Everyone loves the playstation because of the games, and all of the big winners on playstation used to make games for Nintendo only, but stopped with the expensive and less owned N64; which sounds surprisingly similar to the PS3. With the introduction of the Wii, Nintendo is now the cheapest option and with 4 million consoles at launch(vs lol500k for PS3), it will be very wide spread; so more game companies are going to want to make games for the Wii than the PS3. If most of the gaming companies come back to Nintendo(not even exclusively, just make the games for Wii too), which is looking more and more likely with each press release; while the PS3 might not flop, there's virtually no chance that it'll take the top spot.Pasquale said:I agree, its going to be near impossible to get one at release. I'm not buying one until the price drops or something beyond amazing comes out.
The reason I think the ps3 is going to be the winner longterm is the fact that everyone loves the playstation. When the 360 hits in Japan, its going to tank. The ps3 is going to explode both in Japan and in America. People will get past the bad press and the ridiculous price eventually.
By the time people could afford to buy a PS3 and whenever Sony finally manufactured enough, the 360 and the Wii will already have a tight grip on the market, so people are going to be even less likely to buy a PS3, when they're already having fun on the consoles they bought. It's very difficult for someone to come into an established market and try to dominate it, and that's practically what Sony is doing with their late release and the scarcity of the system.
The PS3 isn't going to explode, because not many people have the spare money to spend $600 or more for just the console, then even more for games and accessories. Maybe when it's price drops to something reasonable then people will start to get it, but the only ones who are going to buy it now are either wealthy or bad with their money and have to have the best technology asap. I'd love to get one, but the only reason I'm not going to get one is the insane price, and no one game is going to change that, because it's still a lot of money.
By the way, the 360 has already tanked in Japan. I heard a few days ago that the gamecube outsold the 360 in 2006 in Japan. Microsoft is pretty much America-only, which is why they'll never take the top spot.
