Metal Gear Solid 4 - Official Thread

Just got back from the midnight launch at Gamestop and did the install, but I have work int he morning so I can't play tonight. Fortunately I took Friday off just for this reason. Can't wait to play.

It was actually fun standing in line, at about 11:30 they started asking trivia questions and giving away prizes. I walked away with a ton of stuff (and gave the answer to one of the questions to the guy next to me since they said I couldn't answer any more).
 
What do you guys mean by 'install'?

(Dont know your ps3 lingo, buying the bundle pack so ill be new to the system)
 
Games get a portion installed to the hard drive to minimize load times. For example, in GTA4, load times were very rare, and if there were loads, they were really short, and the installation to the hard drive is what allowed it.
 
But sometimes they require an install, and it only helps marginally, so webcomics and fanboys everywhere throw a fit in both directions, as was the case with DMC4.
 
I think my PS3 has bit the dust, but I am not sure if it is the game or not. Had a launch 60gig. It froze once during a codec call, and I thought nothing of it. When I tried going through again, it froze at a different spot, and when I took the disc out, it was covered in this weird residue. It looked like it was just fingerprints, but it was impossible since it was brand new and in the system and not able to be touched.
 
MGS4 is so epic it breaks Ps3s? Hope you have warranty, dude.
 
Yeah, easily replaceable. I just don't want to wait. And I don't think it is the game. The system has been running hotter than normal lately, so I kind of figured it was on its way out. A marathon session of MGS4 probably didn't help it in this 95 degree heat either.
 
That's your story but I'mma stick with MGS4 being that awesome.

I should be able to get mine in about 5 hours when EB games opens.
 
Okay, this is fucked up. I called EB to see what time they open and some how I dialed Marajades number. <_<; I'm 100000000% sure I dialed EB.

It was

I got my copy replaced. It turns out that I just got a disgusting copy. I put the disc in while it was dark, so I didn't even notice the residue that was on the game when I put it in. Just cleaned my system of the stuff and it works perfectly fine now ^^
 
I need to find a way to GameStop and pick up my copy :\ booo no car...
 
just got my copy in the mail now and i am installing,

can i just say that the graphics of snake smoking are fucking phenominal

oh and gamestop hasn't charged my account yet for the game >.> the charge was in there a couple of days ago and now its gone lol

not gonna go crazy with spending for a couple days though just in case

I could take a bus.. but I hate buses :P and I could bike.. but it's FAR away.. I'll just ask my dad to take me when he gets home if he has time :P (unlike other children, I don't take their parent's cars XD)

yet they give GTA IV 9.8? :| anger! cause GTA IV had so many disappointing points... even going with their "realism" they fucking left out so much in other GTAs that are real! (Bikes.. hell.. there's tons of bikes in New York city... or parachutes, more clothes, custom radio stations using music off your PS3/360... etc)

And what the fuck? they gave the story an 8.7?! Yet they gave GTA IV a much better score story-wise -_- bullshit.. the story easily's gotta be a 10... :| fuck them... fuck them hard! Ah well.. fuck stupid number scoring anyways
