Metal Gear Solid 4 - Official Thread

For someone who claims to not care about ratings, you sure are doing some bitching and whining about ratings.

Also, perhaps the game deserves it's score, but your fandom won't let you accept to recognize any flaws. Much in the way Ned Flanders can't see beyond his godiphilia to recognize evolution.

So ok... Here is just some honesty... From watching a friend and switching on and off with him playing the game. He finished it last night, i decided not to until i had my own copy today. So i know pretty much what i need to know.

The reviewers so far have been very honest lol... And be thankfull they did not add MGO to the reviews that are out atm... The online sucks so much, for hard core fans i am sure you would love it if it were stick figures with the same MGS names...

Now in my opinion... (Need to state that first as my flame shield from you MGS fanboy fiends)

The visuals are slightly above par. The art style is the same as a shooter like CoD4. That being said the visuals are not advanced compared to CoD4 at all... Thats not a bad thing tho.

Gameplay and control have been very fine tuned, i am very pleased with the controls. Past MGS games have completly blown in the control department. This version has almost simplified them without losing anything. The gameplay is what you make it, i mean the level design is very very linear... That being said you can pretty much just shoot to kill and dont need to be the super stealth dude... Kinda made me scratch my head. If you do choose the super stealth dude aproach (i would recommend it) the game is very cool and pleasing. Some pleasing Boss battles... Kinda tough for me tho lol.

Story is very meh to me man. The game felt like Pirates of the Carribean 3. All this bs just bunched together and feels so messy. There are some very cool twists and very cool scenes sure but seriously... Over done... Glad they cleared some of the cooler characters stories up during the mess.

I see no replay factor for me in this game.
Now before cloc and ele rate me down all day... I still think it was a great game. I hate the MGS series and think its crap, yet i enjoyed this. there is a very "Cool movie" feeling how Kojima set this game up, i felt something similar my first time through gears of war. Anyways enjoy.

lol.. GTA IV had a good story but how could it possibly compare to MGS series at all? That's my pissy attitude about it. Ratings or not.. but when someone claims GTA anything has a better story than MGS anything... that's just fucking bs :| MGS' prides itself on story where as GTA prides itself on sandbox-ness. From what I know about MGS4, I don't see how it's worse than GTA IV, story-wise :| but I'll have a more accurate judging once I finish the game :P

And Osyris, when's the last time I rated you down? :P I don't think I have.. I know I've argued with you a bunch, and that's fine and dandy, but I'm not gonna rate you down for your opinion, as wrong as it might be (haw haw)

i don't pay attention to scores and ratings of these websites, honestly i give more merit to the ratings from people who rate games on gamefly, even then they are scattered and random, so what i guess this boils down to is you should really take these ratings with a grain of salt and maybe form your own opinion about the game?

Being a metal gear fanboy, i'd like to hear the review of a person that tried it that isn't a metal gear fanboy to see how they liked it. I generally don't trust online reviews, because they are always either way to pro-game or way to con-game.

Anyone else like osy play this game yet?

See you really can quote anything you want and make something seem like something its not... I said i hate the series. I said this version impressed me... I said i enjoyed this version the most so far in the series... I said this is still a great game...

If i hate the series then say all these great things about the game... Where does that leave me? Biased? lol... I am in the middle, on the fence and as neutral as it can get atm... I am thinking of playing the past games after this for more in depth, mature view of the past games in the series... Maybe i misjudged them, i believe i was only about 13-18 through the series lol.

EDIT: Had to add there is no beating around the MGO online part... I did not misjudge that, it sucks lol.
 
is there MGO with MGS4? cause I thoguht that was coming seperate from the game :P and I thought MGO Beta had issues.. but I've said before.. Beta's having issues means little to me :P

Edit: Ah, MGS4 does come with MGO, I was confused about that, interesting.. I'll try it later and see it hehe... for now.. game time :D

Theres an online option at the main menu so i'm assuming thats MGO, didn't check it out though. Also on the package it says 1 player (online: 1-16) so i think so.

Also I'm disappointed you can't have Japanese language with english subtitles. Not that the english voice acting is bad, its actually pretty damn good, i just don't like when you don't have the choice.

They couldn't fit it on the disc, since they wasted so much space by not compressing anything.
 
MGS4 is a visual orgy of awesome O_O

I fucking love MGS4. I only just beat the first act but I love it love it love it love it love it love it love it love it love it love it love it love it love it love it love it love it LOVE IT!

HIDEO KOJIMA IS THE GOD OF GAMES CREATORS! Aside from Shigeru Miyamoto ofc.
 
I can't wait to see how MGS4 goes :D (still playing now, just pausing to make snack and comment :P). I really wanna try MGO soon but if it's really meh well :| boo but we'll see.
 
I'd like to see those dumbass 360 fanboys at GT flip when MGS4 surpasses GTAIV XD

How soon should we expect details on how many copies of the game sold anyways?
 
Its nearly impossible that MGS4 will outsell GTA4.
 
ya, MGS4 will not outsell GTA IV lol.. GTA IV appeals to far more gamer types than those of MGS and GTA IV is on two systems where as MGS 4 is only on one :P MGS 4 will sell a lot, I'm sure.. and even sell some PS3s (how many, I'm not sure) but it's not going to pass GTA IV.
