Midgardsormr + Quetzalcoatl = New Quetzalcoatl!

Don't forget how much easier it's going to be to low-man/solo zones when the 99 cap is introduced.

I keep omitting that because I would hope that SE wouldn't be that stupid, but they've outdone themselves time and again.

I was thinking of coming back to the game with the new features from Vanafest 2010, but then I saw the new level cap is 99 which turned me right off. The game is balanced as it is, and SE will just create huge amounts of work to balance the new level cap. Are you ready for tons of updates? D:

I doubt they'll even balance it. The new additions sound not only like a ploy to get old players interested again, but to give people "what they want" all at one wack so they don't have to fix anything before FFXIV is released.

From my perspective, the plan seems to be a way of accomplishing a variety of goals, all at once.

First, by raising the level cap, you make it so that small groups of people can handle content that previously required full alliances.

Second, by creating a system by which gear is upgraded substantially, you make all the old gear (now obtainable through small groups) still relevant.

Third, by creating a new set of endgame activities, specifically designed for small groups, and with substantial rewards (theoretically), you ease the pressure towards the activities that many people simply don't have the time to indulge in. (open world HNM camping in particular).

All of these things shift the game to a somewhat more casual alignment, and in theory allow SE to ease the consolidation of servers with what is probably an expectation of a significant exodus to FFXIV when that goes live.

The final theoretical steps, of course, are to drastically shorten respawn times on a wide variety of NMs (punch the kings down to 2-3 hours, for example), instance Dynamis zones (which may never happen, but we'll see), and continue to develop content that requires fewer people to acquire high-end gear.

To add to the off-topic here while still contributing.

I do kinda see the point in raising the level cap.
In all honesty having nearly everything in this game, it's getting damn repetative.
All SE has been doing the last few years is add a few (H)NMs though slightly challenging after killing those a couple of times are hardly a hardly a challenge anymore.
And a few events like Einherjar and Salvage giving the ability to get good gear without the need to camp 3 to 9 hours a day.
But being very honest, there hasn't been anything truly game breaking for at least the last 3 to 4 years.

For the 75 cap there hardly was anything left to add without completely destroying the old gear.
I for one do not look forward to those wow situations.

What SE is basically doing is building a new game on top of the old content, that excites me.
The only thing which doesn't is indeed the grind to 99 and the subs.
Although with the merger and the knowledge that the ultimate cap will be 99 at least the subs won't be a huge problem as I will not be the only one needing to get a few up there. :)

I agree with Raesvelg, & hopefully SE does instance Dynamis to resolve this issue. Give Quetz a chance & we'll do the best to return the favor. if you dont like it here on Quetz you can take your ls to Odin/Bahamut, since they're now open for immigration =P

I'm EU and I understand you're pretty much a desert wasteland with regards to an EU community.

We have an EU community although it may not be a competitive endgame centered community (alot of EU's in NA endgame shells). But whatever it is now it's your EU community + ours so more EU than ever for you. It's hard for me to see your complaint?

Yea with the income of a Midgard's endgame linkshells along with the already crowded dynamis schedules, SE really should think about that whole instanced dynamis thing. If more then one dynamis linskell could go in instead of one linkshell tying up 3hrs of zone time it would be ok. I mean more then one group could go into nyzul, given those are parties instead of alliances but still. SE always does things without thinking, half-ass, but that's SE for ya =/ unfortunately.
I guess well see what happens as time progresses

As a co-leader of a Dynamis LS on Midgard, I can attest to the rampant "zone-jacking" that has occurred in the past on my server. However, with the dwindling population, the problem has been minimal to non-existent as of late.

I've just today signed up on these boards, and requested posting rights in the Dynamis Scheduling forum. I am very happy to be able to actually have some scheduling system to use to work with the other Dynamis LS leaders on Quetz. I can only hope that the other Dyna LS leaders on Midgard also see this as an excellent opportunity to start scheduling runs, and being civil about who is going to do which zone. I'm fully prepared to use this system to find zones that your existing LSes are not doing, so that the addition of my LS to your server will not interfere with your existing shell's runs.

