Just curious to see if there are any good old fashion metalheads populating our wonderful server. To avoid confusion, I'm talking about death, thrash, melodic, brutal, tech, even black metal (no nu-metal, hardcore, metalcore, etc.). If you do, post some bands that you like.

Some bands I'm listening to currently are Gojira, Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Amon Amarth, Malevolent Creation, Arsis, Belphegor, Yyrkoon, Slayer, Grave, Krisiun, Kronos, etc.

I would enjoy to hear from some fellow metalheads and maybe spread some of your favorites to others. o_ob

did someone say metal? i love metal and hardcore..and metalcore...im a lover of anything with melody that is heavy

A thread about real metal where all the bands are linked to myspace profiles....hmmmm...something just doesn't seem right here. Owell. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for true metal, I just find it a little surprising that fucking Cannibal Corpse, possibly the most brutal band of all time, has a damn myspace page.

Anyways...
My top 3 fav bands: 1. Metallica
2. Tool (you probably don't listen to them)
3. Lamb of God

Some others I listen to that fall within your parameters: Black Sabbath, DevilDriver, Coal Chamber, Death(these guys fucking RULE!), Nevermore, Gojira, Sepultura, Obituary, Dying Fetus, Morbid Angel, Pantera, Flotsam and Jetsam, Slayer, Testament, Daath, Arch Enemy, Meshuggah, Chimaira, and maybe a few more I forgot about.

I listen to other stuff too though: Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Disturbed, Fear Factory, Droid, Superjoint Ritual, Down, Mudvayne, Korn, Godsmack, Mushroomhead, White/Rob Zombie, Rammstein, Static-X, Alice in Chains, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, Janice Joplin, Grateful Dead, ACDC, Opeth(you might like them idk), Anthrax, Primus, A Perfect Circle, Puscifer, and Tenacious D.

I think that's about it. I usually stick to the heavier stuff, but every once in awhile I get in the mood for some old classic rock or w/e and I'll throw that in.

Awesome, I listen to the majority of all those bands, even a lot of those that fall out of "my parameters" at one point in time (and yes, even tool) o_ob

And towards the whole myspace thing, sadly, even the metal world has fallen victim to the free webspace available at myspace. Many of my favorite bands have dropped their own websites simply linking it to their myspace. But out of pure laziness, I just used myspace instead of hunting down all their (possibly broken) websites.

2. Tool (you probably don't listen to them)

I think every Tool song I've ever heard sounds exactly the same, and I had a buddy that listened to them religiously, so it's not just the radio plays.

Tenacious D does rule though, so you're even in my book.

Hey Dav, since you used it I'm sure you have at least some idea of what it means: nu-metal. What exactly is that? I hear the term all the fucking time but I've never actually heard anyone call any specific band "nu-metal". Can you give me an example or something?

I'm not exactly an expert but from my understanding it is a new-wave genre that kinda mixes alternative rock and industrial metal. Bands like Slipknot, Korn, and maybe Disturbed are some decent examples. Not exactly metal but heavy enough to consider themselves contributors to the genre. Hope that kinda clears it up for you.

Yeah I kinda had a feeling that's what people were talking about. I don't know how I feel about it, I know I really hate alot of the "metal" they play on the radio, but it's not all bad. I like bands like oldKorn and Mudvayne and Disturbed and etc, but I fucking HATE bands like 3 Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, Seether, Foo Fighters, and that whole Atreyu subgenre of "metal". Seriously, wtf is up with that stuff? This one guy I know is really into Atreyu and he made me listen to this mix cd filled with bands that all sound exactly like them. It sounds like someone took alternative rock, gave the guitars some more distortion, threw in an emo scream once in awhile and called it metal. Makes me wanna fuckin puke.

I like power metal >_>

That being said, Rhapsody and Iced Earth are the bands I've mainly listened to.

Totally derailing

You listen to Shai Hulud or Strongarm? I guess you could say they were
"pioneers of metal+hardcore" back in the mid 90s. Check out Strongarm's Advent of a Miracle. It's such an amazing album every kid should have this, it's just that much of a staple. Yeah, it's totally Christian hardcore/metal but you don't need to be Christian to enjoy such a powerful album.

And Shai Huluds... well, almost anything really. Their first album, Hearts Once Nourished with Hope and Compassion, was really just a badass album to say the least. It was such a rough and hard sound at the time with great breakdowns. Check out the song A Profound Hatred of Man (notice this reoccurring theme of misanthropy? lol it's a signature theme of theirs). Their next full length album, That Within Blood Ill-Tempered, is really what I consider a masterpiece, it's not really metal and not really hardcore but it has a melodic feel to it as well. Favourite song in the album is easily Let us at Last Praise the Colonizers of Dreams. Just like an orgasm in my ears srsly.

But their newest album, which came out not even a few days ago feels out of touch for me =/ too much metal in it and I don't like this forth new singer; though it's tough to follow up in the shadows of Chad (first full length, was 15/16 of age when he started) and Geert (Dutch guy they picked up during a tour, second full length).

Chimaira- Resurrection

I've got some Slayer, Children of Bodom, Arch Enemy, In Flames, Lamb of God, just to name a few.

My collection isn't really big right now but I'm getting there.

No way I could list my favorites, that wouldn't be fair to my thoughts, and the board would break. I'll just give you the run-down on bands currently in my receiver.

Opeth (old)
Arsis
Darkane
Soilwork (old)
Dark Tranquility
Graveworm
Marduk
Immortal
Aborted
At the Gates (gettin' ready for that reunion tour11!!111elventybillionmore!)

They're pretty awesome. Did you know they did a Britney Spears cover? I thought it was kinda funny. They do really wierd covers...never metal, they always take really gay shit and turn it into metal.

Yeah, I was told by my LS. In fact my LS got me into a lot more metal recently.
