Next update on EXP

Fire, plain and simple - SE turns people off with huge level gaps.

I'd feel bad too if I had invested all of my time getting my job(s) to 75 and then SE made it easier. But I'd also see why they are doing it after this amount of time.

Sorry if I took you for being even just a little elitist.
It's hard not to when you mention "Now it takes less effort to reach 75, so you can do it easier, but it balances out because it's worth less."

People don't go for that 100k GP goldsmiters apron because it's tough to get to level 68 and gain 100k GP and people everywhere will respect that...You know, because it was hard to get, and actually worth something.
The apron will do what the apron will do, no matter what it's cost.

Old school 75ers can feel they've been robbed or cheated or got the short end of the stick. But I guess what I'm questioning is that you make it sound like the new school 75ers will be "worth less" than the old ones. That they won't have the same expertise. I am only agruing that a bit less XP won't make that difference.
I can't see SE adjusting this so it's a breeze. They will adjust it to the point that you'll obtain 75 and if you haven't grasped XPing and your job's abilities by then, you never will.

...Let's just say it is a breeze though. A person that wants to play their job well will take the time to do that, even still. New 75s = Old 75s, especially if they have the guidance and support of the Old 75s, as opposed to having their spite.

A goal is a goal is a goal.

Is it possible that the change is not going to be that drastic, and that a lot of people are getting upset over nothing?

I mean they said they are going to make it easier, but they did not say HOW easier. It could be that the change is hardly noticable, and it will still be just as gruelling for us newbs to get to 75 as it was for you high lvls.

Just a thought.....

as i said in my last post, typical lvl60 and below response...

i guess this is america, people always want an easy way out.

To expand on wanting an easy way out...Before this news, I was perfectly content getting to 75 the "hard" way. I'm definitely not seeking free handouts. I do admit, I see this as one in a sense, for a "part-timer" like myself. I don't think, though, that this will ruin anything. Especially if higher levels take some time to mentor the youngsters.

Would they stand a chance under these such terrible conditions if you were to write them off?

People that would like to learn, will take some constructive criticisms and see them as opportunity. And assholes will be assholes. We have them now, even under the uber Old school system.

I honestly am not sure if this will prove to be a good decission or a bad decission for SE but I think it was clearly made with money in mind and gameplay was a distant second factor in the decission. I have spent part of the morning doing some research on SE and going through what little financial information is available through Hover's and some other online sources. Sadly, I have been unable to get my hands on a financial report for the company. However, S.E. runs with a fiscal year end in March, so they just posted their fourth quarter results for their fiscal year. They have very clearly recognized they are BLEEDING Market Share. But the company is by no means in trouble they posted huge gains in both sales and profits this last year (2003 to 2004).

Annual Sales:
2002: 187.2 million
2003: 182.5 million
2004: 598.3 million
(...)
Those facts are a little distorted.
Lets see.....
When i bought the game was "Square Soft's FFXI" 2003.
one day SS was going real bad, and needed to fusion with another company, ENIX (top japanese games company) when that happened all started to change on the bussness, SE is not SS, policy is not the same.
FFXI team had to answer to SE and SE is launching new RPGs for playonline on next months.....

neophytal if you're quoting at least quote my post correctly. I probably have played this game long before you have but that doesn't make much difference. Honestly if I really cared about doing God's and whatever I would hit 75 long ago with all the lvl 75's currently in God shells or Dynamis, whatever. I have my own reasons for leveling at my own pace.

I never once said you would be worth less as a player. I said your investment would be worth less.
Just as you expect to log in next to a character who's still level 55, you probably hope that level 55 is still representative of your considerable time investment. No one is saying level 55 makes you a noob or worthless or whatever. It takes a lot of time, specially for casually gamer..

Meh I've been playing since the games release and only level 62, this will just make it easier for me to get to level 75. Good for me. I hate leveling though so it'll just take me 1 week per level instead of 2 weeks. haha.

Honestly everyone in this thread is comming across as elitist in some way. 75 players are bashing lower level players, pretty much calling them noobs with a free ride... and lower level players are bashing higher level players... pretty much calling them nerds with no social life.

What the hell guys? Heaven Forbid the level 75 club be infiltrated by people who take a while to level and HEAVEN forbid people with more time on their hands have some kind of social life outside the game.

SE is doing this to compete with WoW. Theres nothing we can do about it, no matter how much we're at each others throats. If the EXP system becomes too easy and you hate it, quit the damn game.