I'd like to thank you for the opportunity to use this website, and also for the warm welcome that some of you are already offering.

I agree. They should instance it.

Anyway, hi =) Hopefully any problems can be worked out before there are headaches. I'm pretty scared about this since I do dyn and limbus; this is asking for it, two servers with two diff ways of doing things coming together like this.

I also hope to blue blinking blazes that CurseTheYagudo, FantasyInsanity, WeSayHurray, ShikgamiWeapon and JingZen aren't taken as LS names. (I got friends in all those shells here and it'd feel WIERD to see a diff name and I bet it'd make some people really upset. Those are all pretty well known socials on Midgard, CTY is as old as the server! And SW is the big SMN ls over here, and I'm a sack in that.)

It's gonna be a mess for CurseTheYagudo as it is. Our shellholder, Linmayu, quit the game a while back. (Don't ask, something RL, had nothing to do with the updates) Someone is gonna get a new LS as it is so we can remake..but I didn't want it to happen like that :( Please don't let it be worse..

If SE were going to instance dynamis they would have done so by now - especially with server merges artificially cranking up the population on worlds. The fact that that wasn't one of the things they announced kind of is the very big sign it's not ever going to happen. (although actually I reckon they'll trumpet that announcement when the final server's down to 99 population "in response to adventurer demand")

And yes I'm incredibly angry about everything that's gone on and I'll freely admit that if I'm still feeling so angry and generally just fed up with the changes to the game when I get back from my break mid-month - I'll be walking - already seen a few people do similar over this.

Midgard's got a very old and quite NA heavy endgame as part of the nature of the fact that lots of the original NA beta players went there on game release, I think it's always historically been slightly more NA top heavy than some other servers. Has some EU endgame and my own LS which is a strange cross over time between the two really... EU time you do tend to run into a few late night very low man JP groups repeatedly running the same dynamis zones week after week (at least on the days we go), but lots of the dynamis shells seem to have folded of late with the lack of players. Sky's either jammed with everyone - or empty - or has a bst stapled at every single set of flamingoes going (which seems to be every time I head up there).

Oh and if anyone sees a blonde mage character with dalmatica, 4/5 HQ crimson and 100 bonecraft - it's a stolen alt of mine.

But nope, I'm not filled with optimism and feelings of cute fluffy bunnies about any of this rubbish SE are inflicting on people and I'm not going to lie and pretend I am because /lazy.

Oh and for the love of god if you're posting your website link around - can you direct it to a bit that works as it's causing a collective outbreak of headscratching on Midgard at the moment!

None of those sound like Quetz names, so you may be in the clear!

I'll be happy to make a shell by that name, and then hold it for ransom when you guys get here muahaha. But seriously, make a mule over here and reserve anything you really want kept, otherwise someone might just do it out of spite, whether on our server or a rival on yours.

off topic: think the increased website traffic will increase the networth of qcdn.org over 4k usd?

/welcome all you Midgardsormr natives! Hope to meet new fun people to dungeon crawl with! :D

This may be a good time to retire Mielikki. I wont be playing long enough to lvl all of her subs to 50. Least all my DD's on Zalt are taken care of, for the most part anyway.

As for the new arrivals this is a chance for a fresh start of sorts. If you want to be well received its all up to you. You may not have a say in whats going on, but neither do we. The situation would be hardly different if we were being shipped to your server, as evident as scheduling doesn't seem to work on your server. Our experience with server transfers has been less then amicable, but to be honest 99% of there are scumbags running from a rep they rightfully earned. We can only go by what rumors we have heard in regards to your server's population. Cesaria, you say that the source of those rumors have since moved on. Sounds like you were in the same receiving boat we were.

