Monk Help

no one has mentioned spartans. or are they not socially acceptable. lol
Spartans are good, when I was leveling monk they were over a million, so I opted for the slightly less powerful bone pata's +1, which were around 50k. Now though, Spartans are 80k, so they're a much more affordable option. I'd still only use them after 60 when you get another martial arts trait to balance out the higher delay.

yeah when i first played they were around a mil or so. i had been saving up so i bought. i used them all the way till destroyers. i picked up my spartans at lvl 50 cuz they are at around 80k like you said. they will be sittin in my bazzar till i hit 58.

Warwolf is for chakra only, use potent belt for weapon skills. Those are also only after level 60, before then a life belt is a good option.

I mentioned warwolf belt for mobs that you wouldn't normally need acc on, like EP mobs or something. Otherwise, yeah, potent belt is the best option because of the accuracy.

Very few PLDs during exp grind (not endgame/established PLD usually) seem to grasp this concept....

I've noticed this too, but I will usually ask them to try it. Most I've told to do this have done it, and we had little to no problems afterwards.

Reviving this thread. I have recently just reach MNK 75. Currently I am not sure which body armor i should use when meleeing.
Should it be Kirin Osode, Pln. body or Shura togi?
When WSing, Kirin Osode is it the best choice?

Shura Togi, only take it off for chakra. Asuran mods are pathetic, so Osode barely adds anything; stick with a shura togi if you have one.

than what about headgear for asuran fists? Genbu kabuto or Shura Kabuto or maybe OPTICAL HAT <_<?

Ohat if you lack the accuracy and not always connecting all hits on AF and Shura if accuracy isn't an issue. Most likely Shura would win out though. And lolVIT mods on WS. Only go with Genbu's Kabuto if you don't have the other 2.

It's only lolVIT mods if you suck at math. But yes, Genbu's if accuracy isn't an issue, Optical hat if it is. Shura is the middle ground, but Genbu's is better much for pure damage.

And when is accuracy not an issue unless you are farming?

Well, unless you never use focus, or don't bother to merit your hand to hand skill, or wear crappy gear, then accuracy isn't a big deal most of the time for meriting. Except for thf mamools.

Edit: Or just grab a Pahluwan head piece, 7 accuracy, 5 attack and it's free.

Of course you would want to merit those things to improve your accuracy but that does not mean your accuracy will not suffer when you chose not to wear something like an Ohat or Shuras Kabuto for WS. But like all events in FFXI all things are situational. You need to find the right combination of gear to produce the most damage in each situation. Although I cannot see any gear combo where you would chose Genbu's kabuto over an Ohat or Shuras kabuto for Asuran Fists unless, like I said earlier, you are farming.

So because you don't have the gear combination, it can't work? I don't have a problem with my accuracy, so it can work.

So you actually use a Genbu's kabuto over Shura or Ohat? In what situation is this? Maybe if you settle for sushi everywhere you go it can work.

I use genbu's almost all the time in merit pt's, even in mamool. And unless it was a THF mob, I've never had a problem landing hits. Whenever we did have a THF mob is when I used ohat, of course. h2h 8, faith torque, dbody, sniper x1, adding up to acc+30 (dont use a 2nd acc ring). I've to this day never had a problem landing on a merit mob with genbu's so it usually shouldn't be a problem.

You use attack food or sushi? If you are going for the most damage output you would obviously use attack food. And if you were going for a meat build would you not go with a Shura kabuto or an Ohat for WS?

Wrong -- Cami showed a 10% increase when going from hedgehog pies to sushi on mamools.

Edit: When parsing against retards-r-us you can use attack food and maintain a dominant lead. When partying with an actual merit party, using attack food with dual-weilding or MNK jobs will leave you sorely behind.

Even with hedgehog pie (the only meat I use), I'd have ohat +10, +10 dbody, +10 two rings, +8 potent belt, +8 h2h, +7 faith torque, and +5 food, putting me at +58 accuracy, and this would be weapon skill. Sure, I may be able to land all hits with meat for WS, but MNK shines in dot, and if you're missing, meat won't mean anything. dbody+10, +10 two rings, +8 h2h, +7 faith torque, +5 food = +40 accuracy, which, compared to sushi on mamool, probably wouldn't be enough.

Well I guess it depends on the setup of the merit party and what you are fighting. Mire you can easily go with attack food as long as you have a decent accuracy build. Mamools grab 2xBRD, have one sing Madrigal and go with attack food and a decent accuracy build. Meriting on Birds? No BRD? Grab your accuracy gear. Can you tell I like going with attack food whenever possible lol. But the key to being a good DD is being prepared for all situations. Being able to figure out what food is optimal and what gear to use. There isn't one set build that will outperform all others in every situation no matter what job you are on.

Unfortunately I don't know who Cami is or where this parse can be found. I also play on PS2 so I can't parse anything myself so I'm always interested in seeing other peoples parses. Got a link for it?