And some people don't want to get to level 75 to do HMN's and stuff like that. I will NEVER have the time to put into camping HMN's and having JP/NA flame wars so it's not something that interests me. So all you people who are worried about more camping problems can have one less RDM to worry about. That's not why I want 75, I just want it, so I can say I have it. Do Dymanis, get AF2. I never level anyway, so me sitting around in Jueno RPing or helping lower levels... well it's something I do anyway. Oh uncapped Ballista woul be fun... and Zilart missions would be a lot easier 70+... and don't forget Promathia, gotta finsih those too... I got a lot to do yet, but I have to level to get there.

I'm sorry if you 75's feel cheated, but it's going to happen in order to keep not-so-hardcore gamers in the game. I'm with Sabia I don't want to see my MMO go down and whatever they have to do to keep people, let them do it. After all, your level 75 means NOTHING if there is no game to play it on.

Firestreak what you're saying is correct. Hell I bet if you go over to a JP forum simliar to that of qcdn.org they'll say something similiar like how they made the game easier for NA's or EU's ever since they joined. But they still play because it's not much of an impact to what they've already accomplished. Maybe what i'm trying to say is...what's the point in continuing complaining about it when you know you're still going to play? As long as you know what you've accomplished does it really matter what changes come along the way?

/cheer /cry

I don't know which emotion to follow. Understandably, this is a slap in the face to the lvl 75's but great for all those you were hoping could join in with you later for end game content?

What's that? You don't want anyone else to get there quicker because they might f up YOUR game? I'm sorry to say that SE gives about as much of a shit about you as you do every other player. As Arturus said, they're in it for the money.

I AM very sorry to hear you're not being compensated but as another has already stated, it does make it easier for you to level your other jobs now. You haven't been completely screwed... so some play time has been wasted. Big deal...everyone's wasted time in some form or another. It's a game, it's not meant to be perfect or completely fair. Lighten up and stop taking a GAME so seriously; be happy for others. Hell you're already on the top of the "world" what more do you want? More end game content? I'm sure after this, SE will be working on just that since they stand to lose twice as many customers if it isnt expanded by the time the "masses" reach the door.

Gilsellers? They'll always be here. I'm sure SE doesnt mind quite as much as they pretend to. Many may not agree, but I see it this way: They pump items at ridiculous prices (no, not all their fault... -.- ) into the game, they sell the gil they made to other players, it's bought and reused for the same items. As long as they continue to moderate the amount of sales, it seems like prices will continue to rise as some players care less about how much an item is and purchase it anyway, driving the price up yet again. For the rule abiding player, this means more time to farm, camp, whatever it is you do for gil.. and the more time you put into playing...hmmm

Alanon, While Panda responded to you, I don't think she was attacking you personally.

Disclaimer:

I'm not saying ALL level 75 players think this is bad. If ya do, you know who you are. Fire away.

There is ALWAYS going to be a final fantasy 11. ALWAYS. There will be more and less people shifting around, but the game will continue. You know all those old MMORPGs... DAOC, EQ1, Asheron's Call 1... and 2. They're yesterdays news. But guess what? People still play them. The servers are still running. Because MMORPGs are profitiable as hell. Also let's not forget that there are no real competitors for the Japanese players.
This decision is certainly about greed not gameplay, we all agree that, if it helps gameplay or not... but unfortunately, I think they are going to alienate all the players who stuck it out with FF because they DON'T want to go to WoW where it's easy.

As for the whole... if you don't like it... quit, argument. Damn straight. If FF ever becomes such that much accomplishments are made trivial, I'm out of here. But I'm not going to overreact until I know how much they're changing.

And a Edit:

Just to clarify. I'm not mad at anyone here, except Panda, and I don't think you're after free handouts. But I think some of the lower level players are really really really going about this the wrong way by thinking it's a gift to you guys. Any time something gets easier, the reward equally diminishes. I have 4 jobs that stand to benefit from this change, and I have a goal of having lots of 75s so I can switch around practically for end game stuff depending on need.... but, I don't like the idea my Ninja had to use less Shihei than any other 75 Ninja to get there... if you know what I mean.

I've got a simple question for though though Sneakypants.

If Squaresoft decided to them add 25 more levels to make 100 the max level, giving people who DID have time to reach it a new higher goal, would you then be entitled to be able to reach it as well, even it it took 500 huors of leveling?

Entitled? I don't see why not. He purchased the game, broadband connection, and PS2 so he can do whatever the fuck he wants. If he wants to spend the 500 hours to level to 100, I give him mad props for his dedication. :D

Firestreak said:
When I originally started, I had assumed that I would in fact not reach level 75, because i rarely reached max level in any online games before. I'd played many... but never gotten addicted enough to max out. I understood as a casual player you don't usually make max. I really don't understand what's wrong with that.

