My friend brough something up today that kinda caught my attention. He was talking about how him and his LS were gonna go after Crimson-Toothed for the Carby Mitts, and we ended up on the topic of who was all coming along. He mentioned how everyone coming was either going to level SMN or has leveled SMN to an extent. We got on the topic of how I wouldn't level SMN past 10 without all the summons (including Fenrir), Carby Mitts, the element staves +1, Light Spirit, and the Austere Set waiting for me. (I realize it's a large list, but I just don't wanna be gimp)
So then he starts talking about one of the SMN guys that were coming along still needed the Mitts for himself. Then I found out he's level 70, and not only doesn't have the Mitts yet, also doesn't have Fenrir.

I just need some of the FFXI/QCDN veterans on here to leave an opinion on this. Would you consider that SMN to be lazy, gimped, selfish (for leveling without working for it), decent, respectable, or whatever.

I'm not flaming anyone, I just wanna know your opinions.
 
i'm not lvling smn till i have all the avatars, carby mitts, and can bang all the fights as 75rdm/nin and have nothing else the do then play a job i can't stand :wink:

i dont think you can call him gimped per say but deffinatly not playing it to his full potential

General Diss. you are seeing if this guys is Gimp so make a pole and put it there
 
Some people don't have the time or meanings to actually get the summon, maybe they don't know that many high level players to help him get it, maybe he can't spent 500k or more to "hire" 5 other people to do it for him.

Just so that you know, Fenrir was introduced to the game on February 26 2004, before that there were people who played SMN too, and without fenrir of course, you don't *have* to have(sorry about the redundancy) Fenrir in order to play the job well, what do you get from Fenrir? Dispel every minunute, mobs buffs themselves faster than every 60 seconds, Eclipse bite is nice, but other avatars have nice moves too, Ecliptic Howl and growl are great I won't deny it, but sometimes you need to do another bloodpact instead of those.

Please don't judge people about what they have or lack, other day I was in a PT with my MNK, we had this RDM with vermillion's cloak, those MP earrings, dark earrings I believe, the HQ2 ones, HQ MND and INT rings and a bunch of stuff, japanese too I believe, but he was a below the avarage RDM, then he left, got another RDM to replace him, some guy with regular gear nothing special, but was performing his job correctly.

In my opinion, if you lack something and learn how to go by without it, countering your "weakness" you become a better player.
 
It's not really "general discussion" though... It's more of a general flame if anything. It's not a personal flame. I'm kinda asking if the guy should be considered "gimp" or not, as a bit of a flame, but without releasing any names.

Besides, if you quit the game or whatever, why are you still on QCDN, After?
 
Oh, I'm not saying the guy's bad or anything. According to my friend he played his job well. I'm just saying he's a little lazy for spending all that time leveling and not spending time getting Fenrir, or the Carby Mitts for that matter. My equip isn't top-notch either, but I don't level at all, or do things to benefit myself. I spend most of my time helping others. Apparently the SMN guy spends all of his time leveling. In my opinion, that's lazy.
 
Fenrir is very useful past 43 but Carbuncle Mitts are not an item that is particulary useful in party. I use carbuncle in party next to never. Not to say you are wrong about the guy, no Fenrir at 70 is pretty bad, but Fenrir is useful past 43 to get him honest, you DO needa 70+ job so you can either follow the camp that Fenrir is not a neccisity or that SMN is supposed to be a job for people on their second or later job.

With summonerrs you never really know, so many out there with strange inefficient strategies and many unwilling to furfill their party's needs(often main healing). But I'd say myself personally being willing to heal as a SMN made me more useful than I would have been without even if as a healer I didn't have fenrir. So I can't say with the information given we can judge this SMN fairly I think a good SMN could definetly adapt and be useful even without Fenrir because the standards of SMN are set so very low.

I don't care, but you seem to be unbelievably bias against whatever I have to say. Be it in my rant, my flame against Delite, and now this. Even posts I just generally post to, you have to be against me. That's not a bad thing. I'd just prefer you butt out a little bit.

Well, I know what I'm talking about to an extent. What I don't know is what other people think about it. Thus, I posted on the flameboard.

Ahh, the irony of calling someone a "dumbass" with bad grammar.

"I know what I'm talking about to an extent," meaning that I know what I'm talking about, but I wouldn't mind the opinions of some. Just to hear some criticism. You, however, seem to be bias against everything I say, and it's just annoying already. How about you let some people that wanna actually have a word in it have a word in it and stop complaining, okay?
