Metal Gear Solid 4 - Official Thread

See, now you are linking to things that link to Kotaku... lol

Interesting read though ^^

hey, I don't ever check out the new york times :P and I saw it on Kotaku so I linked to it. If anything I check out the BBC site XD

wow seriously? you cant buy any ammo from drebin on extreme? o.O

that just fucked my whole strategy

no, you can buy ammo.

you just cant buy any non-lethal ammo.

so tranqs, v-ring shotgun ammo, etc - unavailable.

however, the solar gun recharges every act and you can 'reload' it by charging it in sunlight. might make things easier.

don't forget that the act 2 vehicle chase and the act 3 bike chase both have unlimited ammo segments (correct me if i'm wrong), so make use of your ammo there while you can

what's this Solar Gun? And just to make sure, in Act 2 and 3 with the chase, shooting the gekkos or the flying things doesn't count as kills right? :P and for the people just use tranq gun?

Solar Gun is the gun you get if you collect all of the Beast dolls (can be gotten in the beauty stage of the boss fight if you kill the beast part non-lethally), and the FROG doll (can be gotten by not killing a single FROG soldier in the Advent Palace/Act1). Its a charge-leveled gun that shoots energy at people which does two things: depletes their stamina rapidly and makes them drop more items. You reload it by standing in sunlight, and Snake will hold the gun up and it will charge.

Spoiler:
Using the Solar Gun on Vamp is laughably easy. One fully charged hit will deplete all of his stamina, allowing you to syringe kill

As for the chase scenes - in Act 2, if you kill the powered suits in the first part with the machine gun, they WILL count as kills. So throw chaff grenades and take cover behind the turret and focus on the zombie PMC soldiers. After a short time, Drebin will just start to drive automatically.

Spoiler:
# World Of Warcraft

Leeroy Jenkins' grave can be seen directly behind Big Boss's. It will come into view when the camera pans around the area before Old Snake puts the gun into his mouth. You can also see it again while Old Snake is carrying Big Boss to The Boss's grave.

best reference in the game, evar

didn't you read? :P I left the game on for a weekend and didn't really play it much XD

interesting news here

I loved this line from it:

Metal Gear Solid, Ms. Alexander said, “has the characters and the narrative, the symbolism and the metaphors, and all of the lore that ties it together,” whereas Halo is popular “not because of any of its peripheral elements or anything else about it, other that you shoot people.”

MGS4 ftw indeed. =)

an hour long radio show where they interview David Hayter :D it's great. The ending has a hilarious line he speaks in Snake's voice.. a line from Metal Gear Awesome :D When he's at the AX I'm gonna see if a friend will get him to say "Damn right I'm gonna hit that!" XD

Edit: Thinking about the game more, my one true complaint.. no not the product placement (That wasn't a big deal imo.. doesn't make me wanna buy the shit and it doesn't matter to me :P it's easily ignored and personally I love the iPod) and it wasn't the "not as sneaky feeling" (Cause really it's your choice to sneak or not and I liked he gave that option, I chose to sneak sorta.. sneak kill :P). Anyways, my one problem.. the BB Unit... they didn't feel.. hmm.. they weren't really a part of the story like bosses in the previous games were. It felt sorta tacked on.. oh I loved the BB Unit, they were crazy awesome but they were barely mentioned in the rest of the game and didn't feel like a part of the story well enough.

the only place i found in the game to have chaff's was when you flashback to classic mgs1 =/ i dk where else to get em

You can find them in act 2 near the start of the level, and you can find them on the helipad in act 4 (non flashback)

The following is from a webcast from Hideo Kojima himself:

Spoiler:
* Snake spent his remaining years traveling. After falling ill in Geneva, he was admitted to the Washington VA hospital before dying quietly in his sleep from acute respiratory failure. According to his wishes, his body was cremated, wiping his genes from the earth. His wake was attended by Colonel Roy Campbell, his daughter, Meryl, his son-in-law, Johnny, and his newborn grandson, David.

* Hal 'Otakon' Emmerich successfully marketed a modified version of the Metal Gear Mk. V as an automated in-home caregiver for the infirm and elderly. He used the profits to establish the Naomi Hunter Memorial Center for Cancer Research. He currently resides in New York City.

* Jack, Rose, and John currently reside in Nagoya, Japan. Jack runs a Kendo dojo for the mechanically augmented. A one-shot manga series dramatizing his actions during the Big Shell Incident have made him a bit of a local celebrity.

* Mei Ling was given recognition for her service during the Battle of Outer Haven and for her service during the recently declassified Shadow Moses Incident. She is currently living on-base in Hawaii, overseeing the construction of the first post-SOP battleship in the US Navy.

* 'Drebin 893' currently resides in Uganda, where he assists the government is landmine removal and the deactivation of the near 7 million AK-47 assault rifles in the country.

* Sunny Gurlukovich made headlines at age 16 when she became the youngest person ever to receive a Doctorate from MIT. Her thesis, which outlines the use of nanomachines in the treatment of SOP Syndrome, was labeled groundbreaking. She lists her current hobbies as robotics, nanotechnology, and cooking. She currently resides in New York City. According to her current boyfriend, her culinary skills have vastly improved.

Kinda sad :( poor Snake. His life was always a hard one.. shame he didn't get a normal one. I'm interested in what he did in his travels. Was it just tourism? Was he continuing to help people? Hmmm

I was kind of hoping to see the reaction on Otacon and Campbell face when Snake showed back up.

I believe in time, they will make cinematic sequences to show each characters epilogue

typical Yahtzee review

i guess he doesn't see the fact that this game is the last game of the saga, so there alot of loose ends to tie up from the previous games, on top of the current story taking place in this one

or maybe his gimick in life is to just bash any game he is asked to review with witty remarks and colorful metaphors while speaking incredibly monotonic, fast and in a snobbish mannerism

Well he is a critic rather than a reviewer, its his job/hobby to get right in and find the crap things about games. However MGS4 has none, it is a perfect game!

It's a shame that no one else can see the flaws in this game.