Your definition of casual gamer is totally different than the next guy buddy. I mean, I feel I'm a casual gamer.. squeezing in play time 2-3 hours a day 3-4 days out of the week. I knew I'd get 75 when I first started because I that was my goal. I was also fortunate to be surrounded by kick ass players and friends who helped me achieve my goal, thanks guys.. you know who you are

Firestreak said:
Do you understand the point I'm trying to make... 75 was a goal that.. not everyone was supposed to achieve.

I don't understand this statement here Fire. Who said not everyone was suppose to achieve this? You've done this multiple times and so have many others. Actually this is my first real MMO and I achieved 75 months ago. Granted, it takes dedication and focus but if a player wants 75 it's not an impossible goal.

This little enhancement will go the way of the TP nerf. People were crying, whining, complaining about how bad everything was going to be, but we all lived and adapted. We have bigger issues to focus on and that's the countless MPK'n, JPversusNA, and Gil Selling bastards out there. People get worked up over such trivial shit sometimes. This enhancement/nerf isn't killing parties or causing server crashes, etc. so everyone relax and stop worrying.

Entitled? I don't see why not. He purchased the game, broadband connection, and PS2 so he can do whatever the fuck he wants. If he wants to spend the 500 hours to level to 100, I give him mad props for his dedication. Very Happy

You're misunderstanding me Jazper. All MMORPGs have goals that are meaningful because not everyone who buys the PS2, hard drive and game are going to be able to achieve. If he wants to spend 500 hours to level 100, yes proprs to him. I'm saying he's not entitled that level 100 be made easy enough that anyone can do it regardless of how much spare time at which they have to do it. Obviously by the fact I've hit 75 almost two times it's a possible feat with the current system. By the fact that there's a huge amount of this board population witih 75s, including you, we all know this is possible.

I'll Edit this little addon: I am not saying Sneakypants is unable to one day reach level 75 in the current system. I'm simply saying, all they're really doing is taking the max level and lowering it. That doesn't really help anyone unless they're happy with the accomplishment of a level 60 as max just the same as a level 75. You're reaching "the max" but that max is less effort. Therefore it's less worth.
Now I've never once heard Sneakypants bitching about the old exp system, so I am NOT saying he's in it for a free ride, or that he was unable to reach 75. I'm just saying... yes, you're not closer to max level, but max level is now not as muich of an accomplishment. Hence... this doesn't really give anyone anything.

EDIT: I don't care anymore, you stuck up high-level crybabies can whaaaa all you want, I'm done here.

As usual Im with Tiya's perspective on this as in "Poor level whores"

But I don't want the change because as much as I don't agree with alot of Firestreak's (the epitome of Level whore) views, I see his point here.

My group did the Promy runs right after the patch that made them much easier, (why people brag about this anymore I don't know lol) we went in and completely pillaged the place and did all 3 no sweat right after the patch. Hell one of our boss fights we were just going to do a practice run expecting to die just to work out a good strategy and we still owned him anyway.

In the back of my mind I felt like I cheated because they made it easier when I really didn't ask for that in the first place.

I hate leveling so much, but I also do not care when I hit 75, so I would rather go the harder route and not feel like I cheated a little (out of our control) to get there....

Well not to stray off topic too much but the Holla boss was rediculously hard. You didn't fight it before. I mean I seriously went and attempted to kill it upwards of about 25 times and failed, and not because our groups were bad at all. It was just one shitty thing that happened after another.

One of the major things that helped out more than anything was the drop rate on the special annemas that occured. THose annemas really make all the difference.

I agree with you, that some things run the risk of being Dumbed down, but on the same note, Some things were honestly fixed, like the Holla boss.

Who is it less of an accomplishment to? You? Take it from my perspective - someone who has not had the time to level two, let alone a, job to 75. When April whatever comes along and the XP tables get reduced, me getting to 75 is exactly the same accomplishment - BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW ANY OTHER WAY. I never had the opportunity to level in the 60s or 70s and see 40+k tnl. But for me, whether I have 10k, 100k, or 80 jillion k to 75, when I see the level up graphic and my first job at 75, it's going to be an accomplishment. For me. Because that's why I play the game; to accomplish the goals I set out to do. Just because you've leveled multiple jobs to 70+ and feel that it's 'not as much of an accomplishment' doesn't tarnish it for me.

Never did Devine Might, but I will tell you that I wasted a good unhealthy amount of money and time on that Holla fucker. About 2.5 mil, and I think abotu 3 days straight worth of playing... It was impossible.

It wasn't impossible, it just took a massive amount of luck...
