MMA

they did the same thing with anderson. he only beat leben before he got a shot at franklin. lesnar lost to mir and barely beat hearring imo. lesnar is a mediocore fighter at best right now. when he learns more he will be unstopable. i hope mir takes him out again though. anderson would have won the belt anyways, but he still should have had to have a few more fights before takin it from franklin.

EDIT this is kicamo posting. didnt notice my wife was logged in lol

True. I think it's undeniable that Franklin couldn't hold a candle to Anderson even as a new name in UFC though. That being the main difference.

Lesner just basically overburdened Couture, had he fought Couture with similar stats AT LEAST, it would have been a different story all together. Kimbo just got pwned.

Lesner being mediocre is that much more reason he should have got in line. Kimbo, a backyard bare knuckle scrapper, completely unorthodox, he should have started at the back of the line.

Now Anderson, he has been golden since he first stepped foot on the mat. There's just no denying his capabilities and talent.

EDIT: IMO Anderson will help greatly in setting a higher standard. We won't see many more Lesner/Kimbo/Tim Sylvias anymore. They're going to be wiped off the face of commercial MMA as far as I'm concerned, because they just don't have it in them to stand up to what talent is about to erupt from the trenches.

Why do you guys keep bring up Kimbo? He never had a title shot, and all of his fights were against shitty people in the EXC, and he got his ass beat quick by Seth. What does he have anything to do with Lesnar? Its not like if Kimbo had been put in against Couture he woulda done shit.

Sorry. I did say Kimbo should have started at the BACK of the line lol.

Lesner at least in line, because he had so few match ups before a shot at a title I don't believe it was a fair and clear look into what he could bring to the table. His 'skills' aren't black and white. It was known he has athletic background and he's a powerhouse who manages to maintain speed even considering his mass. Still though, to me, there's a ranking system in place no? For the most part it's followed, ultimately it's Danas call I guess but I think he made a bad one.

I would like to see Lesner defend his belt against a well trained MMA fighter with matched stats. THAT should be interesting. I don't say he'll defend.

But what I'm saying is Kimbo DID basically start at the back. He got in a shitty MMA organization, never had a title shot, and really had no significant wins, and got beat by a dude who couldnt hack it in the UFC. Lesnar on the other hand did get bumped up but also WON. I guess all I'm saying is it may have been early but the guy still won. You can say shit like Randy wasn't in his prime, or brock was bigger than him BLAH BLAH BLAH. Randy still had the belt, Lesnar beat him, end of story. Thats why brock has an advantage, HES FUCKIN HUGE.

I'm interested to know who you think should have had a title shot instead? Yeah sure Mir would have been good for it, but he got his interim belt and will have his shot in the next title fight. Who else? Only other person I could maybe thing of is Cheick Congo but he lost to Heath in 82 who Brock beat. And I think Dana made a good call, bring in a guy a shit ton of people know, he obviously had what it takes, and sure he might not hold onto it for awhile but it sure as hell brought even more attention to the UFC.

One last thing in the TL;DR post, but I also don't think you can really equate Lesnar and Silva both getting quick shots either. Just for the fact that currently theres only like 25 fighters in the Heavyweight division in the ufc, yet in the middle weight division theres like 3x that many.

I considered that. It's an unfortunate fact, but it can change. My hope is that with some of the newer faces merging into the scene that bring talent that far surpasses the current standard a new standard will be set for ALL weight classes, I'm idealistic really though, but I'm allowed to be.

I think Kimbo was allowed in the UFC prematurely. He trained for how long before getting a debut fight? Most UFC newcomers, even the ridiculously terrible quitters we sometimes see have trained for a substancial amount of time longer than Kimbo. Kimbo was practically given the open door due to his new found youtube fame.

Lesner won, I'm not debating that. I think HIS shot was premature, but as it stands now I'm not too sure who I would have given his place to. Couture has a few more fights before he can legally retire his contract so maybe he was looking to rush a defending battle, idk.

brock is the ufcs kimbo. hes a well known name and puts people in the seats cuz they wanna see how he will do. the difference between anderson and brock, brock was 1-1 when he got a shot. anderson was 1-0 but no one has even come close to beating him. brock had trouble with herring. he uses his size while havin very little skill. hes a borderline bully. imo... hes a chump champion till he proves himself.

@Morch, Kimbo was never in the UFC. He was in the EliteXC and fucking sucked. There were several interviews with Dana White where he basically bashed the shit out of Kimbo and said hed never fight in the UFC because hes shit.

@kicamo Idk what youre talkin about man, he dominated the shit out of herring. Just look at their faces at the end of the fight. Brock almost put him away like 15 secs in, and was basically on top of him the whole fight. Yeah it was kind of a sloppy fight, but I wouldn't say it was close.

I still pose the question of who you think should have gotten the title shot over brock. At the time Noguiera had the interim, and mir was set to fight him, and now mir is getting his shot, so who else?

brock rushed herring and then couldnt finish the fight. as far as a title shot, anyone that has had more then 2 fights.

My bad, dude with all the shows, WEC, TUF, UFC, PRIDE I easily mix them up.

Now that you had mentioned it I DO remember seeing interviews with Dana ripping on Kimbo.

Cut me some slack though, I can't fucking remember what colour panties I'm wearing today if you catch my drift.

I already answered you, idk.

It begs the question though, did there HAVE to be a title shot? With people lined up to get their shot soon enough could Brock not been bumped and waited, could the title shot not have waited until a worthy opponent. Yes Yes yes, a worthy opponent, someone who not only has all the right at a shot but the track record, talent and MMA fan base or least of all history lol.

Have I struck a nerve RaidrX lol?

You didn't strike a nerve lol, I just think you guys are bashing on Brock a little much. I can't wait to see him and Mir fight again because I like Mir and wouldnt mind him winning. Be interesting fight for sure.

i think if mir gets in the gym and gets back to the point where he was before, he will beat brock. he took a beating in the first fight but as soon as he seen his chance he took it. i guess i shouldnt be bashing brock, instead i should be bashing dana white. if i was brock i woulda taken the shot too.

Shane Carwin is one dude that I think could be in the running for a title shot. Dudes 10-0 and won pretty much every fight in under 2:00, mostly under 1:00.

Him and Cain Valasquez seem like good potential contenders. Just need to see them tested by some better competition. Carwin is getting a pretty good test against Gonzaga and I think Valasquez is getting matched up with Herring at a later UFC.

Theyre trying to make Koscheck Tito V2. Except i liked tito, and i hate Koscheck he is so damn annoying.

Looked like it was going to be a short night for Carwin, but he stuck it out and got the KO. I was surprised, dude seems to have good power.

Too bad for Jim Miller. I was pulling for him since he was an acquaintance of mine my freshmen year of college at VT since we lived on the same floor. I like his wrestling/bjj game, but it seems he really needs to sharpen up his striking. Damn that Maynard.

was a overall good night of fights. only fight i wasnt happy with was pete sell vs matt brown. the ref should have stopped it way sooner, like when he pulled brown off him the first time.

Yea that fight was ridiculous. I was reading that apparently one of the untelevised fights got stopped while a guy that was totally coherent was pulling guard. They said Yves Lavigne was shaking his head at that ref so he must have started thinking to himself that he didn't want to stop another fight too early...but he instead stopped it way too late.

I also didn't like how they totally made Munoz disappear after he took that headkick. They could have at least said something about him leaving the cage on his own. Or if they did mention it, I missed it.
