mystic wonders on the side of my screen

What I am saying is that the drug is harmless to everyone but the user (if you exlude the penelties of law).

Thank you, this is what I've been after the ENTIRE time, however circuitous I have been. My whole big problem is that most people who smoke pot think that its completely harmless to them when its not. I was saying your misleading in saying that its harmless. Whether you used those direct words or not is irrelevant, but that was the impression I got. To be honest, I don't really care if people smoke pot, as long as they acknowledge that its harmful in some way...and also as long as they don't harm other people while high.

gogoFFXI
I requested a schedule at work so I could continue doing dynamis and sky when I got a new job. And I'm sure a few of you pot nay-sayers have done something similiar, maybe not that, but I bet you've put your FF life over your real one on more than one occasion.
My pot 'dependency', or 'addiction' has never even come close to that of what FFXI was, I haven't even smoked in over a week and it's not bothering me. IMO, FFXI is much worse for you(me) than pot.

EDIT: Don't wanna make a new post for this

This is probably my BIGGEST problem with it. I've been saying this exact same thing since I was a little kid, long before I ever started smoking.

The only one that claimed pot was completely harmless was Bigboy when speaking of ingesting pot. I never tried to argue that it does no harm to the user. I will say the harm it does is nominal at best, especially if you smoke cigarettes, because the amount of smoke you get is so small in compared with the amount of tobacco smoke that enters your body.

One thing you still aren't understanding is that marijuana use isn't responsible for people getting killed. The effect of marijuana isn't so strong as to alter judgment beyond reason. The drug does not make you violent, and no matter how much you smoke, you could pass a roadside intoxication test. The only deaths even remotely related to it are those of drug dealers killing each other because it is illegal. If it were legal, that wouldn't be a problem either, therefore I contribute those deaths to the laws, and not marijuana.

I suppose it's the double standard that bothers me most. Either outlaw cigarettes and alcohol or make marijuana (as well as most other drugs, which are no where near as bad for you or anywhere near as addictive) legal.

I would actually see police as people that were there to protect and serve instead of people who just want to put me in jail for no reason. We lock up far more of our citizens than any other country for non-violent victimless crimes. The current laws are a drain on our economy, they destroy lives all the while protecting no one.

Would you honestly feel safer if I was in jail? Do I deserve to be locked up with thieves, killers, rapists and politicians?

The way it is doesn't work, the system is broken and changes need to be made including full legalization of Marijuana for recreational use in your own home. If you can just agree with that sentence, I'll stop posting and leave ya alone.

So I let it sink to the bottom of the page with no one presenting any information through the entire thread that countered anything I said. People disagree with me, but have no reason why.

QFT, doubly so on the bolded part. Morality laws to protect a citizen from himself are fucking idiotic.

(P.S. I don't drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes, or engage in the use of any illegal or fringe drugs.)
Edited for clarity, had an odd feeling someone would think I'm trying to get some kind of loophole.

I think that's the only real issue here. Pot isn't the worst thing in the world, it's on the level of tabacco/alchohol really. Howerver it's foolish to think it's not bad for you.

Alchohol is bad for you
Tabacco is bad for you
Weed is bad for you

There's a good chance I'll end up trying weed at least once at somepoint in my life. So it's not like I think it's anything evil. But the fact is, that signature is a lie.

If I smoke up, start driving, and end up getting myself killed, could we change the number on the sig to one?

In fact this for leagalizing page claim there were 138 pot related deaths, while I'm sure this'll end up being a lowball number (If you're high and do a hit-and-run, never gonna be counted, being illegal, if you develop lung cancer you might lie and say you only smoke tabacco, etc..)

http://www.briancbennett.com/charts/death/01pot-related.htm

Not to mention the categories in that page were:
Mental and behavioural disorders due to use of cannabinoids
Cannabis (derivatives) Found in Body

Which leaves out things such as lung cancer and situations when the person who was high didn't die themseleves, other medical conditions caused by smoking.

Personally I do agree weed should be legalized (or at least make it a fine instead of jail time), people should be free to do what they want, even if it's self distructive, as long as it doesn't endanger others. But even if it was legalized, just as much effort should be spent trying to teach children that it's bad and that they shouldn't do it.

It's not that users think that it's not bad for us, it's just not as bad as things like alcohol, cigarettes, McDonalds™, Driving a car, or Extra Italian Dressing on a Hoagie. Living is bad for you. As a matter of fact, eventually, it's gonna kill ya.

