Demian Maia v. Anderson Silva

Thoughts? Personally, although id love to see the upset i dont give Maia a chance in hell. I wouldve preferred to see Silva in some sort of super fight or LHW or HW bout, maybe against Couture or something.
 
Couture v. Silva would look a lot like Chuck v. Randy with Silva just using his superior footwork to avoid Couture's takedown attempts and Randy really can't take a shot anymore so I would see him getting dropped early. SIlva has shown in the past that his takedown defense is the weakest part of his game and Maia has some sick takedowns and I feel that if Maia can get it to the ground he can sub Silva.
 
i think randy could take silva down easy...randy does amazing things when people count him out. maia is gonna get knocked out im thinkin...if nate took him out that fast then silva will have no trouble doing the same.
 
Cain is a beast. If JDS wins his fight against gonzaga comin up here, I'd love to see a Cain v. JDS fight for the next in line for the title after Mir/Carwin. Glad W. Silva won tonight too. Woulda liked to see another knock out, but a wins a win for the most part. overall a pretty good UFC, better than 109 for sure.
 
110 was a great card, definitely better than 109 and 108. The Sotiropolous Stevenson fight was really awesome to watch, such great technique and grappling at work. I was really shocked at the Cain Nog fight, i thought itd be a more competitive bout, I feel bad for Nog im not sure what his place is, I dont think he can contend with Lesnar Cain JDS at all, the amount of wars hes been in might be taking its toll. An interesting fight could be Cro Cop v. Nog II. Ryan Bader, apart from some gassing looked good, id like to see him fight another good LHW, Thiago Silva maybe? Perhaps the Loser of Vera/Jones?
 
I was really happy with 110. I was sooooooo happy to see Wand win again, though he fought conservatively. Everytime he opened up to the old Wand though he easily handed Bisping as shown in the last 10 secs. Nog imo is shot, he looks to be atleast 10 years older than his twin. There is only a certain amount of punishment one can handle before you can still compete at the highest levels. I would love to see Cain vs JDS and think it would be a war, hopefully with JDS coming out on top as I see him being the future HW Champ. George put a clinic on Stevenson which I was surprised at and very happy to see. Can't wait until the next few UFC cards because they look equally as sick.
 
I dont think Cain vs JDS will happen until either A) One is the Champion, B) Both lose to the Champion. Heavyweight Division is not that deep and i dont think Joe Silva or DW would pit 2 legitimate contenders against each other, assuming JDS beats GG, theyve both earned a shot.

Yeah I know, I just think they are the two best HW prospects and I think a fight between them would be sick. More of a wish then anything.
 
Stoked for tomorrow night. GSP and Hardy is likely to be a squash match, but I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens with Mir and Carwin. Also the new matchup between Fitch and Saunders could be good and I'm always down for watching Jim Miller.
 
Haven't watched the other fights but god damn, Shane Carwin is the fuckin man. I knew from the first fight I saw that guy he'd be a beast and man is he ever. I cant wait to see him vs brock.
 
Wasnt he supposed to fight brock last november, But it had to be canc'd cause brick got sick or something?
 
Pretty much. Brock had some intestinal problems or something so he was out for a long time, the fight was postponed twice actually, and thats why when Carwin won he was saying it was destiny for them to fight. Don't get me wrong, I like Brock especially since hes from MN, but I think Carwin is a fuckin beast and seems like a pretty cool guy too and honestly I'd like to see him win.

They are scheduled to fight at I believe UFC 116 which will be on July 3rd. I am pretty psyched about that card, not only because that fight should be awesome, but sexiyama is gonna be fighting Wanderlei Silva as well and that should be a sick fight too. To bad its not on July 11th again like UFC 100, a day after I turn 21.
 
Went to UFC 111 Live and it was fucking nuts. Was really happy to see Shane win and can't wait until he beats Brock. Excited for tonight's fight night too, WAR GOMI!
 
Was a terrible event IMO. Renzo v. Hughes was two legends way past their prime, sorta like Couture v. Coleman, but it lasted 3 rounds.


BJ looked like shit and obviously took the fight lightly and he payed for it as we have seen in the past when he feels he isn't being challenged. His cardio looked like shit and Frankie was staying light on his feet the entire fight.

Silva v. Maia was a joke, Silve should have finished it in the first instead of acting like an idiot and cursing at Maia in the right. If hes so bored of the competition step up in weight like hes been talking about. I'm tired of his boring ass fights, his fight basically killed the event for me.

In other news though, Phil Davis's choke was impressive, I expect bright things from that guy.
 
I liked the Munoz v. Grove fight, was a pretty solid come back by Munoz and I dont really like grove, idk why. Other than that though, it was a pretty disappointing card. I think after this fight, I lost any little bit of respect that I had for Silva. Everyone knows hes good, but he was just acting like a douche bag in that fight. They should have given the belt to Maia on the pretense that he was actually trying to win the fight. If you're gonna act like that you dont deserve the belt, at least thats what I think.

Yea I read up on this card, we didn't order it afraid it would disappoint and what do you know..! Judging by Silvas arrogance he displayed in previous fights.. and hearing he's at it again, I hope he ups weight class and eats his words.

I watched the fight at work. The cook i was working with agrees with both of you that Silva was being a douche the entire fight. I mean even the Ref got in his face about it. It was almost as bad as the griffin fight. I'm not denying the guy is good. But where is the class and the respect. When the crowd started booing i had to think if it was cause of the lack of action or the actions of Silva himself.

Exactly.

GSP may get a lot of himms and hawwwws and Coutre.. with the wrestling. But at least these 2 fighters react to the crowd if/when there are obvious complaints. They feel what the crowd wants, they also fight. They do what is expected of them, and they do so with a hell of a lot more class than flare. Silva doesn't have half the showmanship those 2 have.

If he is so out of Maia's reach, he should have finished the fight. Did he honestly think pissing off your fans and giving people bad tastes in their mouths is going to keep you with top earnings?

I'm confused as to what his strategy may be.
 
You know its not good when the president of the UFC it talking about how its the most disappointed hes ever been in the 10 years hes been in the sport, and hes talking about one of his top fighters. Just look at Fedor, hes on the same level as Silva, where hardly anyone can match him, and yet even if you just look at Fedors last 5 fights all but one have ended in the 1st round, and the one that did barley made it into the second.

As far as the fans go, they were definitely booing silva for how he was acting. With the chants of Maia and GSP late in the fight, it was obviousy not one person was happy with how he was fighting. I love too that Dana gave the belt to Ed Soares and told him to put it on Silva and then left. Thats awesome.
