Man bursts into flames after Taser shock

So it's hard to say that all situations a taser may be used in are justified.

This case is straight forward, there was only one person making a scene.

I fully support the use of tasers when need be, but you're right, they aren't always required. Sometimes it might be viewed as excessive and I understand that. I just have a hard time feeling sympathy for an indiviual who can't be reasonable and put officers or others at risk, then cry when action is taken.

lol Edited, I'm not going to try to argue with someone who wont even get it.

I hear ya.

I haven't any sympathy for someone who really has brought it upon themselves.

This guy was obviously crazed. And although I don't know whether he would even be worth keeping alive (sorry if that offends) in the sense that he may never be of the right mind etc.. his family will be quite broken up about it obviously.

But they didn't use the tool with the knowledge it would be the end cause of his death.

In this case they hadn't much choice unfortunately. Or at least they didn't feel they had.

Yeah, you don't want to burst into flames after being tased? Don't douse yourself in gasoline and assault a cop.

People this stupid deserve what they get.

wow, proof that you didn't even read the thread aside from the first three or so posts.

i think i'll go read the first two sections of the Canadian Constitution and start making political commentary about Canada in general.

Doused himself in gasoline and charged at police was all I needed to read to see who was the idiot here. Ok I read it, nevermind, it's OK. I was wrong. He had been sniffing glue. Bad cop, bad.

Your constitution contradicts itself within the first three paragraphs, ergo Canada is backward and should not be trusted. That's all I needed to read to come to that conclusion.

Uh ok, so what does that have to do with anything? I read the whole thing from the beginning, it's pretty short and everything after the first few lines was irrelevant. We can make this about Canada V. US if you want though. I'll start with "Wow and American who knows we have a constitution in the first place! Let's listen to what he thinks about it!"

Mire, in all honesty, the man was throwing chairs and computers, speaking a language unknown to the officers, and they were speaking one unknown to him. He could have turned at any time, if they really used gestures to try and calm him down then it would have to be his fault for not complying. In a situation where someone is already lashing out in a violent manner 24 seconds can seem an eternity, especially when an unknown foreginer is throwing shit in public for unknown reasons. It's not just the officers safety that they have to worry about, its the safety of the general public as well, that is who the police serve, not themselves.

Don't know about you guys, but I burst out laughing when I read the title.
Too much, too much.

wooooooosh. you missed the point entirely, but that's ok. protip while we're here: this isn't about canada vs. the us.

In all honesty, I do not get why you argue with Acutie Trist. You flame bated him on the very first post he made in this thread writing that:

wow, proof that you didn't even read the thread aside from the first three or so posts.

i think i'll go read the first two sections of the Canadian Constitution and start making political commentary about Canada in general.
After that you do it again after his seocnd post:
Your constitution contradicts itself within the first three paragraphs, ergo Canada is backward and should not be trusted. That's all I needed to read to come to that conclusion.
And then again with your latest post.

Do tell me what it IS about, since every post you've made towards him has been about USA vs Canada, and you've made no attempt to show otherwise. How about you stop bitching and just tell us what its about then? Stop beating around the god damned bush in an attempt to be funny (protip: You're neither funny not cool right now.).

What it's about is that he chose to jump at me about my initial mis-reading of the article yesterday, when I hadn't known the culprit had doused himself in gasoline. What it's about is the line "only in America would this be seen as a bad thing". What it's about is what should have been a misunderstanding, but blossomed into something a bit bigger.

Did I facilitate that? Sure. I'm a little horked off that the thread wasn't going in the direction of "u stupid Amurricans" until he decided to make that boneheaded remark.

Get off my junk, I'm not trying to be funny or cute or cool, I'm still righteously pissed off at his remark yesterday, and justifiably so. Nobody edit(made a) remark about how any non-US citizens were trumping their own feelings about tasering, so why even bring nationality into it?

Man, some people are dense around here these days.

Well Trist chalk it up to ignorance. Plus, if you want to get technical he did say America.. and we are all part of America =)

Same shit different day here on QCDN.

Everything always comes to nationality and someone always gets insulted.

