Looking to beef up the power of my BLU

This topic confuses me. Do BLUs seriously not macro on +acc/+atk gear on when they melee between casts? Because if so, that's just hurting your overall dmg. Anytime your sword(s) land(s) a hit, you should have strictly melee gear on or you're gimping it up. I've seen at least 5 people say "I don't have accuracy issues" but I promise you, you do. Maybe you just don't notice it between your spell spam or maybe you're just fighting really wussy mobs like greater colibri, but you are still missing more than you should be, trust me. Parse it sometime and you'll see what I'm talking about. With straight str/atk gear, you'll probably be doing like 75% acc at best, maybe a little better with merits. I know on my drk with full scythe merits and an abyssal I still have like 40+ acc on my tping gear. People need to realize that STR really doesn't do much on your normal tp swings.

Edit: Lol at bot---------v

Not really no, the only thing i really macro in and out is dusk for pallas. If I am having acc issues, ill use ohat, swift belt, and snipers. (+10 acc bonus from disseverment and frenetic rip on top of this)

When are we not fighting wussy mobs? The only time I merit on blu is in blucannons, meaning greater colibri. So yup, there is no need for me to be swapping gear for no reason.

I am literally casting about every 5 seconds, swapping gear in and out that often would do close to nothing. Because half the time i'd be swinging during a spell, with my spell gear on. So I fail to see your logic.

And for those of you telling ruffy to use meat...lol. I'd say 75% of blu's damage is in their spells, your going to want all those hits to land. And you especially need the acc for headbutt, since your gunna be using that every 5-10 seconds.

EDIT: Nvm, I can't read the fact that it didn't add up, and the spell column was just plain missing. All the same, uh ... you did 3650 damage in WS's over the course of *54* battles? Use that in conjunction with the numbers for average WS damage, and it's kinda telling about how fast you gain TP...

EDIT 2: Average 400 damage WS means about 9 WS total. 9 WS in 54 battles means it takes 6 mobs for you to get TP ...

Also about this, I'm guessing he was putting most his tp into spells, and just ws'd once in a blue moon. It's probably the smarter thing to do until you get sea spells. The best self sc without sea spells is probably Vorpal > hysteric barrage (or savage > cannonball if /thf), both are pretty meh. So i'd probably just use tp into frenetic rip or hysteric barrage.

I guess it really all depends on what your fighting, macro set, and your lvl.

Apparently no one posting in this topic knows how to properly use macros, lol. And swinging during spells? k..

I do swing during utsusemi sometimes, but its just a timing glitch coming from dual-wield, double-attack, and multi-hit weapons. Before they fixed the disengage/reengage glitch, you could swing right at the start and as soon as casting finished on :ichi, was pretty pimp.
If you're properly using macros unless its an instantcast spell this can easily be avoided. The only spelltype of this kind I can think of for BLU off the top of my head is Headbutt, which I would assume you would load up on acc/haste anyway, which should be in the melee gear.
That being said, even if you macro out the attack gear as you start casting a spell, the amount of times you would lose out because of swinging at the start of the spellcast is very minimal, and I haven't seen any tests to prove whether macroing out melee gear after the first attack in your attack set actually would make the following hits less effective.

If you start your spell right around the time you start swinging, it's possible to get your swings in during the spell animation, and it's therefore likely the equip change might affect the swings (EDIT: actually, thinking more about it, it seems less likely unless there's a wait in the macro between the gear swap and starting the spell).

This is, however, fairly easily solved (particularly if /NIN due to the summed delay) by paying attention to your swings and hitting your macro shortly after you swing (or if /NIN, shortly after you get your first swing in; the second one's already calculated at that time even if it hasn't animated yet).

Yes, but your attack isn't actually happening "while you cast", it's a lag "glitch" that makes it look like to you that you're doing both at the same time. Assuming you're using macros, this is irrelevant and won't be affected by your gear swapping. But yes, I know what you're talking about.

Thanks vil, I was assuming that, but wasn't sure one way or the other.

I figured you knew, was just clarifying!

Easy enough to test - go find some lowbie mob that'll die in exactly two hits, while using two weapons yourself. Smack it and watch its HP bar go to zero (and the little treasure pool icon show up, if you're partied or have a full inv, and it drops something) just as your attack starts animating. Rather than a bit later when you've finished animating both hits and the damage has shown up in the log and the mob actually visibly keels over dead.

Another way to test is by using a visible equip swap though it may be hard to get the timing right - do it at the start of the animation and you'll skip the animation entirely, and both hits will instantly show up in the log. (And if the mob was gonna keel over dead, it would therefore do it that much sooner.)

Really it's more of a common sense thing if you think about it. Just do a multi-hit ws and you'll see that the health bar of the mob drops all at once and you get immediate tp return rather than seeing it drop / tp calculated during each hit. Multi-hit weapons are the same. Actually it's really easy to see on MNK. Start an attack cycle with damage displayed on chatlog. After your first punch jam a gear swap macro and you'll see your chatlog flooded with all of the damage your punches/kick just did. Really easy to see w/ a k.club too.

Newp :( I've played w/ one before though, hehe.

(My Rappa only has WHM and BRD lvl'd joke of the week)

You're right, you could still see the effect of kclub on WHM.
