Monk Help

Even Allah considered the stat broken pretty recently, so I would say it's probably still broken, or the increase is such it's not easy to determine (such as agility's effect on reducing enemy critical rate).

Given that I can do two trials every second and a half or so in a merit party, I'd say getting enough trials to get significant data wouldn't be too hard. I'm gonna test it.

Too bad I haven't gotten to the point in my stats class where they tell us how many trials is conclusive >.<

If it does offer a noticeable increase Paluhwan would be worth getting. The Sipahi would still be outclassed however.

You'd want at least 100 swings so that a single percent increase could be shown. More would be better so that you're less likely to have skewed results, either having good luck or bad luck for crits would skew the results, but more trials would reduce the effects of luck. I've parsed higher with an osode on my monk than with a shura togi, because during the hour I tested osode my crit rate was 7% higher; and that's just due to luck.

More information is always better, since it reduces the impact of outliers and weird results. 3-400 rounds would probably be a decent test, and it wouldn't take so long it'd drive you insane.

Pahluwan body would have to be a pretty big increase to beat out the 20 attack of a shura togi, but if it's more than 3% it'd be a good alternative.

I plan on lvling mnk and its still low but when you get your af gloves what would be better for ws.

Boost with af gloves then switch back to o kote or boost with af gloves and ws with them?

Unless you've basically hit the attack cap on the mobs you're fighting (which, unless they're wimpy, you generally won't), 20 attack > 4 STR for WS. Particularly for MNK WS, since the secondary mods for STR are relatively low.

As a general rule, when macroing for WS on any melee job, you typically sacrifice *some* acc gear (enough that you can get away with it and still regularly land most/all the hits on the WS) for STR and secondary mods, while maintaining or increasing your attack (although if you can swap a low attack piece for a high STR piece, go for it).

How much to care about macroing for secondary mods depends, really, on just how strong they are. A 75% mod is definitely worth macroing for, 50% is worth it if you're not sacrificing too much, 30-40% is more to the tune of "if you can get the secondary mods along with other good stuff, cool, if not, don't sweat it", and 10-20% you really shouldn't even be thinking about them because they'll do next to nothing.

so what would a good rageing fists marco look like?
/equip hands temple gloves
/ja "boost" <me>
/equip hands o kote
/ws "rageing fists <t>

does this look accurate and other gear swaps would probably be done in another marco

I've been reading this and have been working like mad to raise gil to afford all this equipment before I attempt to level mnk any higher. I do have a question that's related to this. While maximizing attack, strength, and other goodly DD qualities is great for working in a parties, I tend to venture out into the world alone to explore and (more importantly) to gather loot to sell. Good DD equipment is generally bad for my health in this case because there aren't healers and tanks to keep me alive. It's just me. Is there a good set of equipment I could use (I'm at level 51 right now) that allows me to take hits better while not sacrificing too much in attack power?

You'd probably want to go with a mix of you normal DD gear and anything in the Harness series of armor. Gear that increases your counter rate will help, but I don't know any off-hand at your level. I'd also look into getting a NPC for the Conquest areas (SE won't let you use them anywhere else) and sub Whm (and maybe even Pld, but the mp pool for pld subbed is pretty small) for sneak/invis and like, 3 cures. Not much but better than nothing.

There's not a whole lot at that level, but you could get akido koshita, avenger earrings and cross-counters/retaliators to boost your counter rate. Once you get your AF boots, dodge will be pretty powerful. Later on you can wear a scorpion harness, but there's not going to be a lot of really good tanking gear until later on.

Yeah, not too terribly much at your level, but as you get higher you can keep an eye out for gear with better defense/VIT/percentage damage reduction (for things that are going to hit you), or gear with good evasion (for things you can realistically dodge). Not surprisingly, NIN sub helps with survivability (although of course that only *really* kicks in at 74/37 when you get Ni); also in some solo situations, WHM sub for cures and status cures may be your most useful option as well.

And then, of course, there's the new DNC sub, which gives you TP-based enfeebles and cures (among other things), and tends to make soloing melees rather happy.

well in partys crow/raven helps alot with the -eminity and eva+. crows is like 30k~ a piece and ravens varying from 80k to 200k. with monk not having any great head pieces or legs at that lvl could add -12 eminity and +9 eva by useing crow head and legs.

edit: had wrong eva numbers

If you want +3 accuracy all day round and don't need the -enmity, you could go for fancy specs/vampire mask post 51. Doubt that you would need to do this however.

No, it really doesn't help that much. If you're wearing enough crow/raven gear to actually make a difference, then you're seriously gimping your damage or your tank really sucks. -Enmity is a pointless thing to go for, really, just suck up the hits and hope you get a guard skill up.

True, this. Taking a beating in parties is the biggest reason why my evasion is about ten or so below cap.
