Metal Gear Solid 4 - Official Thread

A. no, I was geniunely curious if 360 or Nintendo games got a perfect score :P I'm honestly surprised MGS4 did.. I really enjoy the MGS series but I don't know of any game that's ever gotten a completely perfect score.

B. Dur, JP reviewers biased toward JP companies :P

C. lol... really? that's sad...

regardless, I agree with Yahtzee's "scores are stupid" mentality.
Funny how so many people say they hate score-based systems ever since his video came out.

JP reviewers seem to give free bonus points to PS3 games, NA reviewers do the same to 360 games. Why? Americans buy NA magazines, Japanese buy JP magazines. More JP own PS3s, more NA own 360s. The reviewers want to eat food and pay their rent. Think 'bout it.

And by the way, a 40/40 Famitsu isn't that easy to get. Only 8 games have done it.

1. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998, Nintendo, for Nintendo 64)
2. Soulcalibur (1999, Namco, for Dreamcast)
3. Vagrant Story (2000, Square Co., Ltd., for PlayStation)
4. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (2003, Nintendo for Nintendo GameCube)
5. Nintendogs (2005, Nintendo, for Nintendo DS)
6. Final Fantasy XII (2006, Square Enix, for PlayStation 2)
7. Super Smash Bros. Brawl (2008, Nintendo, for Wii)
8. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (2008, Konami, for Playstation 3)

No comment about Nintendogs.

Even 39/40 isn't easy to get.

1. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (1991, Nintendo, for Super Famicom)
2. Virtua Fighter 2 (1995, Sega, for Sega Saturn)
3. Ridge Racer Revolution (1995, Namco, for PlayStation)
4. Super Mario 64 (1996, Nintendo, for Nintendo 64)
5. Tekken 3 (1998, Namco, for PlayStation)
6. Cyber Troopers Virtual On Oratorio Tangram (1999, Sega, for Dreamcast)
7. Final Fantasy X (2001, Square Co., Ltd., for PlayStation 2)
8. Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec (2001, Sony Computer Entertainment, for PlayStation 2)
9. Resident Evil (2002, Capcom, for Nintendo GameCube)
10. Dragon Quest VIII (2004, Square Enix, for PlayStation 2)
11. Gran Turismo 4 (2004, Sony Computer Entertainment, for PlayStation 2)
12. Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence (2005, Konami, for PlayStation 2)
13. Dead or Alive 4 (2005, Tecmo, for Xbox 360)
14. Kingdom Hearts II (2006, Square Enix and Buena Vista Games, for PlayStation 2)
15. Ōkami (2006, Capcom, for PlayStation 2)
16. The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (2007, Nintendo, for Nintendo DS)

actually I didn't like it before :P I just thought I was the only one though lol.. still don't really care for em. But hey, whoo whatever works. I always read or watch any review and pay attention to what they say is great and what's wrong and that's usually all I care about.

Ya know, I just replayed through MGS 2 and 3 and I am really confused. I had always assumed that the ending of MGS1 that was the commonly accepted one was the one where Otacon gets saved. The reason it is the commonly accepted ending is because in MGS2, you are with Otacon and you have the invisible cloak thingy, which you get at the end of MGS1 if you get the Otacon ending.

Now this is where I am confused. Why is Meryl in MGS4? If the Otacon ending was in fact the real ending, she should be dead. Also, in Metal Gear Solid 2, Snake makes a joke about his bandana giving him infinite ammo, which if you remember, getting Meryl's ending gave you the bandana that gave you infinite ammo, but it also meant that Otacon stayed at the base while it was being nuked and would not have survived.

Is there something I missed? It seems Otacon and Meryl cannot exist on the same time line, yet there they are.

I've always assumed Otakon got away while Snake saved Meryl and got pussy.

See, that would make sense, but he was all emo saying he needed to stay to be with dead Sniper Wolf and how he wanted to not escape because he created a monster in MetalGearREX and didn't want it to happen again. That and the fact of where the hell is Meryl in MGS2?

She was off training to become a decent character that doesn't get shot like 5 times. And Otakon has always been a pussy. I think during the Snake vs Liquid fight he ran like a bitch and got the fuck out of there.

To answer Lanien's question. The correct ending for MGS1 is the one where Meryl leaves with Snake. This ending has all three characters surviving in the end (Snake, Meryl, Otacon), because the airstrike was cancelled that was suppose to blow up the base. This is said by Roy in the codec you recieve from him right after Liquid dies.

Ok, so I did miss something lol Very weird we hear nothing about Meryl in MGS2 though. You would think she would want to be part of Snake and Otacon's anti-MetalGear group.

I do believe she is briefly mentioned in MGS2. Snake saying that things didn't work out between him and her. Not 100% sure though.

I gotta pay more attention to them damn Codec calls lol Sometimes I just skim through them because some of them last way too long. Especially the ones between Raiden and Rose.

I thought they called off the nuke strike... that's what I remember at the end.. hmm been too long though

I don't think that anything is mentioned about Meryl in MGS2 proper (though there are hints of Snake + Naomi. And possible their baby, which raises some questions) but Meryl does appear in one of the Snake Tales in MGS2: Substance. I haven't played that mission though, so I can't say what all happens there or whether or not it's canon.

[Ninja edit]
Also, I'm pretty sure that Kojima said that the Meryl ending is the real ending back when Substance came out.

real ending, but that doesn't mean that Otacon died :P or didn't meet up with Snake later

Hint for people who visit other gaming forums besides QCDN. GTFO of there now. The game has been leaked by that dumb d. bag from the link I posted below about the UK guy owning MGS4.

Be careful......

I am as of this moment only posting in this forum, because I know QCDN peeps wouldn't do anything like spoiling the game.

I know what happens! :D the world ends with a song and all the character holding hands singing in a circle.. the "Imagine Me And You & You And Me" song :D

Yeah, if anyone ruins the game for me, I will be severely pissed.

I spoiled the ending for myself.
Impressive.