I don't believe it is. Marijuana is the only recreational drug I can think of that can't cause an overdose through recreational use. If you read what I have already posted (not calling anyone lazy, that first one was like 18 pages printed... I made my mom read it) you will see that I there is evidence that mariuana does not cause cancer. As for killing someone while operating a vehicle, I'll get to that.

If I smoke up, start driving, and end up getting myself killed, could we change the number on the sig to one?

Marijuana does not affect a person like alcohol does on any level. If I was going to compare it to something, I would compare it to the first drag I ever took off of a cigarette. People don't wreck cars and kill people because they are under the influence of Nicotine, or Caffine for that matter. Those are both considered psychoactive substances. It doesn't alter your vision or your balance in a way that would be detrimental to something like walking or driving.

In fact this for leagalizing page claim there were 138 pot related deaths, while I'm sure this'll end up being a lowball number (If you're high and do a hit-and-run, never gonna be counted, being illegal, if you develop lung cancer you might lie and say you only smoke tabacco, etc..)

The only deaths I can even think of that would be remotely related to marijuana use would be people that are shot by the police if they do somethin stupid, like resist or run away.

Protip for smokers: The police really do take your cooperation into consideration. Be nice, there job is hard enough as is. Everyone already hates them because they have to arrest people for victimles crimes, like drug use.

Good find. I would argue, much the same as the admin of that site, that if marijuana was a contributing factor in any of those deaths, it would show up on the records more than one or two times. There are a LOT of people that smoke pot.

Brian C Bennett from Davemans link. said:
"The cause-of-death section consists of two parts. Part I is for reporting a chain of events leading directly to death, with the immediate cause of death (the final disease, injury, or complication directly causing death) on line (a) and the underlying cause of death (the disease or injury that initiated the chain of events that led directly and inevitably to death) on the lowest used line. Part II is for reporting all other significant diseases, conditions, or injuries that contributed to death but which did not result in the underlying cause of death given in Part I."

So, in essence, a death could be attributed to marijuana use in this type of scenario: someone gets high, walks in front of a car and thus: "because he got high, he was discombobulated and walked in front of a car. The "immediate" cause of death would be hit by car, while the "underlying" cause of death would be because he got high.

That just makes me want to find out who wrote that death certificate. So I can slap them of course. I wouldn't need to slap them if I was high right now. ><

Which leaves out things such as lung cancer and situations when the person who was high didn't die themseleves, other medical conditions caused by smoking.

Smoking pot apperently does not cause cancer. (first paragraph)

Question

Do you think death is the most important thing when it comes to considering legalizing marijuana?

Death to me isnt really the worst that can happen to a person there's stuff like cancer which is pretty painful and killing a relative of mine atm...

I think people just forget that there are more painful ways to live than there are to die.

Weed like regular cigarrettes cause problems for people or complicate them most of the time.

No. Any smoker should know that what they're doing is bad for them.

When it comes to considering legalization, the only thing to consider is equality. I.E. govern it under similar regulations and restrictions as tobacco and alcohol. Minimum age, warning labels if the dangers are high, controlled sellers and monitored sales statistics, etc.

Govern it with equality and all other points to consider will be included. They really only have to copy their policies and procedures for controlling tobacco, substitute the word "tobacco" with "marijuana", replace medical studies & findings, and throw it out the door. It can be controlled in much the same manner, since the two materials are - in the breakdown of: a harmful product that is smoked and inhaled - ultimately the same.

The reason it isn't that simple is because of the public opinion. Many people are still affected by the Reefer Madness campaign of the... 1930s? Within the next 40 years or so, most of those fogies and their immediate offspring should be dead or dying and the public image of marijuana will be a little more modern. The public may be more open to legalization at that point.

Exactly. It's one thing entirely to inform someone of whatever risks they may be taking, and remind them of potential harm. It's another thing entirely to force someone's hand to protect only that person from something they may not wish to be protected from in the first place.

The double standard just makes things even more outrageous, since in their current state, tobacco and alcohol are more dangerous. Alcohol is far more incapacitating with a risk of overdose, and cigarettes have numerous carcinogenic and addictive additives.

Fuck that, its a 45 billion dollar industry a year by most govermental estimates. Tax that bitch.

Just like they do alcohol and tobacco? = equality

I dunno about the states but they sure as hell tax alcohol and tobacco up here.

This is the second or third time since I joined this site that one of my threads was turned into a drug debate, I think this is the longest one though.

Someone asked where I got the sig - I don't remember, I found it awhile ago:
thetruth.jpg

and chopped it into sig size.
