One of FFXI's Last Mysteries

The only use I can think of of is selling them to an NPC for decent amount. The only reason they are rare is so that you don't farm them (cannot hold several)..

Collect all 52 craft them (start by combining every 4 cards in a number, then combine A-7 and 8-K, then those results together), and you have a deck of cards. Trade at a venture dice table to play Blackjack or Windurst Hold'em for gil.

True Mystery: The Door in upper Jeuno, right past the guide stone heading thru town. >.> I SWEAR it wasn't there before, till a year or so ago.

Oh you all wanna play?

...

The shiny "pits" in Xarcarbad (I cannot spell). WHY DOES IT SHINE. What's at the bottom of it ...

That shit crawling around on the ceiling in certain parts of CN. I wouldn't call it a mystery, but I've always wondered wtf they were... my guess is spiders, shitty 2-d animated ones in a massive clusterfuck though..

CN has ceilings?

yea you see bugs on the walls above you>.> There is also grasshoppers in Konshtadt and rolanberry..

O_o Where are there grasshoppers? I've been all through Konshtadt Highlands and I've never seen a grasshopper >_> SHOW ME THE GRASSHOPPERS :dur:

Also, I've never seen a 'wild cardian' even after all this time playing, lol.

Edit: I have seen, however, sharks. Not in Al'Tieu, but in Buburimu Penninsula on one of the beaches. The one going towards Bibiki I think. Just 6 huge sharks spiraling in the water. I saw it last year and I'd never seen them before. I have SS's at home :3

Konshtadt Highlands has an area where there are floating flowers.. A friend showed it to me a while back and I marked the area on my map. Since they saw it and I could clearly see it too, its definately there.. Pretty mysterious if you ask me.. (okay, really just a glitch in programming).

Can't believe you guys ignored Jeska. She gave out the answer.

The Japanese love collecting things, those cards may just be there for something to spend time gathering for fun.
I used to do it when I was a n00b. I'm pretty sure some of you did too.

For those of you going to FanFest I dare you to ask the card question to the dev team and you'll get a similar response.

Or probably something like this...

"We realized that after creating every mob with their many actions and drops (massive amounts of data) that we have hit the "first" PS2 limitation early on so we just left them w/o any purpose. During future updates we just forgot about them." lulz

My opinion:

Not everything in this game has to have a significant reason to exist. I'm sure there are a lot of things SE planned to do but abandoned the project halfway through.

Not really. So far, everything in the game besides this and Ixion Horn have some use in the game whether they be obscure quest items or rarely done synths. There are some unused places, but unused items are extremely rare because they add those items with a purpose in mind and not as a placeholder for future things. You cannot do the same thing with areas because you cannot think that far in advance and things can change so you want to be able to have the ability to add to what's already there.

Yes, there are grasshoppers and butterflies in Rolanberry Fields. When you walk the garden patches, you should see an occasional yellow butterfly flutter by. Crawler's Nest also has spiders or something on the celing, but it's rather lacking in detail so it looks just like some black spots in the relative shape of spiders: circles with lines coming out.

Side note: Anyone ever figure out what the use for 1/12 Size Soldiers were for in FF7? >.>

If you ever look at the textures in Gustaberg there's random smiley faces freaking everywhere. (or i'm just insane)

Wait, has anyone ever seen the face in the mountians in Konch. Highlands? o.o

No, fuck all you guys, the main problem here now is realizing that CN has ceilings. Fuck, I thought it just faded into darkness or something.

Rofl.

Norg Boat [the path leading to it...]

I thought that boat was the pirate boat that randomly ransacks ships between Selbina and Mhaura? . . .

There are a few quests that require the cards of certain cardians to complete. By logical extension, S-E made all of the other ones drop the cards as well since it wouldn't make sense for just the questworthy cards to drop and nothing else. When the game first came out and there weren't wikis and stuff to hold our hand through everything in the game, we didn't know what the cards were for so we kept them and traded them and stuff.

La Theine Plateau, Ecks. In all the crevices around the entrances and exits to Ordelle's Caves.

Spelunker's hat and stumbling sandals is all that I have to say about this "mystery."

No I thought that door in Upper Jeuno didn't use to be there either.

I believe the sharks can appear when you're on the Pur{tab} ferry, or the tour one.
But then again I also walked off that boat once and was walking in the water.
