter of sticking longer enfeebles, its about making them stronger. Slower slowing for more, Paralyze kicking in more often, Blind lowering the mob's Accuracy more.

I have 9mb on all my spells it seem to help. Paralize procs more, and seem silence and gravity last longer since I added them. 4 of af2 boots, 5 on zenith gloves, 5 on moldv earring.

Second time I have heard this in this thread. Again I ask, why? Are 75 Blms still under the mistaken impression that ele skill directly affects DMG? I am still having a hard time wrapping my head around giving up MAB for an extra 10 ele skill when you are not getting resisted. Unless you are doing gods or something resistant, I really don't see the point. To equate it to the melee side, it's the equivalant of members of an ax-burn party decking out in ACC instead of STR and eating Sushi instead of meat.

1. That one dollar a month does absolutely no good if all your gear is EX. This is the main problem for people who don't care enough to do exceptional damage when all they care about is just doing the job. They've played the job, done it the way it was meant to be played, but now just don't care enough to have one more item around that is negligeably better when they aren't concerned about being better or even playing the job for that matter.

2. You also own one account per job in the game. YOU ARE THE LAST PERSON TO SAY ANYTHING ABOUT INVENTORY SPACE.

3. Wizard Gloves are not better than Iqgira Manillas. +10 elemental +13 MP vs. +5 elemental +2 MAB. If I was to do gods as BLM, I would use the AF to reduce resists, but outside of gods and HNMs, Igqira is better.

4. Ohat is not better than Turban. They are both situational. If you have aggressor or focus up, you are probably better with the Turban. If you have good accuracy, the boost from Ohat is negligeable to the haste of the Turban. Conversly, if you can't hit the side of a barn, Ohat is going to be better than a turban since more swings does no good if you can't hit the mob.

Ive been trying to figure this out as well...

Elemental Magic Skill +5
Magic Attack Bonus +2

vs

MP +12
Charisma +3
Elemental Magic Skill +15
Enmity -1

It seems pretty clear to me, when it comes to wanting to do more damage and you dont have a pair of Zenith Mitts, Igqira Manillas are the next best thing. (Standard XP/Merit mobs of course)

MAB only helps on damaging spells

First off, I only level 1 non-75 at a time.

Next, besides AF which is storable, there are very few ex/rare pieces you really want for levleing jobs.

Moldevite? Bounding boots, empress hairpin? Your AF1 weapon? Carbie mitts(damned if you actually need those except for solo). You don't have the same amount of massive ex/rare that your lvl 75s get.

Ok, and as far as the question of hands.

The Zenith mitts all the way, unless you really need the boost. Just like Demon/AF head all the way unless you need the elemental boost from AF2 head. But some guys wear AF2 head for exp parties, and then they wear AF2 hands for every single nuke they cast.

Wh...wh.. wh... why?

I'm sure there are a few isolated people who claim they just don't give a shit and at the time they got all the AF2 they did give a shit.

But that doesn't explain why this has become not only the accepted standard for BLM, but THEY are the BLMs they people look up to!!!

It seems like most people don't even consider the utility or purpose of their gear and blindly wear whatever is the rarest to get.

Out of curiousity, did you personally ask the people who did this as to why they do it? I know my old BLM friend used to equip the best gear and rarely ever used macros for gear changes because he preferred to manually change gear on his own, but occasionally, he would forget a piece. One time he equipped Igqira head which is only useable for enfeebling and left it equipped while nuking. It might be they just didn't remember to change it, forgot that item in MH or soemthing else like that. I know I've forgotten pieces of gear and ended up just using something else in it's place just to have something equipped (Used Opaline Boots in exp a couple of times which wasn't noticeable at all while I was wearing my pantaloons  ).

This is not a single incident, it's a pattern I've noticed in the MAJORITY of all BLMs once they get situational gear for the last 2 years.

I'd say it's because they assume the difference is negligable, but the fact that most BLMs go for the HQ Ele staves and macro switch them but not other gear throws my assumption out the window. =/