Sorry some people still tend to make bone head remarks.

If this had been in Texas that guy would have got shot, not tazed (lol). then this would have degenerated into an anti-gun issue. but even then i would have said the officer was in the right, and i hate guns.

I'm not so much against tazers & guns as i'm against excessive force. be it physical force, gun useage, or a tazer. if some guy is covered in gas, holding a lighter, and makes a dash at me he is going down by any means necessary. if that officer did not have a tazer but a gun instead, i can say with certainty that guy would have gotten a round pumped into him at least.

The body condition argument can be applied to almost anything. suppose a violent criminal breaks into a store brandishing a gun and starts firing random shots to get the crowd under control. a store pedestrian manages to tackle the guy to the ground and injures him in the process cause the robber has a bum knee, or has back issues or whatever. how is he supposed to know that? he was far more concerned about the lives of the people int he store then the robber. whatever action you take be prepared to suffer the consequences, cause you brought them on yourself.

and as for the dude in the airport? i think the term "premeditated" is getting a little stretched. In the leagal system "premeditated murder", for example, implys that persones beforehand layed out an ajenda to kill someone else. that was the goal of the plan, to kill. a couple of officers who hear about a guy throwing, not just a tantrum, but objects that can cause serious harm to others laying out a plan to subdue a violent individual is not premeditation, that's their SOP. they don't wait till they get here to figure out what to do. if cops did that, they'd be even more hated for a lack of appropriate action. what if they had shot the guy? that would have been excessive force IMO, cause the bullets may have injured the bystanders as well as caused undue harm to the perp. so they taze him 5 times. how big was this guy? do we know? anyone who knows cop and has seen Hangover will remember the tazer scene and know that part with the fat guy is actually true. bigger fellows don't always go down with 1 zap.

So it all boils down to you being pissed that you misread the article where it said in the very first line he had dowsed himself in gasoline and someone correcting you on it?

What Acutie said wasn't even directly targeted at you. He said he found all defenses for the guy in this thread as absolute shit. Maybe I'm special, but I wouldn't take that as offensive if I had been on the guy's side.

That's enough bickering, please guys and gals. Debating is good, but bickering... not so much. :)

Your constitution contradicts itself within the first three paragraphs, ergo Canada is backward and should not be trusted. That's all I needed to read to come to that conclusion.

Yes, because one forum poster speaks for all of Canada... Or something like that.

Anyway, he did have it coming, but I still don't know if it was a good idea considering that the cops themselves could have gotten hurt. The dude was obviously not mentally stable.

Read the actual article on it. Using gestures over the course of 24 seconds, wow how could he not have grasped what they were trying to say?! The guy was in the airport for something like 9 hours looking for his mother who was supposed to meet him, little did he know that the airport officials told her that he was not at the airport, so she went home thinking he missed his flight. It was handled entirely poorly on the RCMP's part.

They didn't even check for a pulse and he only got CPR 15 minutes later when the paramedics came. That's called negligence folks.

tragic as these events may be. none of them are an excuse for him to destroy airport property and endanger the welfare of the people around him. what if one of those monitors hit & injured a child, or worse a baby? these are the things the men and women in uniform have to consider when dealing with a violent situation.

and on top of that the moment he saw police officers he should have stopped immediately. police have a semi-uniform appearance even in different countries. Uniforms aren't identical, but you should be able to tell an on duty cop from a regular citizen. unless they are non-patrolmen and wear civvies, but even so those officers are required to identify themselves as policemen/women the moment they are on site.

Agreed. There is absolutely NO POINT in throwing chairs and moniters just because your mom isn't at the airport, either call her or get a damned taxi. He was destroying property without concern, endangering those around him without concern, so if he doesn't rationalize in a time that they saw fit ( idc how long 1sec - 100 hours) then its their choice what to do with the subject, who cares it was only 24 seconds, how many minutes/hours before they arrived was he acting like a 2 year old little bitch throwing a tempur tantrum because his mommy wasn't their to pick him up. Grow up, or man up to whats in store for your dumb ass.
