I recently leveled drk to 37 to sub for ninja in the event that it was needed. Now fooling around with it and testing the /ja and stun and such I really hated it. I find it hard to believe that /drk is better than /war for holding hate while tanking.
I also was told by a friend whom I would never doubt any information he gave me that nin/drk can stun Kirin. Is this in fact true or is it rumor?

provoke warcry defense bonus berserk > stun souleater and last resort?

Please discuss.

Foo talk to Lucy for more details. I don't think you can stun Kirin, but who knows. (Either way you get the hate) I know Lucy held hate as NIN/DRK completely and cleaner than the PLDs that were up at Kirin. I was impressed.

Vang almost exclusively goes NIN/DRK on events and holds equal or greater amount of hate than NIN/WAR.

He requires RDM and or BRD in the tank party to accomplish this, getting Ballad and Haste. I believe he cycles through the spells: Stun, Sleep, and Bind on an +Enmity gearset in order to generate hate.

It works pretty well with what I can see from my spot in the BLM party.

You will need 2 BRDs and 1 RDM in party.

NIN/DRK needs as much haste gear as possable to get the spells delays down, then with march X 2 and haste spell be able to stun/sleep as much as you can.

You will run out of MP so need refresh and ballad 1 + 2 to do the job of keeping mp up. Also some MP merits work as treat. Also +enmity helps tons to.

I find /BRD is better.

I think Foo is actually looking for an honest response....

Eh, you dont need double refresh, thats silly. It helps, but hardly necessary, especially on Kirin. Stun doesnt ever really land, but it doesnt need to land to get hate. Sleep is also great for hate, as is bind. (I did land bind 3 times in a row once...mpked some people lol)

Basic rule of thumb is, /drk will be better than /war for anything that you are not meleeing for hate.

Glad I'm somewhat accurate in my description when reading Zoo's post. :D

And /brd be best with anything you got 5 people around you hitting the mob.

Get the fuck out of my topic. You still don't make any sense.

There isn't a best sub, they all work equally well situationally.

For /drk, you really need the proper support to make it work correctly. Even moreso than other subs. In my LS we use 1 brd, 1 rdm to support it. As brd I give Ballad/March or Marchx2 generally. The nin rarely loses hate.

I need something clarified because I don't beleive it to be true. In order to generate significant hate from a spell it has to land unresisted. I know a resisted spell will generate some hate but VERY minimal. The reason Nin/drk works is cause Stun is one of those spells that rarely resists even at level 37 skill.

However casting Sleep and Bind seems stupid considering your probably going to get virtually no hate from the resists and burn mp. I know this to be true with Flash on my pld. I don't get any hate if the spell resists really. The hate is caused but the spell not the casting of it.

Am I wrong? Can you generate any kind of holdable emnity with resisted spells?

I don't think its mattered if it's resisted or not.

Never noticed resist and nonresists to determine hate. Best proof of this would be when I kite kirin as nin/drk and hold comparable/better hate than pld/wars. Stun just about never lands on kirin, sleep never lands, and bind randomly lands every now and then. Ive gone plenty of fights where I never landed stun, sleep, bind etc.

The greatness of /drk is where you fight mobs that stun actually DOES land. Not only are you getting awsome hate, but stuns on HNMs is always a good thing, especially when comming from the tanks.

Stun can land on kirin as nin/drk, but don't count on it. Drk and blm main can't land stun without ES or a lucky shot. I tanked a kirin for about 40 minutes as nin/drk, and all stuns were resisted. There is no difference in hate given for resisted and unresisted enfeeblesand stun. The reason nin/drk can hold their own on kirin vs a pld/war is that a pld/war has to keep running out of range on quake and stone V, while a nin has utsu and can run in and get a couple quick spells off while kirin is casting.

Provoke has almost as much hate as Stun, but nothing /war gives even comes close to souleater. Souleater is what puts nin/drk way ahead vs high defense mobs that aren't melee resistant, which is a description for most big HNM's. With enough healing and support I can do 150+ damage every 2 seconds for a minute every 6 minutes on most mobs. You can't even come close to that on /war vs a level 85+ mob.

Bind and Sleep are good hate, Last Resort and Souleater are about half the hate of voke just for using them, not including the extra hate from added damage with them up.

Weapon bash is also a decent chunk of hate. After I blow my TP on a ws I'll swap over to earth staff and pop a weapon bash on the mob, then swap back.

On a random side note, I have an unusually high success rate of binding Proto-Ultima. It's well over 10%, but still makes me laugh every time I stick it.

You don't need double ballad, 5 MP/tick is plenty, haste/refresh/ballad2/march2 is all a nin/drk needs to be effective straight tanking. MP merits are ok, but nin/drk is not for short fights where max MP matters. It doesn't matter if your max MP is 200 or 80 when the fight lasts over 15 minutes, all that matters is how fast you're using MP compared to how fast it's being refreshed.

From my experience Stun is a little less hate than provoke, and Souleater is a ton more than provoke. I haven't tested them or anything, that's just the feel I got from using /war and then /drk.

Yea, bind seems to randomly land more than the others. It actually got to the point where I stopped using bind on Vrtra, because it caused too many problems. Fucking weird, my enfeebling is at like 30 skill ><
