Monk. Bandwagon Job of 2006

If I were to level Monk it would be because they can obliterate anything in their path in uncapped PVP events ^^

Not really. Our bane is the Ninja. Ninjutsu debuffs are killer. If you're out of medical items, you're pretty boned. Ironic, since in the PVE aspect of the game. Monk mobs obliterate most Ninja players. Yet Monk players obliterate both Monk and Ninja mobs.

Aye, most Monk's find it incredibly annoying when a Ninja uses Ninjutsu debuffs on them, I can attest to that. However, probably the best monk PVP goer I've met in my many, many ballista battles was Quun. That guy just didn't give a rats ass. If he had TP, he was using Asuran Fists, shadows or no. At the same time, probably the biggest poor sport in ballista I have ever met was a monk; a Japanese Tarutaru player named Seville. I'll post a picture I took of him spamming me with "{That's Interesting}" when I fired a sleep bolt at him, while playing Warrior in uncapped. I put him to sleep, ran up to him, and one-shot Rampaged the poor bugger. Good times.

Well, Mistra, I also left out the Mamushito +1's. Fuck those things. Those alone are why I hate going against Ninjas in ballista, the debuffs just make it near impossible.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Ninjas debuffs, just thought of their shadows, I really haven't seen that many Ninjas in ballista use their debuffs very often though during a fight. Though I did hear if they hit they're pretty damn strong. I guess it's true :D

You have a good point, those weapons are a pain in the ass, especially due to their obscene process rate versus anything Even Match and below. I recall one instance where I ticked off Cheltz severely using those weapons. The added effect on them processed 6 times in a row, on both katana. A quick Blade: Jin finished him off afterwards. Cheltz was my biggest oponent for a while after that. He would solely come after me for the longest time, until we became part of the same Ballista linkshell. I still stand though, the only Monk I generally try and shy away from is Quun; as I said earlier, the dude just doesn't give a rats ass. I believe he nailed me for over 1200 on an Asuran at one point, a long time ago. Thamu is also a skilled Ballista playing monk.

Still, good times. :)

hander and have a multi hit weapon in offhand. Can you out dmg a warrior? yes you can.Can you out dmg me? maybe.... can you out dmg a decked out warrior with your decked out monk? No because warrior is the ultimate DD if u give it one of the best gear available for the job.It would have the most accuracy on gear given how you equip it.

(deci's parse, not mine)

mnk/war outdamaging a ridill war and another very well equipped war. and dont say i held back ws's when i did more than anyone else. stfu.

edited* guess you can look at the gear i used too. and i was mnk/war not mnk/nin like in the ss (i lose a few str to that, base STR with mnk/war is 75 on elvaan). im also wearing gaiters in the picture and uh, i dont wear that in xp.

...and Neo did that with 0 H2H merits, no black belt, no B.kotes, Cassie instead of Triumph, no Tiphia Sting, no Walahrah Turban... not even a Tiphia Sting.

Monks are Monsters.

B.Kote are a microscopic improvement. Tiphia Sting is slightly less microscopic. Triumph is 1 more STR than Cassie. They're more status items than measurable bonuses.

So the only things he didn't have were really Walahra Turban, Black Belt, Byakko's Haidate, and maxed Hand to Hand merits. So that's an additional 14% damage, 13 accuracy (remove O-hat for Wally, Melee Gaiters for Byakko's), and 16 attack.

In other words... Monks are Monsters +1.

well, i am 2/3 items on black belt. dont really want a tiphia sting (id rather VIT+1 on the fortune egg verse hp-25 and acc/attk+2 and eva-4)

believe it or not, i actually evade a fair amount for a monk with the 3 eva merits i have too.

eh, id rather have 50 hp str+1, vit+1 as opposed to the str+2 in the cassie/triumph case.

turban, im 16/20k on so ill see that soon. yeah, no haidate:( sigh. out of points for that one atm-- but af2 legs are definitely 2nd.

i have melee gaiters, but dont use them. i prefer to stack haste over anything else-- so i wear fuma sune-ate's.. i just had herald gaiters on in the pictures cuz i run around in them for the +movement.

by the way, the reason why i want VIT is this:

(from deci's site)
Weapon Skill fTP @ 100% TP fTP @ 200% TP fTP @ 300% TP # Hits [Hand to Hand]
Asuran Fists 1.00 1.00 1.00 8x STR 10%, VIT 10%

STR and VIT are modifiers for asuran fists... ;) with the same value. besides, it sorta helps when pulling hate too.

