Kirin's Osode {I don't understand.}

I often see skilled, well equipped players wearing Kirin's Osode. I don't understand this.

The Osode gives +10 STR and +10 DEX, which means 5 atk/acc and a bit higher crit rate. Depending on the crit bonus (I'm thinking small) I would almost definitely choose even scorpion harness over Osode.

Why do monks ever wear this?
 
The only time I've seriously seen monks wearing Osode is for Chi Blast.
 
I don't know. I'm usually stuck in 1 body piece the whole time on MNK-Shura Togi.

Maybe somepeople just get tired of the look and want to put on something else? Not the best reason I guess.

It's always eluded me too.

There was an opinion on Genome's page (ffxi wiki > monk > Genome guide) that after doing the math, that osode was actually better for mnk.

While i think thats a lot of crap, it could explain if some monks were believing it.
 
Osode is good for Chi Blast, and its better for DK/HF macros since the mods actually do something for those WS. I would never TP in that over Togi though.
 
Maybe they don't have a Togi to TP in? You can buy Osode's in a bunch of bazaars, but Togi's you have to be in a sky shell to get.

Obviously I mean other than the osode. They have black belt, faith torque, etc.

I was just wondering if I missed something.
 
People tend to make too many generalisations. I'm just going to go ahead and say my 'catch phrase' here.

maybe the osode breaks a crit tier?
I'm just making shit up at this point but since i have no D body and never will bother with that thing if/when i do get mnk 75 I probably would consider the idea of using it for a crit setup vs colibri since the next best option is only a 5 acc difference. Besides, by the time i get mnk 75 i'd probably be close to maat cap and i'd definetly be sure i could break a crit tier then.
 
From what i've heard, from a few places, is that osode outparses togi because of the extra crits. I haven't actually seen the parse results, and until I do, I'll wear my togi proudly

I would love to see the parsing data where an Osode outparses Togi and the gear used to beat it.
 
Osode beats Scorpion Harness unless your accuracy really bows. You're pretty much comparing 5 attack and 5 accuracy to 10 accuracy. Oh boy.

I'll take 5 acc over 5 att in an 8 hit WS any day of the week.

Don't think Skaw was specifically referring to Osode with Asuran. Moreso the use of Osode in TPing.

If you were going for Crits, wouldn't Pali Body be more suited for this? +10 Acc and I think the Crit increase is 2~3% less maybe Osode gives more?

I agree tho, Shura Togi to TP in > Osode. 20 attack and 10 acc is more than Osode has to offer.
 
pal body is broken and SE hasnt fixed it yet. That thing actually gives you a negative crit rate alteration according to parses.

Suggesting to TP in Osode, and swap to Scorpion Harness for Asuran then? That'd be an interesting strategy.

this is what i thought first when i read this thread. people wear what they can till they get what they want. next player you see wearing an osode over togi just ask em.