As for the players quitting, /farewell. I'm reminded of the ranger "nerf" days when people were quitting cause SE took their precious epeen away. They wanna quit let them, less potential trouble makers. This is a new opportunity for the entire Midgars server. You cane build on it positively, by respecting the rules of your new adopted home, or negatively, which would just confirm the tainted image we've gotten and the server so far. Ball is in your court ladies & gents.

Necronus of Midgard here to put in my 2 cents. Just as a intro, I'm the points keeper of the Dynamis LS "Delevel".

Anyway, my initial opinion is that Midgard might spell the death of your calendar. I'm not wishing the death of it upon you, its just my initial expectation. Midgard has had plenty of internal server drama in the past (non-BG worthy), and many people including members of my own shell are ... well ... kinda jaded? In addition I'd list the following thoughts as to why I made my conclusion:

A) I'm not sure how shells on Quetz are set up, but on Midgard, while there are a few standard "do everything" endgame shells, many of the other shells are single purpose. Thus many of the people in my Ventrilo server alone are in a tangled web if interrelated shells ... dyna shells, limbus shells, einherjar shells, etc. People often have 3-6 pearls each, and its rare that any two people have the exact same set. As such there is a VERY delicate balance of schedules so that any one person doesn't miss an event. One person holding up shell A's event can lead to having to abandon either Shell A mid event or skip/be late to shell B.

B) The jaded part I mentioned above. Just surveying people I know (which is technically a sampling of a dozen shells) all said simple "screw that". I realize its a small sample of people and the people I know by no means represent the server as a whole, but it was at least a small part of my conclusion, but I'll just glaze over this one and move on.

C) At first I was angry you guys weren't being absorbed into our server. But then I put on my 20/20 hindsight goggles and took a good look at how much our population is suffering. I thought to myself "Even if we did want to follow the calendar ... COULD WE?". The current answer is no, but with an asterisk. See, just looking at my Dyna shell and 2 of our "sister" shells in that tangled web of shells I mentioned, we all have attendance woes. My shell would put down 8PM Tuesday and 2PM Saturday as our times, but if you look at this past Saturday, we didn't enter until 3:30 PM. Kinda kills the idea of a calendar huh?

Often, shells like mine and several other I know will gather at the right time, but ocassionally spend 1-2 hours waiting for numbers to get better before entering or cancelling. Occasionally we'll even toss a tell to a sister shell for a joint run, or to call off one shells run and let individual people decide to "tag along" with the other shell.

So anyway, that was my logic as of right now. Obviously the merge can seriously alter the state of the above three points, especially A and C. There might not be a cure for B, but who knows.

I was thinking of coming back to the game with the new features from Vanafest 2010, but then I saw the new level cap is 99 which turned me right off. The game is balanced as it is, and SE will just create huge amounts of work to balance the new level cap. Are you ready for tons of updates? D:

Wait FFXI's level cap is increasing? What? That makes little to no sense.

Heh. Please don't. WeSH even runs a webcomic if you can find it, so it's moderately famous over here.

As it is my name's reserved; a friend of mine was kind enough to create a mule with my name over on your server, and will delete it after the merge. (Good thing too. I'm the ONLY Elizara on any server. I'd really hate to lose my name.)

..some of my friends, including my dyn lead are losing their names. No one's fault, far as I know those names were taken well before this.

Let's hope we can all get along. ^^

This is what i was hopping to see. :)

My first post here is apparently being reviewed so I can't edit it, but I'd like to respond to what Divinus said. He's absolutely right. Zone jacking is long dead, and conflicts are rare and settled by randoms or tells. But my prior post still reflects why I'm not entirely sure the Calendar will survive the merger.

The one thing going for the calendar is everyone is like a weary old man. Everyone has been around so long and drama just ain't cool anymore. It's too much effort and we're all lazy on the whole. Who knows, perhaps Midgard people will avoid using the calendar, but it doesn't mean they won't look at what you guys posted and simply show up at an unclaimed zone. Thus using the calendar without using the calendar. Who knows.

I am lazy and don't want to level up all my jobs I leveled up to balance my char lol. I am lazy! D:
