Mages of Today

...Which kinda brings up something comical that I made up. You see a Tarutaru running for his life when he's fleeing. You see Mithra and Humes kinda jog-run. But then you see Galka and Elvaan who kinda walk. If they're running from something it's like "OMG walk for your life!!" hahaha
(I realise the game's made fair for every race to move the same generally, but still, you gotta admit, it's pretty funny watching an Elvaan try to escape a huge monster's wrath by barely jogging haha)

you forgot to mention that Elvaan have best CHR... if my memory serves me right <.<; haven't really thought abotu CHR much since no jobs I play needs it <.<;

I thought hume had the highest starting CHR in the game x_o;

and CHR is important for... like... using mad skillz in.. yeah XD

Elvaan do have the best CHR and I believe the best MND rating as well (haven't really checked it out lately but I seem to remember that). CHR is important for BST and BRD, if you have no interest in those jobs then that's a different issue--but it is a useful ability score.

In end game, gear and merits can pretty much make everyone the same stat wise. Seriously, I'm a Mithra that can have 160 INT and over 1k MP.

Comparison to CHR stat for all the races for BRD Lv70 with no extra equipment... Hume=62, Taru=62, Elvaan=62, Mithra=54, Galka=54.

This kinda creeps me out now, because I used to think that Humes had the best CHR in the game... now I know that Hume, Taru, and Elvaan have the same, which kinda kills the whole thing of being a Hume... What IS good about them then? >.>

The fact that Humes can play really any job without any large penalty...

There's probably no job that Hume is best at... but there's also no job that we're really bad at either (and all the other races have at least a couple of jobs that are pretty difficult for them because of stats...)

No, elvaan have the best STR and MND in the game. CHR is all but even among hume, elvaan and taru. Mithra and Galka have a little lower CHR.

I totally agree. That's why in my opinion, people should either read up on what job they wanna be as before they start playing, or start off as Hume and try every job and then make a new character that works best with that job (like I did). In any rate, Hume PLD, DRK, BRD, and RDM are good because those jobs need a huge array of stats. PLD needs HP, MP, VIT, MND, DEX, etc and no race has all of those built into one except Hume. DRK need HP, MP, STR, INT, DEX, etc. RDM need pretty much every stat. RDM are basically the job version of Hume, because they have a little bit of everything.

PLD doesn't need DEX or MND all that much, it's mainly just HP and VIT at endgame. MP is nice, but a lot of the best pld gear converts mp -> hp, and with refresh + ballad, they don't need to have a huge mp pool.

Drk don't need much in the way of hp, except for maybe soul eater, but that rarely kills them on it's own. Drk's mainly stack STR and accuracy; INT would only be for absorb spells and for a Spinning Slash macro. MP's not used so much that they need a huge pool of MP, since aspir/refresh would usually be enough for them.

Rdm are really only interested in hp/mp, int and mnd. Since they never melee or tank(or shouldn't) in a party, str, vit, agi, dex don't matter. HP/MP are prefered to be fairly balanced(for convert), but unless you're a taru, you're going for mp not hp.

Hume isn't the best at any job, but they're never intended to be; they are a trade-off between speciality and versatility. Rather than be the best at something, they're rather the second/third best at everything.

Another example would be Kirin the other day.

What kind of taru-BLM can survive a 900 tail smash? I know Elvaans can, and did :P

Kirin one-shotted me and I'm a hume WHM. Then again I have about 850HP and I had my Errant Gear on. I still don't know how I got hate. @_@

PLD need MND for spell resists and magic defence. It's not a big deal, but that attribute never really is. Yeah, they get lots of MP > HP stuff, but they should have MP to convert into HP and still have MP left over for Flash and self cures. Especially before Ballad. DRK are like 90% WAR, 10% BLM, and that 10% BLM needs MP and INT. DEX is also nice, because it doesn't matter how much damage they do if they don't attack fast and accurately. HP really isn't that big of a deal for DRK, but considering the damage they do, they'd better not have the HP that a SMN would have. A nice balance of INT, MND, HP, and MP isn't found on any race but Hume, so Hume's still best for that.
However, I still say Mithra is the best at overall stats (and looks), and I like Taru because I love MP and I love how damn agile we are. I out-evade my PLD Mithra friend by lots, and she's higher level than myself.

I like every race in it's own way. I personally wouldn't go anything other than Taru or Mithra though, but that's just my own opinion. Everyone likes their own race, and I fully respect that. Bringing back the original conversation part of this, I'm just saying that every race has it's own good jobs and it's own bad jobs, and it's just surprising how many people choose bad jobs for their race.

For someone who doesn't seem to have even leveled Paladin or Dark Knight ever, you sure seem to act like you know a lot about them.

Admittedly, I don't know as much about DRK and PLD as some, but I don't just go around and level up all day. I spend a lot of my time researching the game. It's how I got good at it. Besides, anyone that knows anything about attributes knows that MND, VIT, HP, and MP are all great for PLD, and STR, INT, DEX, HP, MP are all great for DRK.
And I don't just spend all my time researching in for WHM or BLM or something, I help other people, and helping other people teaches me a lot about other jobs too. What their capabilities are, what they're good to do, what they need, how they're good.

So basically I probably don't know as much about PLD as you do, Cythe, but I know enough about the game to know a lot about PLD.

If I was in a party with you and saw you cast refresh on a Drk when the whm didn't have it, I would let you know you weren't performing your job optimally.

I guess it's not neccesarily the casting order as much as it is the order of importance.
Rdm first because you can't cast Spells with no MP
Pld next so he can keep hate without running out of MP
Whm next so noone dies.
Blm after that because it won't hurt for a blm to sit during a battle, it allows the tank time to establish some hate.
and noone else really maters as faras refresh goes. Give it to a Drk once every 3 fights or so.

did you not notice that i said "It never drops, unless there is a long downtime in the party" play with me and tell me that i dont play rdm good. If refresh and haste never drops, which in the who knows how many fing hours i've partied rdm it doesn't, then you shouldn't need a order. I'm sorry if you party with rdm's that think refresh and haste have to wear before it can be recasted :rolleyes:

I find it irfunny how wrong you are Thnikkaman. MND gives no magical defence against black magic. I could post the full formula for black magic damage, but I don't think you'd understand it.
Also, PLD don't really need MND for resistance, since the only offensive magic I've ever seen a PLD use is Flash, and that RARELY get resisted. vbmenu_register("postmenu_261791", true);

Is mnd the only stat he got wrong?

I'm not a PLD or DRK, so I won't comment on that. I'm sure DRK's and PLD's would like to though

Although, I'm sure DEX doesn't affect attack speed either :P

Also, doing this is just plain stupid. All races can be good at all jobs. I really hope you don't expect people to create a new character for every job they play, or I will /blist you right here and now, because that's a stupid requirement.

I agree, and i want to add that some persons like the "challenge" of leveling the "wrong" job for their race :D