Yes modifier helps. However that formula is only for the secondary modifier, which means at the end of the day + 2 STR will help more than +1 str +1 Vit. STR is calculated primarily for your str/vit ratio so it would have a heavier influence than vit.

Bottom line is if you can fill that spot with STR, by all means go for it. (triumph earring + Elvaan RSE ammo)

LIONSHEART!

Where the fuck have you been, man?!

=) i'll make a post on our site explaining my situation.

Miss all the BOLers very much but right now RL >>>>>>>>>>>> FF
but i heard you guys are doing very well lately which is great.

Hopefully I'll be able to come back in september.

neophytal, why not Dune Boots? A 3% increase in your attack speed isn't going to do as much as +60-ish damage every 5 rounds, especially since you have Melee Hose + Kick Attack merits.

And you have Fortune Egg? Come on, if you love VIT, go get a Bibiki Seashell, it's VIT+4 and free. :p

How about Vit15 vs Str5? (Genbu's Kabuto vs Shura zunari kabuto)

VIT is more handy for Dragon Kick and Raging Fists than it is for Asuran. Asuran's stat mods are abyssmal at best. So Shura Kabuto would be the better choice for Asuran. Genbu's is for if you don't have it, really.

And for the info about black belt item rates vs. ridill rate. Almost irrelevant imo, considering not only do you have to claim 3 HNMs as opposed to one, you have to spend that much more time camping. Again, I state. Ridill might be rarer, but Black Belt is harder to get. Rarity doesn't equal Difficulty. If you're relying on NQ's, thats 15%³ chance to get your BB items from those. Even on Kings. 100% off 7-8 day pops. 3 of them. That equals to just slightly higher than the required man hours to get a BB off Kings than is required to get Ridill, considering one ridill enters the game at about 20 days, it takes a theoretical 21-24+ days for a person to obtain a complete set of BB items, assuming you make claim on all 3 kings. KS99 isn't much higher than NQ drop rates, yet are also far more difficult than said NQ Kings.

If the amount of secondary modifier attribute is more than 2 times of the STR you can get in that certain slot, go for the secondary stat but also you have to take into account of how much does the secondary modifier contribute to the formula. 15 VIT should make more of an impact than 5 STR. However seeing it's only 10% secondary mod for asuran fist it means the effect of VIT is kinda of minimal. In this case I'd go for +5 STR.

You can use the same analogy for byakko boxer for blade jin: Blade Jin has 30% STR and 30% DEX for 2nd modifier. In this case DEX plays a much more important role for JIN than VIT for asuran. 15 DEX from byakko would definately do more than +5 STR from shura.

And we come full circle as to why Asuran Fists is a flat out horrible weaponskill. 8x Normal Hits with a slight stat mod boost. Pretty much proven to be unable to critical. Unable to double/triple attack. It's absolutely disgusting at how weak the skill is overall. It's only saving grace is it's immense accuracy.

Endgame, monk really only has 3 weaponskills to choose between to use for damage. Reliable Asuran, Per-hit best damage Dragon Kick, or potentially devistating Raging Fists. Unfortunantly, the latter 2 are a huge gamble.

Black Belt IS way easier to get then Ridill, simply because you can:

1. BUY the items from the LS's that kill them at their camps.
2. Use KS's to kill the KS versions.

I guarantee I could have my Black Belt within a month of hitting 70 if I wanted it bad enough.

Behemoth Tongue and Adamantoise Egg are 2-5M, Wyrm Beard is significantly more (prolly 20M) and harder to get but still much easier to obtain then sitting in a lineup in your LS waiting for your turn to lot Ridill when/if it drops.

Ridill if a LS would even LET you buy it from them would easily cost close to 200M.

Monetary value isn't a reflection of difficulty either, Decidence. Face it. Theres more work involved getting a Black Belt, even if the drops are more common. More HNMs to camp. Previous quests.

And what part of slightly higher chance, harder mobs is escaping peoples grasp when it comes to KS99? They are not a 100% drop from those. They're <30% at best. You'd need nearly 1000 KS to even have a halfway decent shot of collecting all 3 unless you strike some luck.

It's not as difficult to just camp Fafnir, only Fafnir, and nothing but Fafnir than it is to camp all 3. Especially since you cannot screw with .dat files and safely stand in the middle of Valley of Sorrows, spamming provoke and not having to worry about aggro.

I'd say 2-3 complete Black Belts(Not counting straggler items) enter the game at the rate of 1 Ridill, but theres far more work involved. I am NOT saying they're more rare than Ridills, just require much more work.
